A Study On The Wearable Embedded System Platform (입을 수 있는 내장형 시스템 플랫품에 관한 연구)

  • Personal general purpose computer(PC) has been evolved from desktop to portable mobile device such as tablet PC and PDA. Technology innovation on semiconductor have made it possible to package a reasonably Powerful Processor and memory subsystem with advanced input/output devices. At last these subsystems are miniaturized into wearable system. Wearable computer has recently gained attention as the post PC in the ubiquitous environment. Wearable computing becomes more and more feasible and receives growing attention throughout industry and the consumer marketplaces. This paper proposed and developed WPS that has multimedia features and network features as a wearable embedded platform. We explain the form, overall architecture, functions and user applications of this WPS. This paper also discusses the form of next generation computer platform with intuitive user interfaces and well designed applications in the future.

Implementation of Optimizing Compiler for Bus-based VLIW Processors (버스기반의 VLIW형 프로세서를 위한 최적화 컴파일러 구현)

  • Modern microprocessors exploit instruction-level parallel processing to increase the performance. Especially VLIW processors supported by the parallelizing compiler are used more and more in specific applications such as high-end DSP and graphic processing. Bus-based VLIW architecture was proposed for these specific applications and it was designed to reduce the overhead of forwarding unit and the instruction width. In this paper, a optimizing scheduling compiler developed for the proposed bus-based VLIW processor is introduced. First, the method to model interconnections between buses and resource usage patterns is described. Then, on the basis of the modeling, machine-dependent optimization techniques such as bus-to-register promotion, copy coalescing and operand substitution were implemented. Optimization techniques for general-purpose VLIW microprocessors such as selective scheduling and enhanced pipelining scheduling(EPS) were also implemented. The experiment result shows about 20% performance gain for multimedia application benchmarks.

  • To privide multimedia mobile communication services for the users in scattered locations, the application ATM cells efficiently in wireless communications, it is effective to the use TDMA method. However, it is necessary to have methods to compensate the CDV(cell delay variation) caused by the difference between TDMA-ATM and cell stream multiplexing of the users. This paper optimizes the cell control time(Tc) when VBR traffic inputs have MMPP by applying CDV characteristics of time stamp method, which has the most advantages among compensation methods of CDV. This paper suggests a cell stream multiplex method employing time stamp techniques to reduce CDV for wireless suggest method shows that CDV distribution and cell stream multiples rangd can be controlled to 1.2${\times}$Tc which reduced over the VBR service in the TDMA-WATM transmission. This paper also presents evaluation of the suggested architecture obtained simulation.

  • BcN is a high-quality broadband network for multimedia services integrating telecommunication, broadcasting, and Internet seamlessly at anywhere, anytime, and using any device. BcN is Particularly vulnerable to intrusion because it merges various traditional networks, wired, wireless and data networks. Because of this, one of the most important aspects in BcN is security in terms of reliability. So, in this paper, we suggest the sharing mechanism of security data among various service networks on the BcN. This distributed, hierarchical architecture enables BcN to be robust of attacks and failures, controls data traffic going in and out the backbone core through IP edge routers integrated with IDRS. Our proposed anomaly detection scheme on IDRS for BcN service also improves detection rate compared to the previous conventional approaches.

  • The routing protocols designed for wired networks can hardly be used for mobile ad-hoc networks due to limited bandwidth of wireless transmission and unpredictable topological change. Recently, several routing protocols for mobile ad-hoc networks have been proposed. However, when these protocols are applied to support real time services like multimedia transmission, they still have problems in ad-hoe networks, where the topology changes drastically. In this paper, we propose a new route selection algorithm which selects the most reliable rouse that is impervious to route failures by topological changes by mobile hosts. For reliable route selection, the concept of virtual zone (stable lone and caution zone) is proposed. The lone is located in a mobile node's transmission range and determined by mobile node's mobility information received by Global Positioning System (GPS). The proposed algorithm is applied to the route discovery procedure of the existing on-demand routing protocol, AODV, and evaluated by simulation in various traffic conditions and mobility patterns.

Fast Stereoscopic 3D Broadcasting System using x264 and GPU (x264와 GPU를 이용한 고속 양안식 3차원 방송 시스템)

  • Since the stereoscopic 3-dimensional (3D) video that provides users with a realistic multimedia service requires twice as much data as 2-dimensional (2D) video, it is difficult to construct the fast system. In this paper, we propose a fast stereoscopic 3D broadcasting system based on the depth information. Before the transmission, we encode the input 2D+depth video using x264, an open source H.264/AVC fast encoder to reduce the size of the data. At the receiver, we decode the transmitted bitstream in real time using a compute unified device architecture (CUDA) video decoder API on NVIDIA graphics processing unit (GPU). Then, we apply a fast view synthesis method that generates the virtual view using GPU. The proposed system can display the output video in both 2DTV and 3DTV. From the experiment, we verified that the proposed system can service the stereoscopic 3D contents in 24 frames per second at most.

  • SIP-based tightly coupled conference, which has a centrally located conference server for controlling and management, can be classified several models according to location of focus and mixer. These are centralized server model, endpoint server model, media server component model and distributed mixing model. However each model has its strength and weakness. In this paper, we propose and implement a SIP-based effective hybrid-type conference model which decreases amount of SIP signaling messages, lowers load of server media mixer, and can be easily expandable to large scale conference. In this model, when the number of participants exceeds a pre-defined limit, the conference server selects some participants which posses specific functions and let them share functions of notifications of conference state event package and media mixing. When each participant subscribes conference state event package to the server, it can indicates its possession of such functions by a specific header message. The server stores the indication to the conference information database, and later uses it to select participants for load sharing. The performance of our proposed model is evaluated by experiments.

  • The techniques of 3d image processing have broadly used in the areas including movies, games, performances, exhibitions. In addition, increasing demands for practical uses have gradually extended to the areas of architecture, medicine, nuclear power plant. However, dominant techniques for 3d image processing seem to depend on multi-camera in which two stereo images are merged into one image. Also the pipeline has limitations to provide real-time 3d viewer in ubiquitous computing. It is not able to be applicable onto most general screens as well. In addition, the techniques can be utilized for the real-time 3d game play without a particular monitor or convertor. Hence, the research presented here is to aim at developing an efficient real-time 3d viewer using only mono camera which do not need post processing for editing as well.

A Fast Coeff_token Decoding Method for Efficient Implimentation of H.264/AVC CAVLC Decoder (효율적인 H.264/AVC CAVLC 복호화기 구현을 위한 고속 Coeff_token 복원 방식)

  • In this paper, we propose a fast coeff_token decoding method based on the re-constructed VLCT. Since the conventional decoding method is still based on large memory accesses, it is not suitable for the multimedia services such as PMP, PMB, DVH-H where fast decoding and low power consumption are required. Based on the analysis for the codeword structure, new structure of the codeword and the corresponding memory architecture are developed in this paper. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves memory access saving from 10% to 57%, compared to the conventional decoding method. This meant that the issues of tow power consumption and high speed decoding can be resolved without video-quality and coding efficiency degradation.

Vertical Handover Framework for Maritime Multi-band Networks (해상 멀티대역 네트워크를 위한 수직 핸드오버 프레임워크 설계)

  • It is necessary for maritime multi-band networks, which provide ships with diverse and seamless multimedia services, to perform vertical handover. As IEEE 802.21 WG has standardized vertical handover technologies for terrestrial wireless networks that do not consider VHF, HF, satellite networks, they cannot be directly applied to maritime multi-band networks. In this paper, the vertical handover framework for use in maritime mutlti-band networks is proposed, which includes the logical architecture, the communication reference model, re-defined handover primitives, and the handover process. The proposed vertical handover for maritime multi-band network can be applied in the ocean alone, as well as to the heterogeneous wireless networks which embrace both terrestrial and maritime networks.
