A Network Reconfiguration Method for BESS based Service Restoration in Distribution Systems (연계선로가 없는 배전선로에서 BESS기반 정전복구를 위한 토폴로지 재구성 방안)

  • Outage areas can be transferred to adjacent feeders to restore power supply in case of the fault on the distribution system. Feeders in the small island or mountain area may not have backup feeders due to the low density of load. In this weakly meshed open loop system, BESS can be used as a backup feeder to improve reliability of power supply. This paper proposes a new network reconfiguration method for BESS based service restoration. Fuzzy decision making technique is adopted to deal with fuzziness of service restoration planning rules. Case studies using KEPCO real distribution system have been performed to verify feasibility of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, using the power system information obtained from real-time monitoring device, to analyze the voltage stability margin index and described the voltage stability control scheme for voltage stability enhancement. Based on the utilization of the voltage stability monitoring index based on local information provided by the PMU(Phasor Measurement Unit), the purpose of the plan is to control the system stably in real time. In order to apply the load control scheme, the voltage stability margin is calculated using the data acquired through the PMU installed in each load bus. If the voltage drops below a certain level, load control is performed for each. The effectiveness of the voltage stability control measures is applied to the actual KEPCO system to analyze the effectiveness.

  • This paper presents the various application programs for the Distribution Automation System (DAS) of the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO)'s distribution system. These programs are developed to allow for optimal operation in the areas of feeder automation, relay coordination, loss minimization and so on. They are single line diagram auto creation programs for the feeder, service restoration program, protection coordination program, data error detection program, and optimal network reconfiguration program. The details of these programs are presented for validity and effectiveness.

  • Since 1996, KEPCO has been operating a wide range lightning detection system, LPATS, and been accumulating relative application techniques and statistical analysis skills. So, KEPRI already has its own basis to develope more accurate advanced detection technology and references to do comparative study. For three-dimensional imaging of lightning channels, UHF/VHF antenna systems were installed at 2 sites. The distance between two sites is about 30 km. These systems were used the AOA(Angle of Arrival) methods for lightning detection. In this paper, we would like to introduce about our system and its results.

  • The preventive diagnostic system prevents transformers from power failure by giving alarm and observing transformers in service. And it helps to establish the plan for optimum maintenance of transformer as well as to find location or cause of fault using accumulated data. KEPCO has adopted the preventive diagnostic system at nine 345kV substations since 1997. Techniques for component sensors of preventive diagnostic system were settled but diagnostic algorithm, diagnostic criteria and practical use of accumulated data are not yet established. This paper, to build up the base of preventive diagnostic algorithm for the power transformer, investigated the preventive diagnostic criteria for power transformer.

  • KEPCO conducted the project called the "Feasibility Study & Basic Designs for the 500kV Transmission System in Myanmar" as its second overseas project following the "Development Study on the Power System Network Analysis in Myanmar" as it first project. This paper deals with the design processes and results of 423 kilometers of the 500kV single circuit transmission lines and three substations. The main contents of the basic design include insulation design, transmission line design and substation design.

  • KEPCO has a plan to construct TRF (tritium removal facility) in wolsong nuclear power plant site by 2005. In advance of WTRF construction, the pilot plant was installed at KEPRI in order to show process reliability of WTRF. The main processes of this pilot plant are LPCE(liquid phase catalytic exchange) and CD (cryogenic distillation). Deuterium is separated from heavy water in LPCE process and concentrated in CD process. CD process consists of cold box, where are a distillation column and heat exchangers, vacuum system, cryogenic refrigerant supply system and instrument & control system. The experience of the pilot plant will be used in WTRF design review, operating procedure revision and fundamental education for the operators.

  • This paper suggests a long-term distribution area load forecasting algorithm which offers basic data for distribution planning of power system. To build forecasting model, 4-level hierarchical spatial structure is introduced: System, Region, Area, and Substation. And, each spatial load can be decided proportional to its portion in the higher level. This paper introduces the horizon year loads to improve the forecasting results. And, this paper also introduces an effective load transfer algorithm to improve forecasting stability in case of new or stopped substations. The proposed model is applied to the load forecasting of KEPCO system composed of 16 regions, 85 areas and 761 substations, and the results are compared with those of econometrics model to verify its validity.

  • Operation of wind turbines has impacts on the voltage quantity at the connected electricity network. Increasing penetration of wind energy makes necessary to study the power quality regarding voltage variations(sag, swell, interruption) and presence of harmonics in the id. This paper investigates the voltage quality of low voltage customers connected to wind generation system. To study the influences of wind power generation to low voltage power system, voltage data are collected in three house using PQM(Power Quality Monitoring) equipment during one month and analyzed regarding voltage variation and harmonics
