Being digitalized, the music can be easily purchased and delivered to the users. However, there is still some difficulty to find the music which fits to someone's taste using traditional music information search based on musician, genre, tittle, album title and so on. In order to reduce the difficulty, the contents-based or the emotion-based music retrieval has been proposed and developed. In this paper, we propose new method to determine the importance of MPEG-7 low-level audio descriptors which are multi-dimensional vectors for the emotion-based music retrieval. We measured the mutual similarities of musics which represent a pair of emotions expressed by opposite meaning in terms of each multi-dimensional descriptor. Then rough approximation, and inter- and intra similarity ratio from the similarity relation are used for determining the importance of a descriptor, respectively. The set of weights based on the importance decides the aggregated similarity measure, by which emotion-based music retrieval can be achieved. The proposed method shows better result than previous method in terms of the average number of satisfactory musics in the experiment emotion-based retrieval based on content-based search.

The purpose of this study is to increase the development possibility of K-pop music by analyzing K-pop music and analyzing the use of world music in it. As a research method, we will first look at the world music elements Puerto Rico's reggaeton, Jamaica's toasting, and the melody of Indian music. After that, we analyze two songs, Hyo-yeon's and Hyun-A & Dawn's , with rhythm and melody elements to find out the utilization of World Music. As a result of the study, it was found that it rhythmically showed the type of Dembow rhythm derived from Puerto Rico's reggaeton, and melody followed the form of Jamaican toasting and the melody of Arabic music. This study is meaningful in presenting the possibility of development and various directions of K-pop in the future by analyzing the use of world music used in K-pop music. Through the convergence of various world music and K-pop, I hope that K-pop music will become a culture that is supported by a wider public.

In the 21th century, world citizens have more chances to meet and interact with people from different cultural or ethnic backgrounds than ever before. It is therefore inevitable that multiculturalism has become one of the integral part of music education. Educators in every field should make conscious efforts to provide opportunities and experiences for students so that they can adequately cope with these culturally diverse encounters. This study is to grasp the current state of multicultural education in the teacher education program in Korea and America. Also it is aimed to figure out the current multicultural music course offerings available for undergraduate music education majors at the selected 10 American Universities. It is expected that this study may suggest an idea of multicultural-world music education in teacher education.

Currently the mobile web service is growing with a tremendous speed and mobile contents are spreading extensively. However, it is hard to search what the user wants because of some limitations of cellular phones. And the music is the most popular content, but many users experience frustrations to search their desired music. To solve these problems, this research proposes a hybrid recommendation system, MOBICORS-music (MOBIle COntents Recommender System for Music). Basically it follows the procedure of Collaborative Filtering (CF) system, but it uses Contents-Based (CB) data representation for neighborhood formation and recommendation of new music. Based on this data representation, MOBICORS-music solves the new item ramp-up problem and results better performance than existing CF systems. The procedure of MOBICORS-music is explained step by step with an illustrative example.

To make ones life meaningful is one of human's most valuable goal. Nevertheless, for cancer patients who are in the last phase of their lives obtaining this goal may be threatened by physical, psychological, and social difficulties. Music therapy ran be utilized to effectively fill in these physical, psychological, and social needs. In the form of a creative art, music therapy can be effective in easing the pain and tension as well as assisting the patient to discover meanings of life through psychological comfort. Further, music is itself a verbal/non-verbal communication tool and thus connects the patients with their families with understanding and sympathy. This study aims to examine the need and role of music therapy in hospice.

This aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the music appreciation teaching-learning method on the musical ability of young children. The music appreciation activities were developed firstly in consideration of the 4 steps of the learning cycle (recognition, exploration, inquiry, application). One group was then taught music appreciation, taking into account the learning cycle. The results were then compared with another comparative group in terms of musical ability. The results indicated that the musical ability sum of the treatment groups improved more than the comparative group. More specifically, the treatment group for four-year-olds was seen to have improved significantly more than the comparative group in terms of musical ability. These results indicate that this music appreciation teaching-learning method has a number of positive effects upon young children`s musical ability. Therefore, it is suggested that kindergarten teachers conduct instruction with an appropriate accompanying learning cycle as part of the teaching-learning method when it comes to improving the musical ability of young children.

This paper proposes a music generation technique that automatically generates trot music using a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) model composed of a Recurrent Neural Network (RNN). The proposed method uses a method of creating a chord as a skeleton of the music, creating a melody and bass in stages based on the chord progression made, and attaching it to the corresponding chord to complete the structured piece. Also, a new chorus chord progression is created from the verse chord progression by applying the characteristics of a trot song that repeats the structure divided into an individual section, such as intro, verse, and chorus. And it extends the length of the created trot. The quality of the generated music was specified using subjective evaluation and objective evaluation methods. It was confirmed that the generated music has similar characteristics to the existing trot.

This study aimed to investigate the use of music and imagery (MI) as a method for promoting mindfulness. A total of 11 music therapy interns participated in an MI group over 8 weeks. Statements from participants during the program were transcribed and analyzed using the method of modified grounded theory. The results showed that the participants' statements fell into three categories: awareness, acceptance, and distancing. For each category, subcategories were identified. For the category of awareness, the subcategories were emotion, sensation, and thoughts. For the acceptance category, the subcategories were facing and broadening viewpoints. For the distancing category, the subcategories were dissociation from emotions. Each subcategory was further analyzed. The results showed that the participants' experiences were similar to one another in terms of type but differed in terms of dimension varied. These results support the use of MI for increasing mindfulness and reducing burnout in music therapy interns. Further studies are recommended to investigate the factors for the experience of mindfulness induced by MI processes.

Providing natural and efficient access to the fast growing multimedia information is a critical aspect for content-based information system. Query by humming system allows the user to find a song by humming part of the tune form music database. Conventional music information retrieval systems use a high precision pitch extraction method. However, it is very difficult to extract true pitch perfectly. So, In this paper, we propose to use YIN parameter with applying the reliability to reduce the pitch extraction errors. And we describes developed music information retrieval method based on a query by humming system which uses reliable feature extraction. Developed system is based on a continuous dynamic programming algorithm with features including pitch, duration and energy along with their confidence measures. The experiment showed that the proposed method could reduce the errors of the top-10 7.2% and the top-1 9.1% compared with the cepsturm based multiple pitch candidate. The overall retrieval system achieved 92.8% correct retrieval in the top-10 rank list on a database of 155 songs.
