  • This paper describes a fuzzy-based system for analyzing the stress intensity factors (SIFs) of three-dimensional (3D) cracks. 3D finite element method(FEM) was used to obtain the SIF for subsurface cracks and surface cracks existing in inhomogeneous materials. A geometry model, i.e. a solid containing one or several 3D cracks is defined. Several distributions of local node density are chosen, and then automatically superposed on one another over the geometry model by using the fuzzy theory. Nodes are generated by the bucketing method, and ten-noded quadratic tetrahedral solid elements are generated by the Delaunay triangulation techniques. The singular elements such that the mid-point nodes near crack front are shifted at the quarter-points, and these are automatically placed along the 3D crack front. The complete FE model is generated, and a stress analysis is performed. The SIFs are calculated using the displacement extrapolation method. The results were compared with those surface cracks in homogeneous materials. Also, this system is applied to analyze cladding effect of surface cracks in inhomogeneous materials.

  • With the rapid development of the Internet and the Mobile Internet, social communication based on the network has become a life style for many people. WeChat is an online social platform, for about one billion users, therefore, it is meaningful to study the spreading and evolution mechanism of the rumor on the WeChat social circle. The Rumor was injected into the WeChat social circle by certain individuals, and the communication and the evolution occur among the nodes within the circle; after the refuting-rumor-information injected into the circle, subsequently, the density of four types of nodes, including the Susceptible, the Latent, the Infective, and the Recovery changes, which results in evolving the WeChat social circle system. In the study, the evolution characteristics of the four node types are analyzed, through construction of the evolution equation. The evolution process of the rumor injection and the refuting-rumor-information injection is simulated through the structure of the virtual social network, and the evolution laws of the four states are depicted by figures. The significant results from this study suggest that the spreading and evolving of the rumors are closely related to the nodes degree on the WeChat social circle.

  • In ad hoc networks, many applications use the broadcast service that is elementary operation to support various important functions such as route discovery procedure. This paper presents several adaptive probabilistic broadcast schemes base on local information to alleviate the broadcast storm problem for wireless ad hoc network. Our schemes dynamically determine the rebroadcast probability at each node based on the neighbor information within two-hop span. Simulation results are presented, which show our schemes have a better performance over the deterministic flooding approach.

  • An optimization Program is developed to produce new topologies of plane structures under multiload case. A four-node finite element is used in the response analysis to reduce the computation time and to ultimately achieve practical topology optimization. The bilinear finite element is prone to produce chequer-boarding phenomenon and a simple filtering process is therefore adopted. An artificial material model is employed to represent the structural material and the resizing algorithm based on the optimality criteria is adopted to update the material density parameter during optimization process. With newly developed optimization program, the comparison study has been made between single and multiload cases and its results are described in this paper. From numerical results, it appears that multiload case should be considered to achieve the practical topology optimization.

  • In the near future packet networks should support applications which can not predict their traffic requirements in advance, but still have tight quality of service requirements, e.g., guaranteed bandwidth, jitter, and packet loss. These dynamic characteristics mean that the sources can be made to modify their data transfer rates according to network conditions. Depending on the customer&; needs, network operator can differentiate incoming connections and handle those in the buffers and the interfaces in different ways. In this paper, dynamic QoS-aware scheduling algorithm is presented and investigated in the single node case. The purpose of the algorithm is in addition to fair resource sharing to different types of traffic classes with different priorities ?to maximize revenue of the service provider. It is derived from the linear type of revenue target function, and closed form globally optimal formula is presented. The method is computationally inexpensive, while still producing maximal revenue. Due to the simplicity of the algorithm, it can operate in the highly nonstationary environments. In addition, it is nonparametric and deterministic in the sense that it uses only the information about the number of users and their traffic classes, not about call density functions or duration distributions. Also, Call Admission Control (CAC) mechanism is used by hypothesis testing.

  • Pulmonary aspergillosis presents as the following three different types depending on the immune status of the host: invasive aspergillosis, allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA), and aspergilloma. Aspergilloma develops as a result of an aspergillus growth inside a pre-existing lung cavity. However, endobronchial aspergilloma without a lung parenchymal lesion is quite rare. We encountered a case of endobronchial aspergilloma that developed in a healthy 75 year-old woman that led to necrotizing pneumonia of the right lower lobe. The chief complaints were fever, cough and yellowish sputum. The chest film revealed haziness with cavity-like shadows on the right lower lobe, and the chest CT scan showed endobronchial calcified density in the basal bronchus of the right lower lobe with peribronchial lymph node enlargement. Bronchoscopy revealed an obstruction of the basal orifice of the right lower lobe by blackish stone-like material, and the aspergilloma was confirmed by the bronchoscopic biopsy. The pneumonia improved after bronchoscopic removal of this lesion. We report this case along with a review of the relevant literature.

  • This paper considers the cost minimization issue for sensor network systems where sensor energy is supplied by remote energy sources wirelessly. Assuming symmetric structures of sensor nodes and energy sources, cost minimization problem is formulated, where the cost of sensor networks is represented as a function of sensor node density and energy source coverage. The optimal solution for the problem is provided and simulation results show that the proposal scheme achieves around 19% cost reduction in comparision to a conventional scheme.

  • Mobile peer-to-peer (P2P) systems have recently got in the limelight of the research community that is striving to build efficient and effective mobile content addressable networks. Along this line of research, we propose a new peer-to-peer file sharing protocol suited to mobile ad hoc networks (MANET). The main ingredients of our protocol are network coding and mobility assisted data propagation, i.e., single-hop communication. We argue that network coding in combination with single-hop communication allows P2P file sharing systems in MANET to operate in a more efficient manner and helps the systems to deal with typical MANET issues such as dynamic topology and intermittent connectivity as well as various other issues that have been disregarded in previous MANET P2P researches such as addressing, node/user density, non-cooperativeness, and unreliable channel. Via simulation, we show that our P2P protocol based on network coding and single-hop communication allows shorter file downloading delays compared to an existing MANET P2P protocol.

  • The effect of 1/f noise by the random telegraph signal(RTS) on the phase noise and the jitter of CMOS ring Oscillator is investigated. 10 parallel piece-wise-linear current sources connected to each node model the RTS signals. The In, the power spectral density and the jitter of output of the ring oscillator are simulated as functions of the amplitude and time constant of RTS current source. It is confirmed that the increase of amplitude of RTS is directly related to the increase of the width of phase noise md the value of jitter. The shorter the time constant is, the wider width of FET peak and the larger value of cycle to cycle jitter are.

  • With the development of high-speed railway technologies, train velocities can now reach speeds up to 350 km/h, and higher in the future. In high-speed railway systems (HSRs), loss of communication can result in serious accidents, especially when the train is controlled through wireless communications. For to this reason, operators of Long Term Evolution for Railway (LTE-R) communication systems install eNodeBs (eNBs) with high density to achieve highly reliable communications. However, densely located eNBs can result in unnecessary frequent handovers (HOs) resulting in instability because, during every HO process, there is a period of time in which the communication link is disconnected. To solve this problem, in this paper, an HO scheme based on the maximum cell residence time (CRT) and adaptive time to trigger (aTTT), which are collectively called CaT, is proposed to reduce unnecessary HOs (using CRT estimations) and decrease HO failures by improving the handover command transmission point (HCTP) in LTE-R HSR communications.
