Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have shown potential for cardiac repair following myocardial injury, but this approach is limited by their poor viability after transplantation. To reduce cell loss after transplantation, we introduced the fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2) gene ex vivo before transplantation. The isolated MSCs produced colonies with a fibroblast-like morphology in 2 weeks; over 95% expressed CD71, and 28% expressed the cardiomyocyte-specific transcription factor, Nkx2.5, as well as ${\alpha}$-skeletal actin, Nkx2.5, and GATA4. In hypoxic culture, the FGF-2-transfected MSCs (FGF-2-MSCs) secreted increased levels of FGF-2 and displayed a threefold increase in viability, as well as increased expression of the anti-apoptotic gene, Bcl2, and reduced DNA laddering. They had functional adrenergic receptors, like cardiomyocytes, and exposure to norepinephrine led to phosphorylation of ERK1/2. Viable cells persisted 4 weeks after implantation of $5.0{\times}10^5$ FGF-2-MSCs into infarcted myocardia. Expression of cardiac troponin T (CTn T) and a voltage-gated $Ca^{2+}$ channel (CaV2.1) increased, and new blood vessels formed. These data suggest that genetic modification of MSCs before transplantation could be useful for treating myocardial infarction and end-stage cardiac failure.
The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) has compiled genomic, epigenomic, and proteomic data from more than 10,000 samples derived from 33 types of cancer, aiming to improve our understanding of the molecular basis of cancer development. Availability of these genome-wide information provides an unprecedented opportunity for uncovering new key regulators of signaling pathways or new roles of pre-existing members in pathways. To take advantage of the advancement, it will be necessary to learn systematic approaches that can help to uncover novel genes reflecting genetic alterations, prognosis, or response to treatments. This minireview describes the updated status of TCGA project and explains how to use TCGA data.
Proteomics has recently received intense scientific interest after the completion of the Human Genome Project, because this genome-based high technology allows to search new drug targets or diagnostic markers. Many proteome projects including Human plasma proteome projects (HPPP), Human liver proteome projects (HLPP), Human brain proteome projects (HBPP), and Mouse and Rat Proteome Project (MRPP) have been carried out and proteomic analytical techniques have been developed in second dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE) and LC/MS system. This powerful method has been applied in toxicology producing a new term "Toxicoproteomics". In this review, recent proteome projects, proteomic technologies, and toxicoproteomics will be discussed.

In many project-oriented production systems, e. g., shipyards or large-scale steel products manufacturing, resource loading by an activity is flexible, and the activity duration is a function of resource allocation. For example, if one doubles the size of the crew assigned to perform an activity, it may be feasible to complete the activity in half the duration. Such flexibility has been modeled by Weglarz [13] and by Leachman, Dincerler, and Kim [7[ in extended formulations of the resource-constrained poject scheduling problem. This paper presents a new algorithmic approach to the problem that combines the ideas proposed by the aforementioned authors. The method we propose involves a two-step approach : (1) solve the resource-constrained scheduling problem using a heuristic, and (2) using this schedule as an initial feasible solution, find improved resource allocations by solving a linear programming model. We provide computational results indicating the superiority of this approach to previous methodology for the resource-constrained scheduling problem. Extensions to the model to admit overlap relationship of the activities also are presented.
Recently produced information on post-translational modifications makes it possible to interpret their biological regulation with new insights. Various protein modifications finely tune the cellular functions of each protein. Understanding the relationship between post-translational modifications and functional changes ("post-translatomics") is another enormous project, not unlike the human genome project. Proteomics, combined with separation technology and mass spectrometry, makes it possible to dissect and characterize the individual parts of post-translational modifications and provide a systemic analysis. Systemic analysis of post-translational modifications in various signaling pathways has been applied to illustrate the kinetics of modifications. Availability will advance new technologies that improve sensitivity and peptide coverage. The progress of "post-translatomics", novel analytical technologies that are rapidly emerging, offer a great potential for determining the details of the modification sites.
This study explains ther procedure that should be taken to develp a successful wind park project. It provides a guideline for the activities and studies to be done as a step by step solution. This study follows a chronological flow throughout the whole development Process. This Paper covers technical consideration, assessment of wind energy resource, wind Park siting and energy yield calculation This presented knowledge h3s been mostly gained by the experience from Youngduk wind park project. The further comparison study will be performed between the theoretical prediction and the actual yield of the Youngduk wind park.

The Sea of Okhotsk is the unique area providing the highest methane production rate of the northern hemisphere. The area of focused fluid venting offshore the NE Sakhalin continental slope was investigated during the CHAOS (Hydro-Carbon Hydrate Accumulations in the Okhotsk Sea) expeditions onboard of RV "Akademik Lavrentyev" In 2003, 2005 and 2006. The International Research Project CHAOS (Russia-Korea-Japan) aimed at the study of gas hydrate formation processes associated with the fluid venting in the Sea of Okhotsk. Several new gas hydrate accumulations were discovered during the cruise. Hydrate-associated structures have been named as KOPRI, VNIIOKeangeologia, POI and KIT (the names of cruise participant institutes) Some of hydrate-bearing cores contain big amount of gas hydrates: massive gas hydrate layers (up to 35cm thick) were recovered. The shallowest submarine gas hydrate accumulations in the world (at the depth less then 400m) were discovered during the cruise.

In this paper, we have designed a deployment process system that extract and integrate information related to technology and market opportunities through searching for external environment and internal condition on multi-dimensional space in order to generate new research themes. It is expected that this theme extraction model could be contributed to the maximization of R&D productivity by systemization of the opportunity extraction process for generating research themes in R&D center or laboratory.

Current maintenance costs of the educational facilities have been determined by the years of services according to their foundation year. However, these maintenance costs have not considered maintenance and repairing. Therefore, this study suggests a new method to recalculate the years of services of schools by using the data of maintenance and repairing which is stored in the CAD drawing of the educational facilities. Also, since the data of maintenance and repairing has to be kept only for 5 years, the data is limited for the BTL project which has a maintenance period of 20 years. Thus, this study developed a new model to expand 5 years' data to the period of 20 years. This proposed model is expected to contribute in the maintenance and repairing of the BTL project.

Genomic approach produces massive amount of data within a short time period, New high-throughput automatic sequencers can generate over a million nucleotide sequence information overnight. A typical DNA chip experiment produces tens of thousands expression information, not to mention the tens of megabyte image files, These data must be handled automatically by computer and stored in electronic database, Thus there is a need for systematic approach of data collection, processing, and analysis. DNA sequence information is translated into amino acid sequence and is analyzed for key motif related to its biological and/or biochemical function. Functional genomics will play a significant role in identifying novel drug targets and diagnostic markers for serious diseases. As an enabling technology for functional genomics, bioinformatics is in great need worldwide, In Korea, a new functional genomics project has been recently launched and it focuses on identi☞ing genes associated with cancers prevalent in Korea, namely gastric and hepatic cancers, This involves gene discovery by high throughput sequencing of cancer cDNA libraries, gene expression profiling by DNA microarray and proteomics, and SNP profiling in Korea patient population, Our bioinformatics team will support all these activities by collecting, processing and analyzing these data.
