This study analyzed the unit of child rearing in four Household textbooks approved by the Department of Education during the 1920s-30s. These Household textbooks is contained a unit related to child rearing among Household textbooks approved by the Department of Education at that time. The results of the analysis are summarized as follows. First, the structure of the child rearing unit in the Household textbooks were largely composed of 'part, chapter and section' and this structure and contents were similar among all the textbooks. Second. in general, the four textbooks spared a large space for 'childcare,' nursing' and 'new-born babies and infants,' suggesting the importance of these contents. Third, cautions for pregnant women were taught to call attention not only of pregnant women but also of their families to importance of pregnancy. Fourth, the child rearing unit contained many illustrations and pictures and some pictures were shared among the textbooks. Firth, in acquiring medical knowledge related to diseases, the textbooks demanded child-rearing mothers to 'observe' and 'scrutinize' any symptoms appearing in the child. These contents were connected with commercial products but far distant from the realities. The detailed method of 'nursing' also required a lot of time and accuracy impractical in real life.

The purpose of this paper was to explore the teaching materials in the Korean and Japanese high school Home Economics textbooks from the perspective of green life education. Although sustainable living at home has been emphasized as one of the main issues of Home Economics since the first curriculum period, green growth education has reinforced in the 2009 revised curriculum. The content analyses had been done to explore the teaching materials of five areas in the 6 Korean and 4 Japanese high school Home Economics textbooks through two checking steps. The material form of table-figure-pictures was the most frequently shown in both Korean and Japanese textbooks. Green life-teaching materials were more likely in the area of household management/consumer activity than in any other ones. All textbooks of both countries have included the green life-teaching materials according to the elements of contents mentioned in the curricula. The quantity and contents of the materials were some what differ by textbooks, so home economics teacher need to cross check the all textbooks to select useful information although the textbooks have included various types of green materials over the 5 areas. Home Economics curriculum need to actively and concretely include the green growth educational elements suggested by the previous study.

The clothing and textile education within the Secondary School Home Economics Textbook (1948) is various and practical. The first year textbook discusses the symbolism and maintenance of uniforms that provides information on the characteristics of cotton. Clothing and textiles are covered in 26 pages out of the 76 page book. The second year textbook includes the theory of color and form, along with the characteristics of flax and silk. Clothing and textile education is covered in 33 pages out of the 97 second year textbook. The third year textbook deals with the characteristics of wool, manufactured fibers, cross weaving, removing stains, clothing arrangements, and equipment; 5 chapters (56 pages out of 137) are spent on clothing and textiles. The fourth year textbook introduces the history of clothing, laundry principles, dyeing, bedclothes, and bed accessories; 4 chapters (63 pages out of 125 pages) are spent on clothing and textiles. The Secondary School Home Economics Textbook (1948) is highly extensive and profound in depth. The study analyzed 343 government-authorized and officially approved textbooks of the Seventh Curriculum's specialized subjects in high school from March to September, 2007. The textbooks were categorized into the area of agriculture, industry, commerce, household and business, science, foreign languages and physical exercise and analyzed in terms of the target and content areas of marine education. And the findings were as follows: First, among the textbooks in the seven groups serving as the focus of this study, 19.8% have oceanic-related information but pages including ocean contents occupy only 0.8%. Consequently ocean-related contents are scarcely included. The ocean-related contents are necessary to be treated goals. Second, the goals of school oceanic education are focused in vocational subjects. In order of commonality, information & knowledge are most frequent, then functionality, followed by activity & participation. There was no education provided focusing on value & attitude. Given that school oceanic educations were selected for promoting the importance of the ocean and highlighting the problems of the ocean, the lack of information & knowledge is of concern. The goals of oceanic education should be augmented to actively and positively participate in the solutions of the problems with knowledge, ocean-friendly value & attitude, and increased activity & participation. Third, the contents of school oceanic education commonly focuses on the relationships of oceans and humans, oceans and ecology, and artificial oceanic environments and facilities. Less common but still introduced are ocean resources, sea pollution, sea preservation and measures. Yet, in contrast there is a lack of education in the ethics of sea preservation.

The Purpose of this study is to present the basic data for selecting and improving the safety education contents which help practically middle school students through analysis of contents of safety education in 'field of home life' of 2009 revised middle school textbooks. The subjects of analysis are 12 types of middle school textbooks: in total 24 books written by 12 publishers in terms of the revised curriculum in 2009. The analysis criteria is developed by the researcher referring to preceding studies regarding safety education based on the seventh safety education standard presented by the Ministry of Education (2015). With such analysis criteria, all words related to the contents of the safety education of analysis criteria were extracted from each textbook, such as words directly mentioned as 'safety', words mean as 'psychological safety' and 'happy life', words related to 'attention', 'note', 'stability' etc. Under the analytic frame of safety education contents according to a home economics textbook, content analysis method was used for producing the frequency and percent of those words. The textbook analysis shows that the number of pages regarding safety education is 336.3 pages, as 9.8% in total 3,412 pages of 12 types of technology and home economics textbooks. As following the analysis of each textbook volume of the proportion in the contents related to safety education, 224.9 pages are on the first volume and 111.9 pages are on the second volume. As grades increase from year one to year three, the proportion of safety education in home economics textbooks is decreased. The highest number of safety education contents unit is 'Self-management of youth' which includes three parts of safety education. In the case of a unit for emphasizing practice, experience and practical exercise such as 'Life of youth' and 'Practice of eco-living', safety education content in the area of 'life safety' are mostly contained. Safety accidents related to the most student experienced, Household accidents (1.4%) and experiment or practice accidents (0.3%) are presented in a low figure. The contents of universal housing and school violence are duplicated on first and second volume of text. The most presented safety education content in the 12 types of textbooks are proper sexual attitude, dietary problems, family conflict and food choice. The least common contents are dangerous drugs, family welfare, internet addiction and industrial accident compensation insurance. As this study is to analyze 12 textbooks developed in 2009 revision curriculum, it is necessary to compare it with the textbook written by the revised curriculum in 2015 and to clarify the contents system of safety education and to avoid duplication of contents. In addition, it is necessary to develop and distribute a safety education program that can support textbooks.
