One of the reasons for brittle failure in reinforced concrete structures subjected to severe earthquake is due to large local bond-slippage of bars resulting in fast bond degradation between reinforcing bars and concrete. This study aims to evaluate effects of bar deformation height on bond performance, specially, bond degradation under cyclic loading. Bond test specimens were constructed with machined bars with high relative rib areas. The degree of confinement by transverse bars is also another key parameters in this bond test. From test results, amounts of energy dissipation are calculated and compared for each parameter. Test results show that bond strength and stiffness drops significantly as cycles increases. The confinement and high relative rib area are effective to delay bond degradation, as the reduction of bond strength of cyclic loading compared to monotonic loading decreased for bars with large confinement and high relative rib areas. The energy dissipation also increases as the degree of confinement and relative rib area increases. However, tested bars with very high rib areas show that the bond may be damaged at relatively small slip because of high stiffness. The study will help to understand the bond degradation mechanism due to bar deformation height under cyclic loading and be useful to develop new deformed bars with high relative rib areas.
Following the recent US trade deficit, the trade war began between Korea and Japan in July. Korea's trade dependence is about 60% or more, indicating high export dependence and import dependence. The purpose of this study is to examine export amount, export volume, export price index, Treasury bond interest rate and analyze how index affects export amount. This study attempts to analyze the comovement and volatility with export amount. For this purpose, monthly data for each indicator were selected for a total of 234 months from January 2000 to June 2019. As a result of analysis, exports amount and exports volume showed very high comovement, exports amount and interest rates showed low comovement, but exports amount and exports prices showed very low comovement. In the future, Korea should continue to increase exports amount in view of its high dependence on trade, along with policies to expand the domestic market. To this end, strategy to increase exports volume should be presented. Korea should increase the logistics environment and competitiveness of each port and airport, improve domestic and overseas network construction and support services of logistics companies.
We propose an extension of the Lee and Jho (2015) mean reverting the two factor mortality model by incorporating a period-specific cohort effect. We found that the consideration of cohort effect improves the mortality fit of Korea male data above age 65. Parameters are estimated by the weighted least squares method and Metropolis algorithm. We also emphasize that the cohort effect is necessary to choose the base survival index to calculate longevity bond issue price. A key contribution of the article is the proposal and development of a method to calculate the longevity bond price to hedge the longevity risk exposed to Korea National Pension Services.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the mechanical properties of polymer prosthetic and restorative materials for dental CAD/CAM using two test method; surface characteristics and shear bond strength. Methods: Commercialized CAD/CAM polymer blanks were investigated; One kinds of PMMA, and one PEKK blanks. A total of 20 PMMA and PEKK specimens were prepared, and each group was divided into 10 specimens. Average surface roughness was observed under surface profilometer. The contact angle was measured with a surface electrooptics. The bond strength was evaluated by a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 5mm/min. The data were statistically analyzed using independent t-test and Fisher's exact test(P<0.05). Results: The PMMA and PEKK group showed a significant difference in the shear bond strength with the composite resin(P<0.05). The surface roughness of the PEKK group was higher than that of the PMMA group. The fracture mode were observed in PEKK groups with 50% showing adhesive remnant index score. Conclusion: PEEK is used as substructure material and composite veneering material is applied. PEKK resins will contribute to the development of successful products that will provide structural and aesthetic satisfaction.

The study investigates how financial markets respond to a shock to tone and semantic similarity of the Bank of Thailand press releases. The techniques in natural language processing are employed to quantify the tone and the semantic similarity of 69 press releases from 2010 to 2018. The corpus of the press releases is accessible to the general public. Stock market returns and bond yields are measured by logged return on SET50 and short-term and long-term government bonds, respectively. Data are daily from January 4, 2010, to August 8, 2019. The study uses the Structural Vector Auto Regressive model (SVAR) to analyze the effects of unanticipated and temporary shocks to the tone and the semantic similarity on bond yields and stock market returns. Impulse response functions are also constructed for the analysis. The results show that 1-month, 3-month, 6-month and 1-year bond yields significantly increase in response to a positive shock to the tone of press releases and 1-month, 3-month, 6-month, 1-year and 25-year bond yields significantly increase in response to a positive shock to the semantic similarity. Interestingly, stock market returns obtained from the SET50 index insignificantly respond to the shocks from the tone and the semantic similarity of the press releases.

The optimal portfolio selection problem under inflation risk and subsistence constraints is considered. There are index bonds to invest in financial market and it helps to hedge the inflation risk. By applying the martingale method, the optimal consumption rate and the optimal portfolios are obtained explicitly. Furthermore, the quantitative effect of inflation risk and subsistence constraints on the optimal polices are also described.

We investigated the crystal structural property and chemical bonding nature of cellulose nanocrystal extracted directly from cotton cellulose using high-pressure homogenizer. The nanowire-like cellulose nanocrystals were randomly distributed in the form of a dense mesh. Based on calculating the interplanar distance of the Bragg-diffracted crystal plane observed through X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, it was found that the cellulose nanocrystals formed by high-pressure homogenizer had a monoclinc crystal structure, corresponding to the cellulose Iβ sub-polymorph. Solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis for the quantitatively evaluation of the amorphous region in cellulose nanocrystals revealed that the crystallinity index of cellulose nanocrystals was calculated to be 53.06 %. The O/C ratio of the surface of cellulose nanocrystal was estimated to be 0.82. Further analysis showed that chemical bonds of C-C bond or C-H bond, C-O bond, O-C-O bond or C=O bond, and O-C=O bond were the main chemical bonding states of the cellulose nanocrystal surface.
Objective: With the introduction of third-generation light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in dental practice, it is necessary to compare their bracket-bonding effects, safety, and efficacy with those of the second-generation units. Methods: In this study, 80 extracted human premolars were randomly divided into eight groups of 10 samples each. Metal or polycrystalline ceramic brackets were bonded on the teeth using second- or third-generation LED light-curing units (LCUs), according to the manufacturers' instructions. The shear bond strengths were measured using the universal testing machine, and the adhesive remnant index (ARI) was scored by assessing the residual resin on the surfaces of debonded teeth using a scanning electron microscope. In addition, curing times were also measured. Results: The shear bond strengths in all experimental groups were higher than the acceptable clinical shear bond strengths, regardless of the curing unit used. In both LED LCU groups, all ceramic bracket groups showed significantly higher shear bond strengths than did the metal bracket groups except the plasma emulation group which showed no significant difference. When comparing units within the same bracket type, no differences in shear bond strength were observed between the second- and third-generation unit groups. Additionally, no significant differences were observed among the groups for the ARI. Conclusions: The bracket-bonding effects and ARIs of second- and third-generation LED LCUs showed few differences, and most were without statistical significance; however, the curing time was shorter for the second-generation unit.
Ultrasonic instruments transfer electrical energy to mechanical energy resulting in vibration used for various dental treatments. If we could know the effect of ultrasonic instruments on the dental cements within the cast crown, we could take care when conducting periodontal surgery and when using the ultrasonic instrument to remove cast crown, it would be much more convenient. The purpose of this study was to compare the bond strength of several dental cements according to ultrasonic instrumentation time. In this study 4 types of cements were used to cement the specimens. they were treated with ultrasonic instrumentation for 0-5 minutes and the change in bond strength were statistically compared. The results were as followed. 1. The tensile bond strength of zinc phosphate cement decreased according to the increase in time of ultrasonic instrument and showed significant difference between 0 minutes and the others and between 1 minute and 2,3,4,5 minutes (p<0.05). 2. The tensile bond strength of polycarboxylate cement decreased according to the increase in time of ultrasonic instrument and showed significant difference between 5 minutes and the others and between 4 minutes and 0 minutes (p<0.05). 3. The tensile bond strength of zinc phosphate cement decreased according to the increase in time of ultrasonic instrument and showed significant difference between 5 minutes and the others (p<0.05). 4. The tensile strength of resin cements showed no statistically differences according to the ultrasonic instrumentation time. In conclusion, it is considered that zinc phosphate cements is most affected by ultrasonic instrumentations and resin cement is the least affected. When using ultrasonic instruments the result avove should be used as an index.
An index fund is a collective investment scheme that aims to replicate the movements of an index of a specific financial market regardless of market conditions. An index fund is a popular investment alternative because it is much cheaper to run than an active fund and it performs better than actively managed funds. This paper illustrates the usefulness of wavelet analysis in constructing an index fund. The wavelet analysis can decompose the time series data in frequency domain as well as in time domain. The major findings of this paper are as follows. First, the beta coefficient that represents the systematic risk has the scale dependent property. This result can provide important information to the investors with various investment time frequency. Investors can use the betas corresponding to their investment frequencies among the various scale betas estimated by wavelet analysis. Second, we can find the usefulness of wavelet analysis in constructing index fund because the wavelet technique gives less tracking error(difference between the index performance and the index fund performance) than the traditional constructing techniques. The result of this study implies that the wavelet techniques can be an important analytic method to the other financial markets such as option market, futures market, bond markets and currency market.
