  • The real-time industrial network often referred to as fieldbus, is an important element for building automated manufacturing systems. Thus, in order to satisfy the real-time requirements of field devices such as sensors, actuators, and controllers. numerous standard organizations and vendors have developed various fieldbus protocols such as Profibus, WorldFIP and Foundation Fieldbus. However, the application of fieldbus has been limited due to the high cost of hardware and the difficulty in interfacing with multi-vendor products. In order to solve these problems, the computer network technology, especially Ethernet (IEEE 802.3), is being adopted lo the industrial environment. The crucial technical obstacle for Ethernet is that its non-deterministic behavior makes it inadequate for industrial applications where real-time data such as control command and alarm signal hale to be delivered within a certain time limit. Recently, the development of switched Ethernet shows a very promising prospect for industrial application due to the elimination of uncertainties in the network operation resulting in much improved performance. This paper focuses on the application of the switched Ethernet for industrial comm unications.

  • Control network adopted in the national power-plant or manufactory are mostly vendor-dependent products, which have their own special specification, components and individual communication methods. These systems not only raise installation cost, but also bring many difficulties to maintenance and extension. To overcome these problems, this paper introduces a development and application case of a new "PC/Ethernet-based fieldbus" architecture and protocol to be used in mid-level fieldbus. The designed system has a basic idea of "3 Layers fieldbus over Standard-LAN" and implemented on PCs. PC gives user friendly environment. By using an open standard Ethernet in layer 1,2, the system has low cost, wide communication bandwidth and high compatibility. Layer 3 protocol designed for large realtime data communication makes user bypass TCP/IP layer and gives user direct access to the Ethernet. This new protocol eliminates potential collision of Ethernet, and transmits large periodic/non-periodic control data by using long-frame/wide-bandwidth of Ethernet effectively, and offers simple API-Services to the upper layer. Since the system have installed in H-power plant simulator and U-nuclear power plant simulator in Korea, it have been proved to be efficient and stable without any trouble in realtime communication service for full-scope plant simulator that has a lot of control elements.

  • DNS(Domain Name System) is a huge distributed database that converts host name to IP address. We are expecting the importance of DNS is more increased because many Internet application services appear according to the continuous increase of Internet users and nearly all the Internet application services use DNS. To prevent the interruption of DNS service, DNS server is configured with primary DNS server and a secondary DNS server which takes the place of primary DNS server in case of the service interruption. But this scheme is difficult for providing DNS service constantly in case of DDoS attack, which brings about much network load or network problems in DNS server group. Therefore, This paper proposed the scheme to locally distribute load of DNS server, and the use of address system to group the distributed DNS servers. Also, it proposed the authentication scheme of the correspondent server in case the server is changed in DNS server group having grouping address. In this paper, it is shown that the prosed scheme guarantees the improved service reliability with maintaining the present service performance through the evaluation. Through this, we can expect the high improved DNS service can be provided in the Internet environment in the future.

  • This paper proposes a partial BMA (Broadcasting Multiple Access) network structure and D-ARP (Distributed Address Resolution Protocol) method in order to support full mesh routing function in the DAMA (Demand Assigned Multiple Access)-based MF-TDMA (Multi Frequency-Time Division Multiple Access) satellite system. The partial BMA network enables legacy router devices and routing protocols to be adopted in the satellite communication system, and decreases the amount of routing protocol overhead. In addition, we introduce the D-ARP method that help a spoke satellite node acquiring the MAC (Media Access Control) address from remote satellite nodes in none BMA satellite network. The D-ARP method provides the MAC address of remote nodes to each other nodes through the broadcasting-enabled satellite channel. And we lastly evaluate and analysis the network performance of the proposed approach.

Abstract The growth of internet drives many applications into internet-based systems. Internet-based expert systems can be designed with various concepts and methodologies, and they have their own merits and demerits. This papers is a study on a development of not expert system itself but expert system shell which is able to use WWW(World Wide Web) as user interface. The suggested system supports functions on multiuser management controlled by a server system as well as independence on development environments, minimization of the load for clients and network, and text-based communications such as HTML. The system uses socket, which solves problems of queuing and serialization, in order to construct multiuser server/client environmen and also the system solves the non-connective property of WWW which makes it difficult to control users and processes by using IP address and idle time which is supported by the timer.

  • Recently, various industrial embedded systems including vehicles controlled electronically are evolving to distributed multi-micro controller system. Accordingly, there is a need for standard CAN(Controller Area Network) protocol that ensures high stability and reliability of communication and is simple to construct object-oriented system with high control efficiency. CAN communication interface used general-purpose processor doesn't have many limitations in various application development because of fixed hardware architecture. This paper design and implement a CAN communication interface system based on FPGA. It is verified function and performance of system through monitoring communication with existing AT90CAN128 controller. Implemented CAN communication interface can be reused in development of application systems based on FPGA. And it provides low-cost, small-size and low-power design advantages.

  • The WDSS improves defensive capacity against web application layer DDoS attack by using web cache server and L7 switch which are added on the DDoS shelter system. When web DDoS attack occurs, security agents divert traffic from backbone network to sub-network of the WDSS and then DDoS protection device and L7 switch block abnormal packets. In the meantime, web cache server responds only to requests of normal clients and maintains stable web service. In this way, the WDSS can counteract the web DDoS attack which generates small traffic and depletes server-client session resource. Furthermore, the WDSS does not require IP tunneling because it is not necessary to retransfer the normal requests to original web server. In this paper, we validate operation of the WDSS and verify defensive capability against web application layer DDoS attacks. In order to do this, we built the WDSS on backbone network of an ISP. And we performed web DDoS tests by using a testing system that consists of zombie PCs. The tests were performed by three types and various amounts of web DDoS attacks. Test results suggest that the WDSS can detect small traffic of the web DDoS attacks which do not have repeat flow whereas the formal DDoS shelter system cannot.

  • Multihoming is an attractive feature for mobile nodes (MN) equipped with multiple network interfaces in a converged networking environment. However, the current standard Mobile IP (MIP) lacks support for multihomed MNs. Accordingly, this paper presents an immediate solution to resolve the problems of multihomed MNs in a UMTS and WLAN interworking system. The interworking system is based on a hierarchical architecture according to the UMTS and WLAN coverage characteristics. The MIP is only operated in the WLANs, and not in the UMTS, allowing the MIP to be used for multihomed MNs with minimal modifications. In addition, MIP binding filters are used to realize the advantages of multihoming, enabling different traffic flows to be transmitted simultaneously through different interfaces. The overall design aims to minimize the modification to the MIP and impact on existing UMTS and WLAN systems. We evaluate the performance of proposed scheme using an OPNET simulator.
