In recent times, rapid social change has caused an unavoidable need for change in general education. The purpose of this paper is to review a change in the nature of general education through reviewing the Harvard Reports. To this end, we compare and analyze a series of Harvard Reports on General Education. The Harvard Report on General Education has been published in three separate reports: "General Education in a Free Society"(1945), "Report on Core Curriculum"(1978), "Report of the Task Force on General Education"(2007). Firstly, "General Education in a Free Society" enlarges the subject of general education in public and aims to achieve universal general education. Secondly, "Report on Core Curriculum" contributes to the common intellectual foundation. It not only enriches the personal life but also enable to have a conversation related to problems of mankind. Thirdly, "Report of the Task Force on General Education" supports the idea of liberal education as well as problem-solving skills in real life. For instance, general education should concern educating global citizen. A series of the Harvard Report on General Education have shown that today general education should preserve the nature of liberal education as well as reflection of the social context.
Liberal education in colleges and universities embrace the concept of general education to enhance individual's morality, intelligence and identity. In consideration of physical education aim to develop cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains as a whole person education, liberal education and general physical education share the same values and objectives. Suppose physical education and liberal education shared same initial values, general physical education should take possession of the core means to achieve liberal education goals. To this end, it is necessary to inspect the actual statement of general physical education curriculum carefully, to find potential problems and prevent them in advance, and also explore future directions. In the current investigation, researchers found potential problems through identifying operation status of general physical education in 10 national universities. In addition, researcher provided future directions of general physical education in college and university including 'take possession of core means for liberal education', 'making diverse general physical education curriculum', 'move away from physical skill-centered education', 'general physical education as a whole body education' and 'increase opportunity of general physical education'.

With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the liberal arts education of universities has been called for fundamental innovation in its content and methods. H university has continuously made efforts to improve its general education curriculum with the goal of satisfying students' needs as well as the demands of the times. Its efforts can be summarized as the harmonization of competency-based education and the traditional liberal arts education. In more detail, it has tried to meet the demands of Ministry of Education which requests each university to establish its general education system focusing on key competencies. Simultaneously, it also radically changed its education system based on the guidelines of the Korea National Institute for General Education(KONIGE). The starting point of those changes was the basic consulting by KONIGE in 2017. According to the consulting report, H university introduced comprehensive and overall revision of its liberal arts education curriculum, increasing its liberal arts credit requirements from 22 to 28 credits in 2019. It has also reorganized and reclassified its liberal arts courses by introducing distributive elective classes. In 2020, in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Education, H university altered its curriculum once more in order to establish a competency-based general education curriculum. Under the new curriculum, all requirement subjects are completely matched with key competencies of H university. It also includes newly opened courses and subject areas such as "Social Service" and "Global Citizenship." Through these changes, H university hopes that its general education contributes to fostering students equipped with key competencies, who can face actively this challenging period.

This study researches the case of Seoul National University that applied ABEEK's engineering literacy on redesigning the curriculum. To redesign the curriculum, college of engineering, Seoul National University reduced the optional courses in general education and had the students complete the engineering literacy. This device is effective, because it is able to keep the universal general education and make the most of major's characteristics.

The purpose of this study is proposing implications toward liberal arts Informatics education at universities in Korea by analyzing Japan's liberal arts Informatics curriculum standards. For this aim, the changes of the two standards have been compared focusing on a variety of researches related to J07-GE and J17-GE. In order to examine the scope and degree of Informatics knowledge reflecting J17-GE, which is a revised version, the analysis has been conducted through the relationship between curriculum standards regarding CS. As a result of the analysis, it has been identified that principles and knowledge of informatics can nurture competency of university students as universal liberal arts through J07-GE and J17-GE based on Computational thinking viewpoint and Japanese Informatics studies definition. Thus, when it comes to developing curriculum, discussion of not only knowledge system but also number of classes and methods have to be taken into account. This study is meaningful in the sense that it proposed directions for advancing university liberal arts Informatics education and developing liberal arts Informatics curriculum standards.
This study aims to provide an intellectual understanding of the problems of Liberal Arts, in the light of the philosophy of Derrida and Ricoeur. Especially, we consent to the 'Right to philosophy' in the thought of Derrida and to the 'Dialogism' in the philosphy of Ricoeur. According to Derrida, the Right to is linked to human rights. If human rights are important to students, the Right to philosophy is also essential for them. For we must apply the Right to philosophy in the Liberal arts. According to the philosophy of Ricoeur, the dialogism can be interpreted by the possibility of communication and the dialogical method. Dialogical method connects two often conflicting or different themes. We can say that it is somehow a discussion between different. This confrontation is to strike a balance between different perspectives. Anyway, thanks to the two themes, the Right to philosophy in Derrida and the dialogism in Ricoeur, Liberal Arts course will be enriching.

It is required that university students acquire information technology in order to adapt to the information society. Therefore, it is inevitable for universities to provide students with an effective curriculum to improve IT fluency. The purpose of this study is to analyze the content of the informatics learning programs in universities in Korea in terms of IT fluency which is defined by National Academy of Science NRC99. Based on the information that the Academy Information Center announced, the content analysis was carried out from September 2010 to June 2011. According to the result of the analysis, 84 of 201 universities provide the informatics education as a mandatory course. 29 of them mainly provide the programs about word processors, spreadsheet, and presentation that are regarded as contemporary skills. These programs cover the fundamental concept, but the contents which require intellectual capabilities are rarely addressed. Moreover, the informatics education has mainly focused on elementary and secondary education. In this sense, it is valid to analyze the contents and current states of the informatics learning programs required in higher education.

The best way of approach to the character education with this point of view could start from the teachers' character, because teachers are key actors for character formation of students. This study therefore places strong emphasis on the importance of teachers' character and suggesting liberal education, as a key solution, its aim is raising and developing the whole human being. The purpose of this study is to explore the possibility of liberal teacher education. With this purpose of study, the author argues the moral dimension of teaching and the importance of the teachers' role as a character builder in ch.II. In ch.III, the present state of teachers' character education is examined and is argued the necessity of liberal perspective for teacher education to stress the character formation of teachers. The liberal teacher education means that the teacher education is integrated into the quality of liberal education which emphasizes the whole human formation, transformation of personality and critical reflection for human formation. The ch. IV contains exploration of the possibility of liberal teacher education by discussing the compatibility between liberal education and vocational education. The purpose of this study was to explore integrated approaches to physical education in general education by examining methodology of physical education aiming for convergence education. This case study was conducted, using a qualitative approach during March, 2017 to November, 2017. Data were collected through non-participant observation, in-depth interviews, field-notes, students' journal, syllabus and lecture materials. The key findings are as follows: First, "Emotion Coaching through Movement" is a course of 'understanding of body' approaching integrated humanities science and natural science. Second, it is a convergence education, conducting 'text to daily practice' by approaching positive psychology and neurophysiology. Third, it is a physical education with 'integrated theory and practice' in higher education. These results indicate that students can understand their own body, observe their daily and fixed movement or reaction pattern, and enhance the ability of understanding others through a physical education in general education.
