  • Use of composite steel construction with precast hollow core slabs is now popular in the UK, but the present knowledge in shear capacity of the headed shear studs for this type of composite construction is very limited. Currently, all the information is based on the results obtained from experimental push-off tests. A finite element model to simulate the behaviour of headed stud shear connection in composite beam with precast hollow core slabs is described. The model is based on finite element method and takes into account the linear and non-linear behaviour of all the materials. The model has been validated against the test results, for which the accuracy of the model used is demonstrated. Parametric studies showing the effect of the change in transverse gap size, transverse reinforcement diameter and in-situ concrete strength on the shear connection capacity are presented.

  • In this work, we describe a very simple electroless deposition method to prepare moderate-SERS-active nanostructured Pd films deposited on the glass substrates. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the one-pot electroless method to deposit Pd nanostructures on the glass substrates. This method only requires the incubation of negatively charged glass substrates in ethanol-water mixture solutions of $Pd(NO_3)_2$ and butylamine at elevated temperatures. Pd films are then formed exclusively and evenly on glass substrates. Due to the aggregated structures of Pd, the SERS spectra of benzenethiol and organic isonitrile could be clearly identified using the Pd-coated glass as a SERS substrate. This one-step fabrication method of Pd thin film on glass is cost-effective and suitable for the mass production.

  • A neuro-fuzzy algorithm is presented for nuclear reactor power control in a pressurized water reactor. Automatic reacotr power control is complicated by the use of control rods because of highly nonlinear dynamics in the axial power shape. Thus, manual shaped controls are usually employed even for the limited capability during the power maneuvers. In an attempt to achieve automatic shape control, a neuro-fuzzy approach is considered because fuzzy algorithms are good at various aspects of operator's knowledge representation while neural networks are efficinet structures capable of learning from experience and adaptation to a changing nuclear core state. In the proposed neuro-fuzzy control scheme, the rule base is formulated based ona multi-input multi-output system and the dynamic back-propagation is used for learning. The neuro-fuzzy powere control algorithm has been tested using simulation fesponses of a Korean standard pressurized water reactor. The results illustrate that the proposed control algorithm would be a parctical strategy for automatic nuclear reactor power control.

  • With the advances in the high-tech knowledge and service industries, along with a high-flying economy, the industrial structures of many cities have changed. The subject of the successful cases of dimensional integrated complexes in Roppongi Hills, the actions and preferences of these complexes'users were surveyed and analyzed in this study to determine the factors that contribute to the success or failure of such development projects. The results of the survey that was conducted in this study regarding the satisfaction of the residents of Roppongi Hills with such complexes will be considered in the formulation of a construction plan and will be used as base data for designing a large-scale dimensional integrated complex in Korea.

  • Advances in podocytology and genetic techniques have expanded our understanding of the pathogenesis of hereditary steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS). In the past 20 years, over 45 genetic mutations have been identified in patients with hereditary SRNS. Genetic mutations on structural and functional molecules in podocytes can lead to serious injury in the podocytes themselves and in adjacent structures, causing sclerotic lesions such as focal segmental glomerulosclerosis or diffuse mesangial sclerosis. This paper provides an update on the current knowledge of podocyte genes involved in the development of hereditary nephrotic syndrome and, thereby, reviews genotype-phenotype correlations to propose an approach for appropriate mutational screening based on clinical aspects.

  • In the recent society of knowledge industry, a changed phenomenon of domestic corporate culture, Work Smart working in creative and various ways beyond time and space is emerged from Work Hard working just hard. Thus, many corporations are trying to configure the emotional space beside the work space to make effective and creative achievements in free work environment out of rigid organizational culture in the past. This space is called Amenity space which enables to implement physical and psychological healings simultaneously and this is not a place for rest like in the past industry society. This research suggests distinctive characteristics of other amenity furniture unlike general furniture by analyzing the variously suggested change of forms of amenity furniture for Work Smart and the changes of configuring key factors such as forms, structures and functions of amenity furniture.

  • Marine-derived microbes have yielded a variety of metabolites so far. In the course of the project to find metabolites from marine microbes, an isolate of Penicillium glabrum (SF 5317) was selected for chemical investigation. A large scale culture of this strain in PDA media was extracted with an organic solvent and the extract was subjected to a serious of chromatography, which led to six metabolites. Their chemical structures were elucidated as sulochrin (1), questin (2), questinol (3), ergosterol (4), 3-methyldesmethoxyyangonin (5), and hydroxysulochrin (6) on the basis of spectroscopic data. To the best of our knowledge, this is the second isolation of compounds 5 and 6 in nature and especially 6 is isolated from Penicillium sp. for the first time.

  • This report describes a dog infected with Hepatozoon canis, the first canine infection in the Republic of Korea. A 2-year-old intact male Maltese dog presented with anorexia and depression. Physical examinations revealed mild dehydration and hyperthermia ($39.8^{\circ}C$), and blood analysis showed pancytopenia. Diff-Quik staining of blood smear specimens showed the presence of ellipsoidal shaped structures (gamonts of H. canis) within a small number of neutrophils. Real-time PCR analysis using whole blood confirmed infection by H. canis. The clinical condition of the dog improved after symptomatic treatment and administration of doxycycline. Although a molecular epidemiologic survey in Korea showed H. canis infection of dogs, to our knowledge this is the first report of a dog infection in Korea molecularly shown to be H. canis.

  • Anatomical measurements were made at the necoropsy and sacrifice in a group of 41 adult female Rhesus monkey to determine the 34 characteristcs found in tracheas snd bronchus. Table 1, 2, 3, 4, and figure 1 were therefore prepared as a guide in the further use for illustrating monkey lung research. Summary of this report is as follows: 1. Accurate Knowledge of these measurements may have some value in pulmonary dissection and reconstructive procedures. 2. These studies may provide a more accurate determination of the monkey lungs. 3. The right and left bronchus length of the monkey is shorter than fornd in man. 4. The left bronchus length is more longer than the rrght bronchas. 5. There were large variation among the weight of adult female Rhesus monkey.

  • In performing lightning and fault studies in GISs, it is of great importance to accurately model the conductor network consisting of the grounding systems and overhead conductor structures. In particular, the overhead grounded pipe enclosures of the GIS should be appropriately modelled. In this paper, the overhead pipe enclosures of a 500 kV $SF_6$ breaker and substation grounding system are presented in detail. During a phase-to-ground fault, scalar potentials and electromagnetic fields are computed at different frequencies for various conductor network configurations is defined by varying the number of conductors used to represent the pipes at different frequencies are obtained. Such knowledge will be very useful in reducing computation time for a transient ground potential rise study which will be performed in the future.
