  • Due to the expansion of cities and the increasing number of large-scale and complex public spaces, there is an increase in public signage. Moreover, the information described on these signs tends to be diverse and complicated. Complex signs that contain multiple destinations or other information must be considered to determine not only the proper size, color, etc. but also the most effective arrangement of design elements. In the previous research, the cognitive utility of complex public signs was estimated using computer simulation software. In the current research, we focused on the objective estimation of the effectiveness of the results obtained in the previous research utilizing an eye mark recording system. Two cognitive engineering experiments clarified five points for improvement in the usability of complex signs, as follows: 1) Parallel construction of characters and pictograms is more efficient. 2) Grouping elements result in rapid recognition of information chunks. 3) Visual characters and pictograms are effective, along with proper density of information. 4) Specific arrangement of sign arrows is effective. 5) Figures on signs influence the sequence of information searches.

  • This research aims to invest consumers' purchase behavior and preference of F/W season knit wear to prepare for basic data in producing competitive knit wear which can meet consumers' demands. The results are as follows: 1. Consumers in their twenties are largely purchasing their knit wear at bonded clothing shops, consumers in their thirties at outlet stores and consumers in their forties and fifties at department stores. As for preferred materials in knit wear, the twenties like 100% of cotton, the thirties mixed wool, and the forties and the fifties 100% of wool. Across all age groups, they prefer knit wear pattern with no figures, while they consider its design and color as important factors in purchasing F/W knit wear. 2. As for the wearing sensations of F/W knitwear of three age groups, there are not significant differences in other factors except a factor of 'jacket length'. 3. As for the fitting sensation about F/W knit wear, consumers with 'thin' somatotype feel high comfort in the factor of 'girth', while consumers with standard somatotype feel high satisfaction in the factor of 'length'.

  • Clothing design considers the concept of human body proportions. This paper proposes an anterior somatotype and body proportion modular by head ratio for 20s to 30s Korean males. Anterior somatotype is classified into 18-types with 13 ratios that consist of 7 heights and 6 widths divided by stature. A total of 18-types are expressed in numerical values that represent the percentage of the stature and geometrical figures represented on the grids one unit is 1% of the stature. The torso is divided by 6 modules that are side neck to shoulder, shoulder to axillary, axillary to waist, waist to navel, navel to hip, and hip to crotch. Head and leg can be estimated as numerical information of stature and torso. Morphological characteristics of anterior somatotype are analyzed by 4 factors based on results and 18-types named by simple signs. We develop a new classification of anterior somatotype that integrate vertical and horizontal characters of body proportions. The use of integrated classification in the clothing industry is expected to increase the clothing fit.

  • Since hand gesture recognition was realized thanks to improved image processing algorithms, sign language translation has been a critical issue for the hearing-impaired. In this paper, we extract human hand figures from a real time image stream and detect gestures in order to figure out which kind of hand language it means. We used depth-color calibrated image from the Kinect to extract human hands and made a decision tree in order to recognize the hand gesture. The decision tree contains information such as number of fingers, contours, and the hand's position inside a uniform sized image. We succeeded in recognizing 'Hangul', the Korean alphabet, with a recognizing rate of 98.16%. The average execution time per letter of the system was about 76.5msec, a reasonable speed considering hand language translation is based on almost still images. We expect that this research will help communication between the hearing-impaired and other people who don't know hand language.

  • The objective of the study is to understand the characteristics of modernistic spatial design and, based on the understanding, to interpret fashion in terms of its spatial relationship with society, culture and human body, thereby looking into unique spatial characteristics fashion has. The main results of this study include : First, the rational space emphasizes geometric symmetry and harmony among each of design elements and is expressed by pursuing a perfect formative beauty that indicates an eternal formal beauty of a physical space. In addition, functional beauty is also pursued, making clothing convenient for activities. Second, the abstract space is characterized as a kind of purity by emphasizing simple patterns and colors and materials of purity for clothing, and it is sometimes expressed as being extremely abstract so that human body can be shown to be distorted. Third, for the uniform and neutral space, mass-production and production at home was made possible with clothing of simple patterns and of standard. In addition, it showed a tendency to become blurred in gender distinction for clothing with women wearing men's clothing, or borrowing design elements from men's clothing. Forth, the space as means of domination and control was shown to be segmented based on place, function and purpose. In addition, control on physical beauty was shown by promoting slim figures that are suited for lineal silhouette of clothing and circumstantial restriction on clothing occurred during war, serving to limit the styles of and purchase of clothing.

  • Yunnan, where twenty-six minor ethnics live, is located in Southwest part of China. They have preserved and developed their folk costume, artcraft, music and dance in their peculiar way with natural and cultural surroundings. So, Yunnan is known as a living folk museum. It's worth examining how climate and circumstances change has affected certain differences of dress shape in same ethnic. Research into costumes of minor ethnics can contribute to the study of origin of the trousers, as this group of people have well succeeded the basic form of trousers through their cultural history and everyday life. This study, at first, investigates geographical surroundings of each minor ethnic group, and figures out the style of all trousers by measuring the each size, then compares design color pattern and fabric. The origin of trousers examined by formative characteristics has been classified and comparatively studied. The study materials are twenty-three trousers selected from in Yunnan Folk Museum as well as other relevant literature records. This study suggests that one can examine the type of human culture through the forms of costume which reflects folk custom geography economy etc. This, in turn, can be used as a basic information for other studies, and in particular, for the study of origin and structure of the trousers.

  • According to Kant, time is integral to all human cognitive experiences. Human beings perceive things in the frame of time. Phenomena are perceived in successive way or in coexistent way. In this paper, I argue that the perspective of temporality and atemporality can be a framework to consider the issues of teaching and understanding of mathematical knowledge. Significance of temporal inquiry of atemporal phenomena is discussed with examples of mathematical expressions and geometric figures. Significance of atemporal inquiry of temporal phenomena is also discussed with examples of the sum of natural numbers, geometric pattern, and the probability of two events. Teachers should understand the potential of mathematical tasks from the perspective of temporality and atemporality and provide students with opportunities to inquire temporal phenomena atemporally and atemporal phenomena temporally.

  • We develop a business model for facade cleaning service robot system that provides service by meeting the market needs and environments. The size of the facade cleaning market is growing rapidly in recent years due to the increasing importance of indoor space and the modern trend of building construction methods. Also, maintenance of exterior appearance of buildings has become an important factor in residential and commercial facilities. Though demand for facade cleaning services is rising, the current facade cleaning services are performed dangerously in a human labor-dependent way. It is desirable that the existing human resource service should be replaced with robot-based services. In addition, quantitative analysis of rental pricing model was conducted to propose effective launch of products to the market. The robot system is economically attractive from the consumer's point of view. When the actual facade cleaning robot service is released, it is expected that verification of the business models and more accurate analysis with specific figures can be performed.
