This study examined the effects of perfectionism and cognitive-emotion regulation strategies on the test anxiety. The participants in this study were 423(227 boys, 196 girls) 6th graders recruited from four elementary schools in Seoul, Korea. The participants completed the Test Anxiety Inventory-Korea(Kim, 1991), the Child and Adolescent Perfectionism Scale(CAPS; Flett at al, 2000), and the Cognitive-Emotion Regulation Questionnaire(CERQ; Garnefski, 2001). The results of this study were as follows. First, self-oriented perfectionism and socially prescribed perfectionism were both positively associated with test anxiety. Additionally, the children who used more adaptive cognitive-emotion regulation strategies reported lower test anxiety, whereas the children who used more maladaptive cognitive-emotion regulation strategies reported higher test anxiety. Secondly, there was an interactional effect between self-oriented perfectionism and maladaptive cognitive-emotion regulation strategies on test anxiety. Lastly, socially prescribed perfectionism and cognitive-emotion regulation strategies had a significant effect on children's test anxiety. However, there were no interactional effects observed between socially prescribed perfectionism and cognitive-emotion regulation strategies on test anxiety.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation between male adolescent friendship jealousy and maladaptive emotion regulation strategies and aggression. The subjects were 204 middle school second graders. The main findings of the study were as follows, 1) There was a significant correlation between friendship jealousy and all emotion types. 2) The type of friendship jealousy was significantly different according to the maladaptive emotion regulation strategies. 3) The type of friendship jealousy was significantly different according to relational aggression. 4) The relational aggression was affected by blaming-others strategies.
The purpose of this study was to verify the mediating effect of adaptive/maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies in the relation between perceived spouse's covert narcissism and marital satisfaction. For this purpose, 300 adults who were married in Seoul and Gyeonggi province were subjected to covert narcissism, marital satisfaction, and cognitive emotion regulation strategy scale and analyzed using the SPSS 23.0 program. The results of the study was followed. First, perceived spouse's covert narcissism showed a significant negative correlation with marital satisfaction and adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategy, whereas it showed a significant positive correlation with maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategy. The marital satisfaction showed a significant positive correlation with adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategy, but a significant negative correlation with maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategy. Second, adaptive/maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies partially mediated the effects of perceived spouse's covert narcissism of on marital satisfaction. Based on these results, the implications and limitations of this study and suggestions for future research were discussed.
Current study was conducted to examine the mediating effect of maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies and negative affect on the relationship between perceived stress and smartphone addiction of adults and to explore suggestions for counseling adults with smartphone addiction symptoms. Three hundred adults(146 males, 154 females) were administered perceived stress scale, maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategy scale, negative affect scale, and smartphone addiction scale. The main results are summarized as follows: First, perceived stress had positive influence on smartphone addiction. Second, negative affect showed mediating effect on the relationship between perceived stress and smartphone addiction. Third, maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies did not show mediating effect on the relationship between perceived stress and smartphone addiction. Forth, maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies and negative affect showed double mediating effect on the relationship between perceived stress and smartphone addiction. Based on the above results, it was suggested to include stress management and relief of negative affect through modification of maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies in the treatment program for adults at high risk of smartphone addiction.
The study examined the relationship between other-dependent narcissism and road rage experience, and whether the relationship was mediated by maladaptive emotion regulation strategies. In addition, the study investigated whether the experience of road rage differed by gender, and the gender difference was mediated by maladaptive emotion regulation strategies. A total of 209 drivers including 107 males and 102 females completed an online survey composed of Two Dimension Narcissism Scale, Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, and experience of road rage. The main results are as follows: first, blaming others and catastrophizing factors of maladaptive emotion regulation strategies mediated the relationship between other-dependent narcissism and road rage experience. Second, male participants had more experience of road rage than female participants, which was mediated by blaming others factor of maladaptive emotion regulation strategies. Finally, implications and limitations of this study were discussed.
This study examined the effects of maternal parenting, children's self-esteem and emotion regulation strategy on emotion regulation. Data were collected from 493 5th and 6th graders. The results were as follows: Firstly, maternal authoritarian and permissive parenting directly affected children's maladaptive emotion regulation, while maternal affectionate and permissive parenting directly affected children's adaptive emotion regulation. Secondly, children's selfesteem directly affected both their maladaptive and adaptive emotion regulation, while also acting as a mediator between maternal parenting and children's maladaptive and adaptive emotion regulation. Children's cognitive reappraiser strategy positively affected adaptive emotion regulation, but emotion suppressive strategy negatively affected adaptive emotion regulation. These emotion regulation strategies played a mediating role between maternal parenting or children's self-esteem and adaptive emotion regulation.
Objective : Emotional state and emotion regulation strategies are considered to be important factors influencing the pattern and severity of somatic pain. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between cognitive emotional regulation strategies and somatic pain in patients with depression and/or anxiety disorders. Methods : A total of 140 outpatients, diagnosed with depression and/or anxiety disorders according to DSM-IV-TR, were evaluated using the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ), and the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) for somatic pain. Pearson correlations and independent t-tests were performed to analyze the relationship between somatic pain, the severity of depression and/or anxiety and cognitive emotion regulation strategies. Results : The severity of pain was significantly correlated with depressive symptoms, but not with anxiety. Patients with somatic pain tend to use maladaptive cognitive emotion regulating strategies more frequently, especially rumination and catastrophizing. Conclusion : These findings suggest that somatic pain correlates with maladaptive cognitive emotional regulating strategies. Interventions which modulate these non-productive strategies, especially rumination and catastrophizing, would be a new approach for managing patients with depressive and/or anxiety disorders who are suffering from somatic pain.

This study examined the cognitive emotion regulation strategies and professional quality of life to identify factors affecting the professional quality of life in hospital nurses. The participants were 176 staff nurses working at a university hospital in Seoul. Data were collected using a structured online questionnaire from March 3 to 16, 2020. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 25.0. The cognitive emotion regulation strategies of hospital nurses were identified as factors affecting the professional quality of life. Adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategy (β=.501, p<.001) had significant effects on the participants' compassion satisfaction, and the explanatory power was 24.8%. The variables affecting burnout were adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategy (β=-.435, p<.001), maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategy (β=.427, p<.001), and educational level (β=.188, p=.046), and the explanatory power was 36.8%. In addition, the maladaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategy (β=.502, p<.001) had significant effects on secondary traumatic stress of the participants, and the explanatory power was 24.4%. Based on this, it is necessary to develop programs to improve the professional quality of life of hospital nurses, focusing on acquiring adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies and using less maladaptive strategies.
Loss experience can bring more negative impact to the person, if experienced in a younger period. This study examined how self-esteem mediates the effect of emotional expression and maladaptive emotion regulation strategies regarding one's loss during adolescence among college students on depression. The data of 380 college students entails what kind of loss was experienced, how the level of self-esteem mediated the effect of emotional expression and maladaptive emotion regulation strategy after loss experience on depression; and it was analyzed with SPSS 21.0 and Amos 21.0. The results showed that emotional expression about loss experiences was negatively correlated with depression (${\beta}=-.180$, p<.01), and maladaptive emotion regulation strategies showed a positive correlation with depression (${\beta}=.266$, p<.001). The emotional expression of loss experiences decreased the level of depression by increasing the level of self - esteem, and maladaptive emotion regulation strategy of loss experience increased depression level by lowering self-esteem level. Therefore, it is conceivable to assume that the more people articulate on various emotional experiences after their loss and think positively about themselves, and the less they criticize for themselves, the less likely they are to experience depression while maintaining high self-esteem.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the correlations among emotional perception clarity, emotion regulation, family relationship, non-suicidal self-injury, and depression, and to determine associated factors of non-suicidal self-injury and depression for senior elementary school students. Methods: Data were collected from 150 early adolescences in K region, Korea. A self-report questionnaire consisted of Trait Meta-Mood Scale, Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire, Family Relationship Assessment Scale, Functional Assessment of Self-Mutilation, and Children's Depression Inventory. The data were analyzed using t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, logistic regression, and multiple regression analysis. Results: Non-suicidal self-injury and depression were positively associated with maladaptive emotion regulation strategy and family conflict, but negatively related to emotional perception clarity and family support. Adaptive emotion regulation strategy and family togetherness were only significantly correlated with depression. In logistic regression analysis, significant predictors of non-suicidal self-injury were emotional perception clarity, maladaptive emotion regulation strategy, and family support. Multiple regression analysis found that significant factors of depression were adaptive and maladaptive emotion regulation strategies, which explained 38.0% of the variance. Conclusion: Our study findings suggest that targeted intervention to reinforce the adaptive emotion regulation strategy and family relationship may prevent non-suicidal self-injury, and depression for senior elementary school students.
