  • This study investigated hypothesized relationships between three personality traits, as defined by PEN model (Psychoticism, Extraversion and Neuroticism), and individual media dependency. The basic idea of the study was that individuals' goals are related to active media use, and the goals will be different based on differences in individuals' personality types. In addition, this study attempted to find whether there are gender difference in constructing media dependency relations with the media. The study was conducted online and the total number of participants was 337 (158 male and 179 female). Correlation analyses indicated no relationship between the extraversion and any of the IMD media use categories. Lower levels of psychoticism were related to a greater likelihood of utilizing the media in an effort to obtain self understanding and having fun more than higher levels of psychoticism. Individuals with higher levels of neuroticism were significantly more likely to depend on the media for achieving self understanding than those with lower levels of neuroticism. When the variable of participant gender was controlled for, there were different patterns of the relationships between personality types and IMD goals. This study showed that to varying degrees certain personality types are related to the goals individuals seek to fulfill with the media use. The implications of the study were discussed.

  • This study empirically analyzed the effect of media literacy on the formation of the smart divide, which is a multi-faceted digital divide that occurs in the context of the use of smart devices. As a result, most of the factors of media literacy affect the establishment of social relations and social network through the use of smart devices, which, in turn, leads to the expansion of the range of informational and social activities. In addition, media literacy has a significant effect on the competence to evaluate the value of information acquired through the use of smart devices. Based on these results, there can be social disparity between those who have secured media literacy and those who do not from the perspective of informational and social benefits through the use of smart devices, which can function as a mechanism to generate the smart divide.

  • This study tries to test time reallocation hypothesis proposed by Lee(2005) that claims the time use pattern as a whole has changed as new media is introduced-in this case, internet-in our daily lift. It has been pointed out that researches, confined to study whether time use for traditional media is displaced by a new media, have such a limitation as 'media isolationism' and resulted in incoherent conclusions. In order to verify time reallocation hypothesis, which explains the influence of internet use on daily activities with broad perspectives, this research employed two different methods. First, this study analyzed the differences of time use patterns of daily activities and media use behaviors between internet users and non-users by using t-test. Second, logistic regression was used to confirm that the difference of time use pattern between internet users and non-users in many daily activities. The results show that time use pattern for daily activities has reorganized In the most of the age groups. Especially, in the young age groups, time reallocation by internet appeared more obvious than the equivalent old age groups.

  • As both a digital camera and a digital camcorder are popularized in recent years, UCC created by general users is also popularized. Unfortunately, according to that, the lack of privacy is also increasing more and more. The UCC is saved on the recordable media(Media) like DVD and deposited personally as well as distributed through Internet portal service. If you use Internet portal service to put up your contents, you can partially prevent the violation of privacy using security technologies such as authentication and illegal copy protection offered by internet portal service providers. Media also has technologies to control illegal copy. However, it is difficult to protect your privacy if your Media having personal contents is stolen or lost. Therefore, it is necessary to develope an additional security mechanism to guarantee privacy protection when you use Media. In this paper, we describe AACS framework for Media Security and propose improved AACS framework to control the access to personal contents saved on Media.
