  • Denote by + the set of probability measures supported on ℝ+. Suppose V is the variance function of the Cauchy-Stieltjes Kernel (CSK) family -() generated by a non degenerate probability measure ∈ +. We determine the formula for variance function under boolean multiplicative convolution power. This formula is used to identify the relation between variance functions under the map ${\nu}{\mapsto}{\mathbb{M}}_t({\nu})=({\nu}^{{\boxtimes}(t+1)})^{{\uplus}{\frac{1}{t+1}}}$ from + onto itself.

  • For $A,B{\in}M_2(\mathbb{C})$, let the Jordan product be AB + BA and G(A) the eigenvalue inclusion set, the Gershgorin set of A. Characterization is obtained for maps ${\phi}:M_2(\mathbb{C}){\rightarrow}M_2(\mathbb{C})$ satisfying $$G[{\phi}(A){\phi}(B)+{\phi}(B){\phi}(A)]=G(AB+BA)$$ for all matrices A and B. In fact, it is shown that such a map has the form ${\phi}(A)={\pm}(PD)A(PD)^{-1}$, where P is a permutation matrix and D is a unitary diagonal matrix in $M_2(\mathbb{C})$.

  • In this study, tests of brain waves were carried out to investigate the driver's physiological characteristics by the change of the headlight. The participants were 20 men in their 20s and twenty-three different conditions in combinations of waveform of light, voltage, and alteration time were used. The measurement of the brain waves was performed by internationally standardized 10-20 method using LXE3232-RF. The results were analyzed by Power Spectrum Analysis using alpha-, and beta-wave and by the analysis of different brain domains using Brain wave Map. The results were as follows. 1. From the results of the Brain wave Map analysis, it was suggested that A waveform increases mental stress and B waveform affects mental and visual stress. The longer the stimulation time, the more stress level was detected. 2 The voltage alteration time of B waveform should be kept less than 1500msec, and the voltage should not fall below 11.5V.

  • Pulse boiling, the unsteady periodic boiling phenomenon appearing in the evaporator of thermosyphons was investigated by many researchers. In the present study investigations were conducted to examine the evolution of flow patterns at the evaporator, and changes in thermodynamic state that each of liquid pool and vapor experiences through 1 cycle of pulse boiling process. For wall and liquid pool the degree of superheat for the onset of nucleation was examined. It revealed that the degree of superheat increased with the increase of pulse period, reaching to 16.5 deg.C and 23 deg.C for liquid pool and evaporator wall respectively at .tau.=80 sec. The data on flow patterns obtained through series of operation tests were plotted in the coordinates of heat flux and vapor pressure to get a regime map. Further this map could be used to figure out the conditions of pulse boiling for a thermosyphon.

  • Three isoforms of pig PDE4B were cloned and classified as two forms: PDE4B1 and PDE4B3, which contain UCR1 and UCR2; and PDE4B2, which contains only UCR2. The amino acid sequences of each isoform showed good conservation in human and rat. PDE4B2 is expressed in a wide range of tissues, but PDE4B1 and PDE4B3 are not. Using an informative SNP for the Iberian x Landrace intercross detected from intron 12, a linkage map was constructed. The location of PDE4B was estimated at 123.6 cM outside of the QTL-CI (124-128 cM) for IMF. However, the QTL-CI for IMF was reconfirmed with high significance, and its position was narrowed down to an interval of 4 cM (the region defined by markers PDE4B and SW1881). Using radiation hybrid mapping, LEPR, LEPROT, DNAJC6, AK3L1 and AK3L2 were selected as positional and/or functional candidates related to the QTL.

  • In the space $C_1(X)$ of real-valued continuous functions with $L_1-norm$, every bounded set has a relative Chebyshev center in a finite-dimensional subspace S. Moreover, the set function $F\rightarrowZ_S(F)$ corresponding to F the set of its relative Chebyshev centers, in continuous on the space B[$C_1(X)$(X)] of nonempty bounded subsets of $C_1(X)$ (X) with the Hausdorff metric. In particular, every bounded set has a relative Chebyshev center in the closed convex set S(F) of S and the set function $F\rightarrowZ_S(F)$(F) is continuous on B[$C_1(X)$ (X)] with a condition that the sets S(.) are equal.

  • Let R be a ring and $D:R^n{\longrightarrow}R$ be n-additive mapping. A map $d:R{\longrightarrow}R$ is said to be the trace of D if $d(x)=D(x,x,{\ldots}x)$ for all $x{\in}R$. Suppose that ${\alpha},{\beta}$ are endomorphisms of R. For any $a,b{\in}R$, let < a, b > $_{({\alpha},{\beta})}=a{\alpha}(b)+{\beta}(b)a$. In the present paper under certain suitable torsion restrictions it is shown that D = 0 if R satisfies either < d(x), $x^m$ > $_{({\alpha},{\beta})}=0$, for all $x{\in}R$ or ${\ll}$ d(x), x > $_{({\alpha},{\beta})}$, $x^m$ > $_{({\alpha},{\beta})}=0$, for all $x{\in}R$. Further, if < d(x), x > ${\in}Z(R)$, the center of R, for all $x{\in}R$ or < d(x)x - xd(x), x >= 0, for all $x{\in}R$, then it is proved that d is commuting on R. Some more related results are also obtained for additive mapping on R.

  • Complex Grassmann manifolds $G_{n,k}$ are a generalization of complex projective spaces and have many important features some of which are captured by the $Pl{\ddot{u}}cker$ embedding $f:G_{n,k}{\rightarrow}{\mathbb{C}}P^{N-1}$ where $N=\(^n_k\)$. The problem of existence of cross sections of fibrations can be studied using the Gottlieb group. In a more generalized context one can use the relative evaluation subgroup of a map to describe the cohomology of smooth fiber bundles with fiber the (complex) Grassmann manifold $G_{n,k}$. Our interest lies in making use of techniques of rational homotopy theory to address problems and questions involving applications of Gottlieb groups in general. In this paper, we construct the Sullivan minimal model of the (complex) Grassmann manifold $G_{n,k}$ for $2{\leq}k<n$, and we compute the rational evaluation subgroup of the embedding $f:G_{n,k}{\rightarrow}{\mathbb{C}}P^{N-1}$. We show that, for the Sullivan model ${\phi}:A{\rightarrow}B$, where A and B are the Sullivan minimal models of ${\mathbb{C}}P^{N-1}$ and $G_{n,k}$ respectively, the evaluation subgroup $G_n(A,B;{\phi})$ of ${\phi}$ is generated by a single element and the relative evaluation subgroup $G^{rel}_n(A,B;{\phi})$ is zero. The triviality of the relative evaluation subgroup has its application in studying fibrations with fibre the (complex) Grassmann manifold.

  • Dry-cured pork neck samples were stored at $10^{\circ}C$ for 90 days under vacuum packaging (VP) or modified atmosphere packaging (MAP; 25% $CO_2$+75% $N_2$) conditions. The pH, moisture, water activity, total aerobic bacteria, and Enterobacteriaceae counts of dry-cured pork neck products with MAP were significantly lower than those with VP (p<0.05) after 90 days of storage. However, CIE $b^*$ and 2-thiobarbituric acid reacted substance (TBARS) values of the pork product with MAP were significantly higher (p<0.05) than those with VP. Total aerobic bacterial counts and Enterobacteriaceae counts of samples with MAP were lower than those with VP after 30 days of storage. Sensory results indicated that aroma, flavor and tenderness scores of the samples with both VP and MAP decreased during storage and the scores after >60 days of storage were lower than those at Day 1. In conclusion, despite presenting higher lipid oxidation, the samples stored in packages containing 25% $CO_2$ for 90 days at $10^{\circ}C$ have lower bacterial counts than vacuum-packed samples. Therefore, further studies should be performed on the packaging of dry-cured meat at adjusted concentrations of $CO_2$.
