Purpose: The purpose of this study was 1) to examine levels of awareness on preconception care and pregnancy, and reproductive health promoting behavior among pre-honeymooners; and 2) to explore the relationship between awareness levels of preconception care and pregnancy, and reproductive health promoting behavior. Methods: This study was a correlation design with a total of 134 participants (67 couples of pre-honeymooners). Data were collected with questionnaire Results: Mean score of self-perception of awareness of preconception care and pregnancy was 2.82 out of 4. Content awareness level was 6.83 out of 13, and reproductive health promoting behavior score was 3.02 out of 4, indicating low to mid-level. Women reported higher scores in all variables than those in men. Self-perception awareness and content awareness of care and pregnancy had a weak positive correlation (r=.18, p=.038). Reproductive health promoting behavior was positively related to self-perception awareness of care and pregnancy (r=.33, p<.001) and content awareness of care and pregnancy (r=.23, p=.008). Conclusion: Based on this results, a variety of nursing intervention strategies may need to promote reproductive health behavior such as raising awareness of the preconception care and pregnancy.
Purpose: The purpose of this descriptive study was to identify predictors of behavior that promotes health in middle school students. Method: The participants for this study were 361 students from one middle school, located in Gangwon province. The data were collected by a questionnaire given to the students. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression were used to analyze the data. Results: The highest score for behavior promoting health was refraining illegal substances abuse. There was a significant positive correlation between behavior promoting health and optimism. There was a significant reverse correlation between behavior promoting health and pessimism, and also between optimism and pessimism. The predictors of behavior promoting health in middle school students were optimism, school life, pessimism, school record, grade, and smoking. These factors explained 25.7% of the total variance and the most powerful predictor was optimism (15.5%). Conclusion: The findings from this study, indicate a need to develop a nursing intervention programs to promote health behavior in middle school students including the promotion of optimism.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify influence of health behavior in patients with coronary artery disease. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive design included 150 patients treated with percutaneous coronary intervention in S hospital in S city. Data were collected by using self-questionnaires July 5-August 26, 2021 and were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression with SPSS 23.0. Results: Factors significantly influencing health behavior in patients with coronary artery disease were health empowerment (β = .48, p< .001), and post-traumatic growth (β = .20, p= .013). The explanatory power of related variables was 39%. Conclusion: Based on the this study, it was found that health empowerment and post-traumatic growth had a significant effect on the health behavior of patients with coronary artery disease. Thus, it is necessary to promote the health behavior of patients with coronary artery disease through the development of intervention programs to improve health empowerment and post-traumatic growth.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a health education program on the health promoting behavior and self-efficacy in university students and evaluate its effects. Method: A nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. The subjects were 148 students [experimental(N=80) and control(N=68) groups] from a university in J City. The experimental group members participated in thirteen sessions of a health education program for fifteen weeks and the degree of their health promoting behavior and self efficacy was evaluated. The instruments for this study were the health promoting lifestyle profile developed by Walker et al.(1987) and self-efficacy scale developed by Sherer & Maddux(1982). Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Chi-square tests, t-tests, and paired t-test using SPSS 10.0. Result: The experimental group had a significantly higher health promoting behavior score(F=10.389, p=.002) than the control group, while no significant difference was found in the self-efficacy score(F=.481. p=.489). Conclusion: The results suggest that the health education program can be utilized as an effective program to promote health promoting behavior in university students.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors affecting the oral health behavior of mothers in multicultural families and the oral health management of children. Methods: The subjects were 303 mothers in multicultural families having children in childhood. To verify the validity of the outcome, a factorial analysis was conducted. To examine differences in the outcome according to socio-demographic characteristics, a one-way ANOVA was used, and the hypothesis was tested through a multiple regression analysis. Results: According to the results, it was found that severity, self-efficacy, sensitivity, and multicultural disability that show attitudes had significant impact on the mother's oral health behavior. Moreover, it was found that self-efficacy, sensitivity, and the mother's oral health behavior that show attitudes had significant impact on the children's oral health management. Conclusions: Based on the results of this study, it would be necessary to increase the interest in mother-and-child oral health, developing a mother-and-child oral health education program targeted toward the oral health of the mothers and children in multicultural families. Moreover, it is essential to educate mothers in multicultural families in order to increase their sense of responsibility toward their children's oral health management, aiming to promote knowledge and to change attitudes and behavior.
Purpose : The college student period is pivotal for establishing oral health management behaviors and habits that persist in adulthood; it is necessary to develop the correct behaviors. Appearance management behavior not only involves the management of an individual's appearance but also ensures a healthy quality of life. Additionally, it is related to health and oral health behavior. The purpose of this study was to determine how college students' appearance management behavior affects their oral health management behavior and to provide basic data for developing policies appropriate for the lifestyle of college students. Methods : A self-administered questionnaire was completed by 450 university students in Gyeonggi, Choung-nam, Daejeon on April 27, 2022. The survey comprised 5 questions about general characteristics, 18 about appearance management behavior, and 8 about oral health behavior. The sum of the practice questions were calculated, with higher scores indicating better oral health behavior. Results : The oral health management behavior exhibited was generally high. Notably, the health-related group (61.2 %) demonstrated significantly higher levels of clothing management (60.5 %), makeup management (56.6 %), and skincare (56.6 %) behaviors, whereas body management behavior (61.2 %) was deemed 'normal' (p<.05). The results of the stepwise multiple regression analysis examining the impact of appearance management behavior on oral health management indicated that clothing management (β=0.17) and skincare behaviors (β=0.12) were influential factors. Among these, clothing management behavior was the most influential. Conclusion : To promote oral health practices among college students, this study incorporated factors related to appearance management into oral health education to increase participation and interest. We intend our findings to serve as foundational data for developing oral health education programs that integrate elements of appearance management.
This study aimed to examine the actor and partner effects of marital satisfaction on life satisfaction in middle-aged and older couples via their health behavior and health. The study participants included a total of 2,108 couples, aged 57 and over, from the eighth wave of data from the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing (KLoSA). The marital satisfaction, health behavior, health, and life satisfaction of the husbands and wives were measured to conduct the analysis. This analysis was conducted based on the Actor-Partner Interdependence Mediation Model (APIMeM) with the bootstrapping technique being used as the mediating effect. The results indicated that there were significant actor and partner direct and indirect effects when it comes to the relationship between the participants' marital satisfaction and their own life satisfaction, mediated by health behavior and health. However, no significant influences regarding the health of the participants on the life satisfaction of their spouses were found. These results suggest that it is important for middle-aged and older couples to improve their marital relationships in order to promote the health and life satisfaction of both parties. Doing so will help husbands and wives lead healthier lifestyles based on their positive relationships.
Purpose: This study aimed to assess college students' knowledge, attitude, and health behavior regarding cancer based on 10 national cancer prevention recommendations and to examine the relation between these variables. Methods: The participants were 189 college students in J city. Data were collected with a questionnaire consisting of items on cancer-related knowledge, attitude toward cancer, and implementation of 10 national recommendations on cancer. The data were analyzed using independent two-sample t-test, one-way analysis of variance, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ multiple comparison test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression(stepwise) analysis with SPSS/WIN 21.0 program (IBM, Armonk, NY, USA). Results: The mean scores for knowledge, attitude, and health behavior were 23.83 points (out of a possible 32), 33.10 points (out of possible 50), respectively. Attitude was positively correlated with health behavior and accounted for 37.7% of cancer prevention health behavior. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that the related factors should be considered in the development and implementation of systemic education programs that can encourage and promote cancer prevention health behavior among college students.
The purpose of this study was to identify the health promotion behavior and its related factors of persons who wanted a comprehensive health check-up in order to provide a basis for health education to promote health enhancing behavior. Study variables were induced from Pender's Health Promotion Model. The subjects were 160 persons who had a check-up at the health promotion center in a university hospital in Tae-Gu, between September 8 and 22, 1998. The following instruments were used in the study : Lee Tae Wha's Health Promoting Life-style Profile, Park Chai soon's Self-efficacy Instrument and Moon Jeong Soon's Perceived Benefit and Barrier Instrument. Data was collected by self-reporting questionnaire. Analysis of the data was done by SAS program, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson-Correlation Coefficient. The results of this study were as follows. 1. The average score for the health-promotion behavior was 104.64. In the subcategories, self-actualization showed the highest degree of performance and physical exercise showed the lowest degree of performance. 2. In the relation of general characteristics of subjects to the level of health-promoting behavior, the male, the married, the group with several symptoms showed a high level of health-promoting behavior. 3. The relationship between the degree of performance in health-promotion behavior and its correlates were as follows: Self-efficacy was positively correlated to health promotion behavior, while the perceived barrier was correlated negatively. But the perceived benefit did not show a significant correlation with health promotion behavior. Results suggest that the development of programs with strategies to strengthen doing physical exercise and concerning health, increase self-efficacy and exclude the barriers to health promotion is recommended to individuals seeking a comprehensive health check-up.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors determining health behavior for middle-aged adults in relation to stress coping behaviors, cognitive factors, social support, and sociodemographic variables. Method: The questionnaire survey was carried out on a convenience sample of 203 middle aged in a community settings. The data analysis procedure included frequency, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regressions using health behavior as dependent variable. Result: Among the sociodemographic variables, factors such as sex, educational and eonomic levels were associated with the health behaviors. There were significant correlations between health behaviors and saliency of health, social support, and positive-stress coping behaviors. Stepwise multiple regression revealed that the factors such as positive-stress coping behaviors, saliency of health, sex, and education turned out to be significant affecting factors. Twenty eight percent of varience in health behavior was explained by these factors. Conclusion: Positive-stress coping methods were turned out to be the most important effective factors in practicing of health behaviors of middle aged. The necessity of an intervention considering the situation related to their stress and coping methods in middle aged so as to promote positive health behaviors was suggested.
