  • Several reactor system components, such as heat exchange tubes, fuel fins, controlrods, and various instruments are beam-like components. This study presents a simple solution method for calculating the natural frequencies and modes of beams supported by linear and torsional springs and attached concentrated mass and rotational inertia at some intermediate points. For a general multi-span beam, theoretical method is proposed to analyze the exact solution about vibrational characteristics with respect to the nondimensional parameters. And the results obtained using the numerical models are presented and discussed.

  • The natural frequencies and modes of free vibration of specially orthotropic elliptic and circular plates are analysed using the Rayleigh-Ritz method. The assumed functions used are two-dimensional boundary characteristic orthogonal polynomials which are generated using the Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization procedure. The first five natural frequencies are reported here for various values of aspect ratio of the ellipse. Results are given for various boundary conditions at the edges i.e., the boundary may be any of clamped, simply-supported or fret. Numerical results are presented here for several orthotropic material properties. For rectilinear orthotropic circular plates, a few results are available in the existing literature, which are compared with the present results and are found to be in good agreement.

  • Circular plates with holes are extensively used in mechanical components. The existence of a hole in a circular plate results in a significant change in the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the structure. Especially if the hole is located eccentrically, the vibration behavior of these structures is expected to deviate significantly from that of a plate with a concentric hole. In addition, if the plate is in contact with or submerged in fluid, the situation is more complex. Therefore, in this study, an analytical method to determine the modal characteristics of a plate submerged in fluid is developed based on the finite Fourier-Bessel series expansion and Rayleigh-Ritz method and is verified by the finite element analysis using a commercial program. Also, the relationship between parameter variations and vibration modes is investigated. These results can be used as guidance for the modal analysis and damage detection of a circular plate with a hole.

  • This paper presents a modeling method for the vibration analysis of a rotating beam the slenderness ratio of which is relatively small. The smaller the slenderness ratio becomes, the larger the shear and rotary inertia effects become. Such effects become critical for the accurate estimation of the natural frequencies and modeshapes, especially higher frequencies and modes, as the angular speed increases. It is also shown that the effects are important for the accurate estimation of the critical angular speed of the beam.

  • The transfer matrix method is used to determine the dynamic characteristics(natural frequencies and mode shapes) by rotational speed of wind turbine blade. The problems treated on this study is coupled flapwise bending and chordwise bending of pre-twisted nonuniform wind turbine blade. The orthogonality relations that exist between the vibrational modes is derived and the algorithm for determination of the natural vibrational characteristics is suggested.

  • In this study, dynamic characteristics such as natural frequencies, mode shapes and damping ratios of RC frame is determined for different construction stages using Operational Modal Analyses method under ambient vibration. Full scaled, one bay and one story RC frames are selected as an application for different construction stages such as plane, brick in-filled and brick in-filled with plaster. The RC frame is vibrated by natural excitations with small impact effects and the response signals are measured using sensitive accelerometers during ambient vibration tests. Measurement time-frequency span and effective mode number are determined by considering similar studies in literature. Sensitive seismic accelerometers are used to collect signals obtained from the experimental tests. To obtain experimental dynamic characteristics, output-only system identification technique is employed namely; Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition technique in the frequency domain. It is demonstrated that the ambient vibration measurements are enough to identify the most significant modes of RC frames.

  • This paper presents the free vibration analysis of a circular plate with a concentric square hole. The present problem deals with the numerical calculation of the natural frequencies and mode shapes of vibration of the structure by means of Independent Coordinate Coupling Method (ICCM). In this study, the boundary condition is the edge of the square hole is free and the outer circular plate is simply supported. Due to the geometric abnormality, this analysis does not permit an exact solution. Since the ICCM employs coordinate systems corresponding to each domain independently, the kinetic and potential energy expressions necessary for the Rayleigh-Ritz method can be easily obtained. Lastly, the kinematic relation is imposed. In this way, the eigenvalue problem can be easily set up. The numerical results show the efficacy of the ICCM and changes in natural frequencies and modes due to the square hole size.

  • The electrical reliability of the power generation and distribution system of Floating Liquefied Natural Gas vessels has been analyzed according to the operating modes using Electrical Transient Analysis Program in this paper. Electricity is used for the topside processes, cargo pumps for off-loading, thrusters for heading control and marine equipment. It is very important to improve the safety, efficiency, and stability of the electrical power system for successful operation. The voltage variation of the high and the low voltage bus shall be within the primitive limitation range at normal operation loads both in steady state and in the transient state. The power system was simulated and compared with class rule for design verification.

  • In this paper, we analyse and present electro-mechanical dynamic characteristics of a micro-machined vibrating silicon ring gyroscope which can measure angular velocities about three orthogonal axes. The ring gyroscope has a ring connected to the gyroscope main body by support-ligaments which are arranged with cyclic symmetry. The natural modes of its vibration can be distinguished into the in-plane motion and the out-of-plane motion which are coupled by the gyro-effect due to the notation of the gyroscope main body. The motions of the ring are electro-statically derived, sensed and balanced by electrodes. The equations of motion are formulated. The scheme of angular velocities sensing by force-to-rebalance method is presented. The dynamic characteristics of a ring gyroscope are calculated and compared.

  • Damping may change the response characteristics of nonlinear oscillations due to the parametric excitation of a thin cantilever beam. When the natural frequencies of the first bending and torsional modes are of the same order of magnitude, we can observe the one-to-one combination resonance in the perturbation analysis depending on the characteristic parameters. The nonlinear behavior about the combination resonance reveals a chaotic motion depending on the natural frequencies and damping ratio. We can analyze the chaotic dynamics by using the eigenvalue analysis of the perturbed components. In this paper, we derived the equations for autonomous system and solved them to obtain the characteristic equation. The stability analysis was carried out by examining the eigenvalues. Numerical integration gave the physical behavior of each mode for given parameters.
