  • This study was performed a series of the isotropic compression-expansion tests and the drained triaxial tests with various the relative densities 40%, 60%, 80% and 95% for bottom ash. Using the tests results the characteristic of the parameters of Lade's single hardening constitutive model were investigated. The soil parameters Kur and n representing elastic behavior are not much affected by the change of the relative density. The other parameters such as failure criterion(m, ${\eta}_1$), hardening function(c, p) and plastic potential(${\psi}_2$, ${\mu}$) are in a positive linear relationship with the relative density. Since the soil parameters h and ${\alpha}$ representing yield function do not change much to the change of relative density and also closely related to failure criterion, they can be replaced by failure criterion ${\eta}_1$. We also observed that predicted values from the Lade's single hardening constitutive model were well consistent with the observed data.

  • A one-dimensional site response analysis program (KODSAP) was developed using cyclic soil behavior model by using the modified parallel IWAN model. The model is able to predict the cyclic hardening and degradation of soil through the adjustment of the internal slip stresses of its elements beyond the cyclic threshold, and satisfies Bauschinger's effect and the Masing rule in terms of its own behavior characteristics. The program (KODSAP) used the direct integration method in the time domain. The elasticity of the base rock was considered as a viscous damper boundary condition. The effects of cyclic hardening or degradation of soil on site response analysis were evaluated through parametric studies. Three types of analyses were performed to compare the effect of analysis and cyclic parameter on site response. The first type was equivalent linear analysis, the second was nonlinear analysis, and a third was nonlinear analysis using the cyclic hardening or degradation model.

  • The stress-strain relationship of soil is dependent on a number of factors such as soil type, density, stress level and stress path. Th accurate stress-stain relationship can be predict using a constitutive model incorporated all influencing factors. In this study, an isotropic compression-expansion test and a series of drained conventional triaxial tests with several stress paths were performed on Baekma river sand to investigate parameters characteristics of Lade's single work hardening model depending on the stress path.. Based on test results, the parameters of yield function (h, ${\alpha}$) are not much influenced by stress level and stress path, the these parameters do affect a little bit of stress-strain behavior. The parameters h and ${\alpha}$ are closely related to failure criterion ${\eta}_1$, they can be replaced by failure criterion parament. We also observed that predicted values from the Lade's single hardening constitutive model are well matched with the observed data.

  • Several isotropic compression-expansion tests and a series of drained conventional traxial tests with various confining pressures for relative density of Beakma river sand 25%, 50%, 80% and 100% selecting Lade's Single Work-Hardening constitutive model. This examination materials use regression analysis as a basis, depending on the relative density of soil parameters change statement attributes. Yield fuction represent the soil parameters h and $\alpha$ is not affected by the changes in the relative density. $\eta_1$ could be replaced by fomula. And Numerical analysis results predicted very good and could confirm that.

  • This paper presents the stress-strain , volumetric strain characteristics of the Pocheon weathered residual granite soil with variation of the initial water content under drained conditions. A series of consolidated drained triaxial compressiion tests and isotrpc compression tests with various initial water content on specimens were performed. All material parameters of Lade's double work hardening model were determined by using the results of tests. Most aspects of the soil behavior measured in the triaxial compression tests were reproduced with good accuracy by the constitutive model . Therefore double work hardening model has been shown to be applicable to weathered residual granite soil.

  • Solutions of geotechnical engineering problems require calculation of deformation and stresses during various stages of loading. Powerful numerical methods are available to make such calculation even for complicated problems. To get accurate results, realistic stress-strain relationships of soil are dependent on a number of factors such as soil type, density, stress level and stress path. Attempts are continuously being made to develope analytical models for soils incorporating all such factors. The nature of stress-path dependency, the principle that governs deformations in sand, and the use of Lade's single work-hardening model for predicting sand response for a variety of stress-paths have been investigated and are examined. The test results and the analyses presented show that under some conditions sand exhibits stress-path dependent behavior. The strains calculated from Lade's single work-hardening model are in reasonable agreement with those measured, but some discrepancies occur. The largest difference between measured and calculated strains occurs for proportional loading with increasing stresses and for stress-path directions.

  • A total stress-based bounding surface model is developed to predict the undrained behaviour of saturated soft clays under cyclic loads based on the anisotropic hardening modulus field and bounding-surface theories. A new hardening rule is developed based on a new interpolation function of the hardening modulus that has simple mathematic expression and fewer model parameters. The evolution of hardening modulus field is described in the deviatoric stress space. It is assumed that the stress reverse points are the mapping centre points and the mapping centre moves with the variation of loading and unloading paths to describe the cyclic stress-strain hysteresis curve. In addition, by introducing a model parameter that reflects the accumulation rate and level of shear strain to the interpolation function, the cyclic shakedown and failure behaviour of soil elements with different combinations of initial and cyclic stresses can be captured. The methods to determine the model parameters using cyclic triaxial compression tests are also studied. Finally, the cyclic triaxial extension and torsional shear tests are performed. By comparing the predictions with the test results, the model can be used to describe undrained cyclic stress-strain responses of elements with different stress states for the tested clays.

  • The isotropic single-hardening constitutive model has been applied to predict the behavior of soils during reorientation of principal stresses in the field. The predicted response by the model agrees well with the measured behavior for a series of torsion shear tests performed on hollow cylinder specimens of Ko consoildated clay along various stress -paths. This indicates that the soil behavior during reorientation of principal stresses can be predicted by using the model with application of simple informations given by isotropic compression tests and conventional consolidated-undxained triaxial compression tests. Isotropic elasto-plastic soil behavior has been served during primary loading from both the torsion shear tests and the predictions by the model. However, the directions of maj or principal strain increment given by the model have not coincided with the directions for tests during stress reversal, such as unloading and reloading, within isotropic yield surface for Ko consolidated stress. This indicates that kinematic hardening model instead of isotropic hardening model should be developed to predict the soil behavior during stress reversal. The experimental strain increment vectors in the work-space have been compared with the directions expected for associated and nonassociated flow rules.

  • This paper dealt with the influence of experimental error generated inevitably during performing experiments on the granular soil behaviour analysis selecting Lade's Single Work-Hardening constitutive model. Several isotropic compression-expansion tests and a series of drained conventional triaxial tests with various confining pressures for Baekma river sands were performed and the values of parameters for the above model were determined using computer program developed for this study based on regression analysis. By finding the range of the upper and lower bound for deviator stress and volumetric strain versus axial strain dependant on the increase and decrease of the standard deviation from mean value of parameters, sensitivities of all the parameters were examined. Practical use of program to determine the parameters and capability to predict the behaviour of granular soil by Lade's Single Work -Hardening model verified.
