This study proposes a process information model which can integrate various activities during the product development process, the system which can manage the process. Development process information will allow designers and managers to access previous tasks readily and utilize the information in making decisions at hand. While developing products in heterogeneous and distributed environments, concurrent and collaborative designs can be achieved by STEP. The process model in this study divides the task of product development into two fundamental parts, Specific Process(SP) and Normal Process(NP). SP includes the specific information and refer to those defined by prior STEP. NP is routine process excluded from being defined as SP. Due data information can be added to manage development pace and to show delayed tasks. As two or more different processes can be linked to show the entire development flow, Static STEP information can be dynamically interlaced. Remote location operations can be incorporated on the Internet using STEP, and information can be shared. The system has been built upon a process model schema so that task stage, design history, and different development style can be managed and accessed for each component. The system has been proven efficient in information management and exchange by several scenario testings.
A prototype design process visualization and guidance system, is being developed. Its purpose is to visualize the design process in more intuitive manner so that one can get an insight to the complicated aspects of the design process. By providing a tangible utility to the design process performed by the expert designers or guided by the system, novice designers will be greatly helped to learn how to approach a certain class of design. Not only as an analysis tool to represent the characteristics of the design process, the system will be useful also for learning design process. A design ontology is being developed to provide the system with a knowledge-base, representing designer's activities associated with various design information during the conceptual design process, and then to be utilized for a computer environment for design analysis and guidance. To develop the design ontology, a conceptual framework of design activity model is proposed, and then the model has been tested and elaborated through investigating the nature of the early conceptual design. A design process representation model is conceptualized based on the ontology, and reflected into the development of the system. This paper presents the development process of the visualization system, modeling of design process ontology, and how the system could be utilized for the analysis and learning of conceptual design methods using computer mediated design support environment.

Integration of engineering information through the IT (Information Technology) is very important key during the collaboration design process. How can we realize the data efficiently in real-time at the early design stage? How can we manage to integrate the separate information made by each designer or department effectively in real time? IT global trend is the unique way of handling these complicated problems from the information inundation. This paper suggests the design process management system deduced from the analytical results considering BPM (Business Process Management) solution workflow. Workflow based design process management system can help user share and integrate the needed information at the right time through Internet. It is found that the proposed tool works well for a beam design case, and this framework can be thus further expanded for an engineering design environment smoothly.

Results of experiments conducted in university-based design studio suggests that Building information Modeling invites the adoption of a dramatically different design process, traditional design process and BIM-aided design process. Experiment method is used the actual experiment by students. In contrast to traditional design process rooted in successive refinement of abstractions and dependence on tacit knowledge, the studio BIM-aided design process depends on a complete and comprehensive date base and alterative solutions by complete analysis for helping choice of finial result. BIM viewed as provocateur of design education provides great potential for the critical analysis of how architectural design is taught. The results reflect new ways of teaching and addressing BIM methods and process in the design studio project.
A case study bas been conducted to explore design activities of four expert designers through protocol analysis, We examined relations among design information, process patterns and solution qualities with two complementary coding schemes based on design contents and design process, Relation between personal creativity modes and design activities has been examined as well. Regarding design process, an adequate distribution of activities in process may be necessary to bring out a good solution. It seemed that the more design contents about context, external knowledge, and general feature are used, the more unique design concepts are made. Regarding personal creativity modes, not much of differences in that design activity were observed while only a few relations between designer's personality and design activity were observed. The fact that the designers participated are all experienced designers could explain this. Investigation on the differences between novice designers and expert designer reflected in protocol data based on design information and design process coding scheme is to be done. Also, how personal process patterns observed through this protocol analysis can be utilized in composing design team.
In the initial step of BIM based architectural design process, workloads are increased and the decision making process becomes more complex than those of the conventional design process. Technologies regarding distribution, exchange, classification, verification of BIM data are fundamental elements of construct environment for information sharing based on BIM. Interoperability of BIM model data is another issue to integrate BIM model. To improve interoperability in BIM-based collaboration, a model for utilizing formal&unformal design informations is suggested. Futhermore, Prototyping the model and practical test is conducted for advancement of data exchange making design data richen.

Designing a complex system such as an LCD developing system becomes inefficient when many designers are involved and create their own parts even though they can be used repeatedly in other sections. Thus, this paper proposes a new design process that can maximize the number of common parts in complex system design by organizing the 3D design process. The proposed design process consists of 5 stages: analysis of design intention, definition of initial product structure, definition of skeleton model, sharing design intention with all assembles, control of correlation between components. The proposed design process can maximize common parts in design process, which results in shorter lead time, less production cost, and greater economic benefits.
This paper introduces an experimental design studio that explores the optimal use of current digital technologies in order to employ Building Information Modeling at the early phase of design process. Based upon the outcomes from the aforementioned studio, the paper discusses the integrated design strategies for BIM in the design process. In this paper, BIM is proposed as a design tool that increases an overal design productivity more effectively and efficiently compared to BIM as a construction tool with encouraging a design communication among different partakers in the design process.

Currently a hot potato in industries is to reduce the lifecycle of product and maximize the time-to-market benefits. A lot of methodologies and the concrete systems are in use for performing this function. One of these systems is that process are reconstructed by BPR and systems are implemented by PDM. First of all, th analyses of existing product, process and resource data must be preceded. New process is established on the basis of the analyzed information of a company and PDM implements the new process in the company. The consecutive activities like this provide the basic environment for CIM. However, the current system have been developed on the favor of a big company. There are many problems in applying it too a mid-sized company. A lot of function in a PDM tool is not necessary for the mid-sized CIM characteristic. The purpose of this study is to define the ROPP information model that is an appropriate information integration for a design process. The model shows an associated complicated information of a company effectively. Also the modeler makes it possible to manage consistently the constraints of design process on the basis of the analysis of dependency among each resource.
