Primary intestinal mast cell tumor in a Russian Blue cat: ultrasonographic and histopathological findings

  • A 11-year-old, female Russian Blue cat was presented with anorexia, vomiting, and diarrhea lasting for 3 days. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed a hypoechoic, non-circumferential, and eccentrically formed intestinal loop with altered wall layering and thickening of the tunica muscularis. After surgical resection, histopathologic examination confirmed an infiltrative, round-cell neoplasm composed of sheets and cords of neoplastic mast cells within a fibrotic, edematous stroma. The cat was alive and healthy 6 months after surgery. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of an intestinal mast cell tumor in a Russian Blue cat in South Korea.

Increased Expression of c-jun in the Bile Acid-Induced Apoptosis in Mouse F9 Teratocarcinoma Stem Cells

  • Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) and lithocholic acid (LCA), secondary bile acids, have been shown to have a cell differentiation activity in mouse F9 teratocarcinoma stem cells. Treatment with bile acids induced morphological changes, including cytoplasmic and nuclear membrane blebbing, aggregation of organelles, and chromatin condensation, corresponding to apoptosis. Moreover, the bile acids induced intemucleosomal DNA fragmentation, a hallmark of apoptosis. In addition, the expression of c-jun was increased, but that of c-myc and laminin was decreased during apoptosis induced by the bile acids in F9 cells. These results suggest that the bile acids can induce apoptosis in F9 cells. Furthermore, the c-jun expression may be related to the apoptosis induced by UDCA or LCA in F9 cells.

On the Semantic Differences of the Two Plural Forms in Korean (두 가지 복수형의 의미 차이에 대하여)

  • We examine the meanings of two plural forms in Korean. Kwak (2003) and Jun (2004) claimed that unmarked (i.e. zero) plural forms denote groups and 'deul' plural forms denote sums, and Kang (2007) indicated problems in such claims. Soon after, Jun (2007) raised an objection to Kang's view by slightly modifying his former analysis, and now this paper is a reply to Jun (2007). Jun's revision of his former view is one step forward but still it is faced with many authentic counter examples. In the mean time, Noh (2008) raised an objection to Kang (2007) from a totally different direction, claiming that unmarked forms are not plural but only singular. This position is not sound, either. We have so many cases where unmarked forms are used with plural interpretation. All in all, our view that unmarked forms denote singular as well plural individuals(sums, groups) and 'deul' forms denote only plural individuals(sums, groups) is to be maintained.

  • Mechanical properties of concrete containing furnace slag according to the CBS Dust Replacement Ratio were analyzed. The experimental study found that the compressive strength was excellent in the early age when the CBS Dust was replaced, and the drying shrinkage was excellent, and the replacement of CBS Dust 5% on the concrete containing the furnace slag would have a positive effect.

  • Telomeres are DNA-protein complexes at the ends of chromosomes, which play an essential protective role against DNA degradation and aberrant recombination during cell divisions. Several telomerase inhibitors have been reported as candidates for new antitumor drugs. Among them, 2-thiobenzylpyridines, developed by Geron. Co Ltd. as a telomerase inhibitor, were chosen as lead compounds. Twenty-one pyridine-2- carboxylate derivatives were prepared by the coupling of 6-formyl-2-carboxylic acid with the corresponding phenol, thiophenol, and aniline, substituted with various functional groups.   • 현재 선천적인 청각장애인이나 언어 장애가 있는 사람은 다른 사람과의 대화에 많은 불편을 겪고 있다. 매장을 이용하기 어려움은 물론 언어전달 능력이 떨어지기 때문에 간단한 의사소통을 통한 서로 간의 교류 또한 불편함을 감수해야 한다. 현재는 따로 디스플레이가 내장된 장치를 이용하여 지정된 장소에서 수화를 번역해야 하는 불편함을 해당 문제 해결을 위해 본 연구에서는 딥러닝을 적용하여 수화를 인식하고 번역하여 디스플레이에 텍스트를 출력해주는 시스템을 개발하였다. AI 프레임워크 MediaPipe와 SVM 알고리즘을 라즈베리파이에 적용하여 구현하였다. 개발한 시스템은 제스처에 대한 번역 결과를 제공한다. 기존의 지정된 장소가 아닌 대화가 필요한 모든 장소에서 번역이 가능하도록 개선하여 청각장애인과 언어장애가 있는 사람들과 소통의 불편함을 줄일 수 있을 것으로 기대할 수 있다.

  • 현재 시각장애인들이 현금을 사용하게 될 시 지폐가 얼마인지 확인할 방법이 없어 불편을 겪거나 금전적 사기를 당할 위험이 잦다. 한국은행에서는 이러한 사고를 막기 위해 점자 지폐를 만들어 발부하고 있지만 시각장애인 91%가 식별하지 못해 많은 불편을 겪고 있다. 본 논문에서는 딥러닝을 활용하여 화폐를 인식하고 TTS 기술을 사용하여 지폐의 값이 얼마인지 소리로 알려주는 시스템을 개발하였다. 지폐 인식을 위해 데이터를 직접 수집하여 YOLOv5 알고리즘을 활용하여 학습시킨 Weights 파일을 사용하였다. 이를 활용하여 시각장애인들은 더 안전하게 현금을 사용하고, 금전적인 문제를 예방할 수 있다.
