The purpose of this study was to research the recognition of Korean Dental Technicians in Busan region about retitle of the name of 'Dental Technician'(DT), then to figure out the reality of retitle of the name(DT), so to provide data for whole country survey and to drive of the retitle of DT by Korea Dental Technicians Association. For these purpose, 250 subjects were sampled out of dental technicians in Busan, and the survey was performed with self-administered questionnaire. Out of all collected questionnaires, 192 pieces(76.8%) were addressed for this study. 1) Their desires on changing of the name(DT), 57.4%(74/129) was agreed. 2) If they could change the name(DT), they hope 3 main new names and the others, Dental Lab Art Technician(39.2%), Certified Dental Technician(23.0%), Dental Prosthetic Technician(23.0%), the others(14.8%).
The purpose of this study is comprehension for relationships between job stress and mental health for dental technicians in performing their duties. and this study can make use of opportunity of accumulation of data on dental technician's health care and work environment in future. Job stress for dental technicians served in general hospital dental laboratory were more highly effected than in local dental laboratory. and this result was statistically reliable. There were no meaningful differences in mental health between dental technician in dental laboratory in dental climic dental laboratory and commercial dental laboratory. and this result was not statistically reliable. The analysis of this study could be used by preliminary data to further research of relationships between job stress and mental health for dental technicians in the future. This study was made progress partially under limited members of dental technician in Seoul. so future studies are suggested that the more advanced total figure study for whole dental technicians in Korea.

Purpose: This study was aimed to know the perception about Certified Dental Technician system of students majoring in dental laboratory technology in Korea. Methods: A survey was conducted for four months from August through November 2011 with questionnaires. The responses from 1148 students majoring in dental laboratory technology in Korea were analyzed with SPSS 12.0 program, and frequency analysis and chi square test were implemented. Results: Total students who responded to the questionnaire were 1148 (100%). The population characteristic of this survey is that 691 (60.2%) are male. The respondents believed that the job skill could be expanded by implementing the system (85.6%). Also, they responded that they would be willing to acquire the Certified Dental Technician qualifications in the future (95.5%). Conclusion: Students majoring in dental laboratory technology in Korea believed that the execution of the system of Certified Dental Technician would expand the dental technology industry.

There is no single or simple answer for effective communication between laboratory technician and clinical dentist. Love-hate could be used to describe the relationship between dentists and their labs. Great lab work can make a dentists life much easier and can result in getting many referrals. However, if the lab work is not up to par and/or late, it can add stress and agony to a dentists practice. Also the opposition is right. If the preparations are calibrated, the impressions clear, and the bite registrations accurate, most labs can do their work reasonably well. Unfortunately, many cases received by labs are barely adequate, especially when it comes to reading margins, which are frequently created by the imagination of the person trimming the dies. In other words, both dentists and lab technicians need to be able to understand how each party operates so that solutions to problems can be found. Effective communication with the laboratory is critical if any degree of success is desired.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the improvement measure of dental technician practical examination. Methods: A survey was performed on 111 dental technicians who were self-written questionnaire. The results were analyzed by SPSS 12.0. The collected data was analyzed by frequency and chi-square test. Results: Questions most necessary work tools with the articulator was the highest with 55.9%, Electric wax carver(16.2%), heating clear(14.4%), CAD/CAM program(9.0%) was in the order. The need for additional practical test in response to actions included maxillary and mandibular comments occlusal work that you have to wax up the highest rate of 63.8%. Items most in need of improvement was strengthen of clinically oriented(48.0%), separation of written and practical(14.6%), control the degree of difficulty(11.4%) were the next order. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, the current dental technician did not show major problems in the practical test. However, clinicians should be strengthened mainly. To do this, the use of the articulator is essential.
Purpose: This study aims to make suggestions for the implementation of the job-based dental technician practical exam. Methods: The duties of dental technicians and the recent trends in the dental technician field were defined and identified, respectively, to achieve the purpose of the current study. The practical test system of domestic and foreign national tests was comparatively analyzed to seek improvements. Additionally, the direction of the practical test to be taken in the future was investigated through a public hearing of domestic experts. Results: As a result of this study, the job site of dental technicians was recently found to be undergoing many changes, and it can be observed that related laws and the work site have already changed. Comparison of overseas test systems showed that Korea was limited to a rather small evaluation range; in general, the scope of the evaluation of the practical tests in foreign countries was widely conducted. In the results of the public hearing, opinions exist that the evaluation range of the practical test was expanded and that new subjects were needed, but the opinion on the existence of practical difficulties was mainly mentioned. Conclusion: The evaluation range of the current practical examination subjects should be expanded and the evaluation of digital dental engineering subjects should be added to proceed with the job-based practical examination. However, it seems that efforts should be made gradually through various efforts in the future due to practical difficulties.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the image and the awareness of dental laboratory technicians in health allied college students. Methods: The subject of this research are 431 health-related major students who are selected by convenience sampling from Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Chungcheong-do, Jeolla-do and Gyeongsang-do. After a survey was conducted, the answer sheets from 401 respondents were analyzed except for 30 incomplete ones. The collected data is statistically analyzed by SPSS(Statistical Packages for Social Science 12.0. SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). Results: The findings of the study were as follows: As a result of general awareness about dental laboratory technicians, the health allied college students knew 83.0% about dental laboratory technician as a job. Respondents showed high recognition about dental laboratory technician as a job($3.62{\pm}0.31$), which showed that the health allied college students took a favorable view of dental laboratory in general. There were significant difference in dental laboratory technician image with age, gender(P<.05). Conclusion: It is required to develop programs such as proactive public relations or campaign via mass media that could enhance the public recognition about dental laboratory technician up to one of professional as required. It is also necessary that dental laboratory technicians make steady efforts for self-development to enhance their own job philosophy and skills in the level of quality, while they need various educations for building up their own favorable personality and positive ideas.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the height of workbench in dental lab for ergonomic body type which dental technicians are suitable and suggest to effective improvement of workspace. For this purpose, we measured the height, weight, body sizes of total 77 junior majoring in dental laboratory science where they study school located in Gyeonggi and Chungcheong area and we research uncomfortable body type when they had a clinical training. For comparative analysis we had visited 15 dental lab and 2 dental lab of general hospital and we had measured the height of workbench and desk including chair and then We had statistical analysis measured value. Especially we analyzed the important factor causing inconvenience for work environment. As a result, we had examined, we found following results The sand table was the most uncomfortable equipment, when they have clinical training. There is no correlation between sexual characteristics of junior in college and selection of uncomfortable equipment. It is reasonable to assume that sand table which is lower than recommended height brings out inconvenience. It is analyzed that the optimum height of sand table in dental lab for junior in college is lower than the recommended height. The optimum height of sand table in dental lab has deviation according to height of junior in college. The height of worktable in dental lab was lower than recommended height. The recommended range could not apply to posture of dental technician with different height uniformly.
The purpose of this thesis is to address the imbalance between supply and demand of dental lab technicians and to propose its solutions by analyzing the improvement of employment rate of graduates of dental technology schools in Daegu area and the supply and demand of the technician workforce. Preliminary and full-scale surveys were performed from Aug. 10 to Oct. 10 in 2008 on 150 junior students of dental technology schools who finished their on-the-job-training and 150 dental technicians who were working for dental laboratory in Daegu by self-assessment questionnaire. Followings are the findings of this study. First, regarding the gender of the dental technicians, 32.7% of respondents were female 67.3% were male. Concerning age, respondents younger than 29 years-old occupied the highest percentage(39.3%). With respect to the lab technology school they graduated, DaeguHealthCollege took the largest proportion of 87.3%. With regard to interpersonal relationship at the school, 58.0% of respondents felt their relationship 'smooth'. Second, about the motive of choosing to be a lab technician, the biggest proportion of the respondents(34.7%) replied that 'because it is professional'. Regarding the degree of satisfaction about the profession, 'so-so' was the answer with the biggest percentage(51.3%) followed by 'satisfied'(32.0%) and 'unsatisfied'(16.7%). It showed that respondents were generally satisfied with their major. Third, regarding relevance of on-the-job-training with 'preparation for the employment', highest percentage of both students and lab technicians(50.0%) replied 'so-so'. With respect to 'necessity of practical education', highest percentage of the students and lab technicians replied 'relating didactic education in college to the real world' with 52.7% and 40.7% respectively. With regard to 'the aim of on-the-sport-training', 'practical training of didactic education' was chosen by 54.0% and 47.3% respectively. Fourth, with regard to the 'types of college education advantageous for the employment', both students and lab technicians groups chose 'practical training' with the highest percentage. Concerning 'helpfulness of clinical training on employment', students answered 'so-so' and 'helpful' by 50.0% and 42.7% respectively and dental technicians replied similarly by 50.0% and 46.0% respectively. Fifth, with regard to the influence of financial factors on the supply and demand of dental technician(question #1), 68.0% of respondents agreed that 'salary plays key role in the supply and demand of the work force'. Concerning the question about working condition, respondents requested better working environment. With reference to interpersonal relationship at the laboratory, respondents replied that interpersonal relationship affects the duration of the employment it was found out that there were many conflicts with colleagues or dental office. Sixth, regarding the satisfaction about their profession according to the characteristics of the respondents more respondents were 'satisfied'(10.30 points) with their profession and 'unsatisfied' were 9.47 points and the difference was statistically significant(p<0.05). According to the findings of this study, practical education on campus and on-the-job-training are as important as didactic education at class due to the characteristics of dental technology major. It was found that more practical training is related to higher employment rate. Therefore, efficiency of on-the-job-training by college education should be increased raise employment rate of the graduates and reduce the unemployment. Up-to-date information needs to be promptly delivered and future vision should be presented to the students to raise their satisfaction about the profession. In addition, to reduce dental technician's frequent change of their workplace after facing with the reality of the profession after graduation, related organizations should make an effort to present better future than now.
