  • In this paper, we obtain the general solution and the stability of the multi-dimensional Jensen's functional equation $$2f(\frac{x_1+y_1}{2},\;\cdots,\;\frac{x_n+y_n}{2})=f(x_1,\;\cdots,\;x_n)+f(y_1,\;\cdots,\;y_n)$$. The function f given by $f(x_1,\;\cdots,\;x_n)=a_1x_1+{\cdots}+a_nx_n+b$ is a solution of the above functional equation.

  • This paper presents an useful technique for assessing the volumetric error in multi_axis machine tools using the kinematic double ball bar and 3 dimensional spherical contouring. The developed system proposes the 3 dimensional spherical contour for the error analysis. The developed system input the measured radial data, analysing the volumetric errors such as positional, strightness, angle, and squareness errors, etc. The developed system has been tested in a practical machine tool, and showed high

  • This paper describes the numerical solution to the hyperbolic system of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations. First, by pointing out the approximations involved, the deal MHD equations are presented. Next, the MHD waves as well as the associated shocks and discontinuities, are presented. Then, based on the hyperbolicity of the ideal MHD equations, the application of upwind schemes, which have been developed for hydrodynamics, is discussed to solve the equations numerically. As an definite example, one and multi-dimensional codes based on the Total Variation Diminishing scheme are presented. The treatment in the multi-dimensional code, which maintains ${\nabla}{\cdot}$B = 0, is described. Through tests, the robustness of the upwind schemes for MHDs is demonstrated.

  • Among the multi-dimensional query types, ranking query is needed if we want the object one by one until we satisfy for the result. In multi-dimensional indexing structures like R-tree or its variants, not many methods are introduced in this area. In this paper, we introduce new ranking query processing algorithm which use the filtering mechanism in the R-tree variants.

  • For fast capacitance computation, a simple mesh refinement technique on MLFMA(Multi-Level Fast Multipole Algorithm) is proposed The triangular meshes are refined mainly in the area which has heavy charge density. The technique is applied to the capacitance extraction of three dimensional conductors. The results show good convergence with comparable accuracy. An adaptive technique concerned with MLFMA is useful to reduce computation time and the number of elements without additional computational efforts in large three dimensional problems.

  • As a fuzzy counterpart of stochastic calculus, fuzzy calculus including Liu integral and Liu formula were introduced. In order to deal with the problems with several fuzzy dynamic factors, Liu process, Liu integral and Liu formula are extended to the case of multi-dimensional in this paper.

  • The objective of this paper is to present a new method for the multi-dimensional Knapsack problem. Toyoda method and Loulou and Michaelides method are well known for this problem. The new method introduces a new penalty factor for fast convergence and a branching technique for accurate solutions. The method is tested at IBM370 and shows that the method is slower than Toyoda method, but more accurate than other two methods.

  • Limitations of the simple single degree of freedom vibration isolation theory in real applications are discussed and a theory of multi-dimensional vibration/noise isolation by power approach is introduced. Illustrations of the application to compressor of an air-conditioner are presented together with problems caused by approximations. Then possible sources of distortions in the vibration power estimation are looked into and some relevant research topics are suggested.
