This paper describes a monocular PSD-based motion capture sensor to employ with commercial video game systems such as Microsoft's XBOX and Sony's Playstation II. The system includes a PSD(Position Sensitive Detector) and active infrared (IR) LED markers that are placed on the object to be tracked. The micro-controller calculates the 3D position of the markers using only the measured intensity and the 2D position on the PSD. A series of experiments were performed to evaluate the performance of our prototype system. From the experimental results we see that the proposed system has the advantages of the compact size, the low cost, the easy installation, and the high frame rates to be suitable for high speed motion tracking in games.

This paper presents a new approach to the design of neural control system using digital signal processors in order to improve the precision and robustness. Robotic manipulators have become increasingly important in the field of flexible automation. High speed and high-precision trajectory tracking are indispensable capabilities for their versatile application. The need to meet demanding control requirement in increasingly complex dynamical control systems under significant uncertainties, leads toward design of intelligent manipulation robots. The TMS320C31 is used in implementing real time neural control to provide an enhanced motion control for robotic manipulators. In this control scheme, the networks introduced are neural nets with dynamic neurons, whose dynamics are distributed over all the network nodes. The nets are trained by the distributed dynamic back propagation algorithm. The proposed neural network control scheme is simple in structure, fast in computation, and suitable for implementation of real-time control. Performance of the neural controller is illustrated by simulation and experimental results for a SCARA robot.

The proposed lever actuator has no friction and mass balance characteristics in motion, which are adapt to high-speed and high-density optical disk system. This paper discussed about the theoretical analysis of the lever structure. The modeling of the lever actuator is found. Using the Newton's method, the motion of equation is deduced through the constraint equations and equilibrium equations in three directions (focusing, tracking and tilting). From the above analysis, we know that the shape of the hinge is the very important parameter on determining the performance of the lever actuator, and the actuator has the 2nd order system characteristics. And the first resonant frequency in transmissibility is dependent to the rigidity of the lever while the first transmissibility resonance of conventional actuators is dependent to the first natural resonance of those actuators. This means that the lever actuator is more stable to the external vibration.

Twin-servo mechanism is used to increase the payload capacity and speed of high precision motion control system. In this paper, we propose a robust synchronizing motion control algorithm to cancel out the skew motion of twin-servo system caused by different dynamic characteristics of two driving systems and the vibration generated by high accelerating and decelerating motions. This proposed control algorithm consists of separate feedback motion control algorithm of each driving system and skew motion compensation algorithm between two systems. Robust model reference tracking controller is proposed as a separate motion controller and its disturbance attenuation property is shown. For the synchronizing motion, skew motion compensation algorithm is designed, and the stability of whole Closed loop system is proved based on passivity theory.

In this paper a very brief review of historical development of optical science and technology in China is presented. More attention has been pain on Modem Optics, which developed since 1950s. The recent development of optical science and technology in following fields are introduced. 1. Optical engineering and instrumentation (tracking theodolites, high speed cameras, satellite laser ranging systems, satellite flying attitude control, cameras for remote sensing, astronomical optical instrument) 2. Applied optics (adaptive optics, optical metrology, infrared optics, optical processing, optical holography) 3. Laser science and technology (ultrashort pulse lasers, UV-X ray lasers, high power laser facilities and laser fusion, laser isotope separation) 4. Laser and nonlinear materials (rare earth elements doped laser glasses and crystals, tunable laser crystals, borate series and organic nonlinear crystals) 5. Optoelectronic science and technology (Optical communication, optical data storage, optical computing) The current situation and developing prospect of optical and optoelectronic industry in China are presented. Furthermore it points out that the optical industry could be developed vigorously only if products development capacity is enhanced and new products industrialization is heightened. The main research and education institutions in the optics field in China, as well as the Chinese Optical Society (COS) are introduced.

In this paper, we proposed an inverse hysteresis model to cancel the nonlinear hysteresis phenomenon of a piezoelectric actuator and design a feedback control system based on the inverse hysteresis model. The piezoelectric actuator performs much better in open-loop response. However, the nonlinear hysteresis phenomenon should be linearized and the closed-loop control should be executed to get the required performance in the area, where high-speed and high-accuracy are required. Thus, it is shown by simulation that a good position tracking performance can be obtained for the repetitive desired position trajectory.

A signal processor for interferometeric fiber optic sensors, which measure dynamic quantities of frequency up to 1 KHz with high sensitivity, is developed. It is a high-speed version of the all-digital phase tracking (ADPT) processor that was used to measure static or slowly-varying quantities. The processor was applied to a fiber optic Mach-Zehnder interferometer to evaluate the performance. The measured total harmonic distortion was near to -50 ㏈, which is the theoretical limit or the ADPT signal processing.
