투라치, Trachipterus ishikawae Jordan & Snyder, 1901의 형태 및 골격 (Description of Morphology and Osteology of the Slender Ribbonfish, Trachipterus ishikawae Jordan & Snyder, 1901)

  • 이 연구는 투라치의 형태 및 골격 관찰을 위해 2017년에 여수시 돌산도와 부산에서 채집한 3개체를 대상으로 외부형태를 관찰하고 내부 골격을 삶아 채골하여 관찰하였다. 형태적 특징은 다음과 같다. 몸은 길고 측편되어 있었고, 위턱은 앞으로 돌출됐다. 체색은 은백색을 띠고 있었고, 눈은 크며, 가슴지느러미와 꼬리지느러미는 등쪽으로 향해 있었다. 작은 돌기들이 배쪽에 머리 뒤부터 꼬리까지 있었다. 새파 수는 (3~4)+(7~8)개였다. 등지느러미 줄기는 185~190개였고, 가슴지느러미는 12~13개, 꼬리지느러미에는 9개의 연조와, 5+2개의 짧은 극조가 있었다. 골격 특징은 다음과 같다. 주상악골은 길고 4개의 이빨이 있었다. 치골은 삼각형 모양이었고, 간새개골과 하새개골은 크고 넓었으며, 5개의 새조골이 있었다. 후쇄골은 가늘고 길게 발달 되어있었다. 척추골은 79~80개였고, 후방 추골은 길었으며, 미부봉상골에는 5~6개의 돌기가 있었다.

  • 196년 9월 7일 전남 목표항에서 구입한 붕장어의 아가미 새엽에서 6개체의 피낭유충이 검출되었다. 이중 탈낭된 한 개의 형태를 관찰한 바 긴이형흡충의 피낭유충으로 동정되었으며, 붕장어가 긴이형흡층의 제2중간숙주 역활을 한다는 것으로 보고있다.

Preparation and Characterization of Silk Fibroin Nanoparticles

  • Silk fibroin was conjugated with methoxypoly(ethylene glycol) derivatives to prepare silk nanoparicles. Conjugation of SF with PEG was examined with various instrumental analyses. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry and amino acid analysis showed that serine and tyrosine residues in SF were reacted with PEG and resulted in increasing molecular weight. The sizes and shapes of SF nanoparticles observed by transmission electronmicroscope were ranged about 150-400 nm in diameter and spherical morphology. UV/VIS spectrometry showed SF nanoparticles might be outer PEG and inner SF structure.

  • Two-dimensional (2D) ultrathin molybdenum dichalcogenides $MoS_2$ has gained a great deal of attention in energy conversion and storage applications because of its unique morphology and property. The 2D $MoS_2$ nanosheets provide a high specific surface area, 2D charge channel, sub-nanometer thickness, and high conductivity, which lead to high electrochemical performances for energy storage devices. In this paper, an overview of properties and synthetic methods of $MoS_2$ nanosheets for applications of supercapacitors and rechargeable batteries is introduced. Different phases triangle prismatic 2H and metallic octahedral 1T structured $MoS_2$ were characterized using various analytical techniques. Preparation methods were focused on top-down and bottom-up approaches, including mechanical exfoliation, chemical intercalation and exfoliation, liquid phase exfoliation by the direct sonication, electrochemical intercalation exfoliation, microwave-assisted exfoliation, mechanical ball-milling, and hydrothermal synthesis. In addition, recent applications of supercapacitors and rechargeable batteries using $MoS_2$ electrode materials are discussed.

Comparison of morphological characteristics of the river puffer, Takifugu obscurus, the tiger puffer, T. rubripes, their hybrids, and their triploid hybrids

  • Various biometric and geometric measures were used to discriminate between the morphologically similar river puffer, Takifugu obscurus, tiger puffer, T. rubripes, their hybrids, and their triploid hybrids. The hybrids and triploid hybrids had greater anal fin width, nostril width, and snout length than the parental species (p<0.05). However, they had less caudal peduncle depth, inter-orbital width, head length, and head width(p<0.05). The morphometric and meristic characteristics of the hybrids and triploid hybrids were either intermediate between the parental species or more similar to those of one parental species. However, the external morphology of the hybrids and triploid hybrids was predominantly maternal. The triploid hybrids had asymmetry in the fin rays and gill raker numbers. This study identified phenotypic characteristics by distinguishing the morphological variables of river puffer, tiger puffer, their hybrids, and their triploid hybrids.

First report of Paranophrys marina (Protozoa, Ciliophora, Scuticociliatia) isolated from olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus in Korea: morphological and phylogenetic analysis

  • Scuticociliates are one of the serious parasitic threats faced by the marine aquaculturists worldwide. To date, Uronema nigricans, Philasterides dicentrarchi, Miamiensis avidus, Uronema marinum, and Pseudocohnilembus persalinus have been reported as the important culprit species causing scuticociliatosis in fish. The present paper reports the finding of an additional scuticociliate isolate from the gill of diseased olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus in Korea. Based on the morphological characteristics, a scuticociliate in this study was identified as Paranophrys marina. Phylogenetic analysis placed P. marina as a sister lineage to three species of Pseudocohnilembus and Mesanophrys carcini within the order Philasterida.

Neobenedenia girellae infection of aquarium-raised snubnose pompano (Trachinotus blochii) in Korea

  • We found skin flukes in snubnose pompano (Trachinotus blochii) from a public aquarium and attempted clear identification of them to the species level by morphology and molecular analyses. Skin flukes were collected from snubnose pompano showing dyspnea, anorexia and mild hemorrhage on the skin. All the fish samples (n=2) were infected with the flukes on the skin, gill and eyes, covered with excessive mucus. The isolated worms were transferred for making slide specimen and PCR amplification targeting 18S rDNA, 28S rDNA, mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (mt cox1) and cytochrome b (Cytb) genes for further analyses. Morphology and measurements data of our slide specimen coincided with those of Neobenedenia girellae. The sequence data of 2 genes (28S rDNA and Cytb) and the phylogenetic trees revealed that our specimen consistently belonged to the N. girellae clade. For 18S rDNA and mt cox1 genes, there was no sequence of either of these 2 Neobenedenia species from the type host available in GenBank. This is the first record of N. girellae in snubnose pompano, but it is still unclear if the snubnose pompano is a natural host for N. girellae or not because N. girellae is known to have an unusual broad host range and the host-switching can occur particularly in captive conditions such as aquarium or aquaculture facilities.

Dynamics of Hexavalent Chromium in Four Types of Aquaculture Ponds and Its Effects on the Morphology and Behavior of Cultured Clarias gariepinus (Burchell 1822)

  • Hexavalent chromium is a bio accumulative toxic metal in water and fish. It enters aquaculture ponds mainly through anthropogenic sources. Hexavalent chromium concentrations and its effects on the morphology and behavior of Clarias gariepinus were investigated from four aquaculture ponds for 12 weeks. Chromium was measured using diphenyl carbohdrazide method; alkalinity and hardness were measured using colometric method and analyzed with Bench Photometer. Temperature and pH were measured using pH/EC/TDS/Temp combined tester. Temporal and spatial replications of samples were done with triplicates morphological and behavioural effects of the metal on fish were observed visually. Chromium ranged from no detection to 0.05 mg/L, alkalinity 105 to 245 mg/L, hardness 80 to 165 mg/L, pH 6.35 to 8.03 and temperature 29.1 to $35.9^{\circ}C$. Trend in the chromium concentrations in the ponds is natural > earthen > concrete > collapsible. There was a significant difference (P < 0.05) in chromium, alkalinity, water hardness, pH and temperature among the four ponds. Significant positive correlation also existed between alkalinity, water hardness, pH, with chromium. Morphological and behavioural changes observed in the fish include irregular swimming, frequent coming to the surface, dark body colouration, mucous secretion on the body, erosion of gill epithelium, fin disintegration, abdominal distension and lethargy. High chromium concentration in natural pond was due to anthropogenic run-off of materials in to the pond. Acidic pH, low alkalinity, low water hardness also contributed to the high chromium concentration. Morphological and behavioural changes observed were attributed to the high concentrations, toxicity and bio accumulative effect of the metal. Toxicity of chromium to fish in aquaculture could threaten food security. Watershed best management practices and remediation could be adopted to reduce the effects of toxicity of chromium on pond water quality, fish flesh quality and fish welfare.

실크피브로인 용해조건에 따른 생체막의 물성 변화 (A study of changes on the physical properties of silk fibroin biological membrane according to the dissolving conditions)

  • 실크는 생체적합성이 우수하며, 기계적 강도가 좋고, 낮은 면역 거부반응과 다양한 형태로의 성형이 가능한 장점을 갖는 천연고분자이다. 그러나 실크는 물이나 일반적인 용매에 쉽게 용해되지 않는다. 본 연구에서는 실크 피브로인의 용해조건에 따른 실크 생체막의 특성 변화를 관찰하기위하여, 실크 함유량과 실크 용해시간을 달리하여 실크 피브로인 수용액을 만들고 이를 이용하여 실크 생체막을 제작하였다. 제작된 실크 생체막의 형태, 구조, 기계적강도 등과 같은 특징을 관찰 하였다. 비록 각 실크 생체막에 함유된 피브로인의 함량이 같을 지라도 생체막의 두께와 투명도에는 커다란 차이를 보였다. 하지만 실크 피브로인 용액의 분자량과 생체막의 형태에 있어서의 변화는 거의 없었다. 본 연구는 실크 피브로인의 용해조건에 따라 실크 생체막의 유연성, 강도, 투명도 등의 다양한 특성을 조절할 수 있다는 것을 보여주었으며, 최적의 실크생체막 제작 조건을 확립하였으므로, 향후 실크를 이용한 의료용품 개발에 많은 도움이 될 것으로 생각된다.

석패과 유생의 어체부착과 어류의 피낭형성 (Glochidial attachment and cyst formation on the fish)

  • 석패과(Unionidae) 패류 유생의 어체부착과 이에 따른 어류의 피낭형성에 관하여 조사 연구한 결과는 다음과 같다. 말조개와 펄조개 유생의 형태는 모두 둥근 삼각형으로 유생사(larvalthread), 갈고리(hook), 작은갈고리(hooklet), 감각모(sensory hair) 등의 부착기관을 가지고 있었다. 어류의 식성이나 서식장소에 관계없이 유생의 부착과 어류의 피낭 형성을 관찰할 수 있었다. 줄납자루에 패류 유생을 부착시킨 결과 가슴지느러미, 등지느러미, 아가미, 꼬리지느러미 등의 순으로 높은 부착률을 보였으며 $26{\pm}1^{\circ}C$의 온도 조건하에서 6-10시간만에 피낭이 완성되어 유생을 완전히 둘러쌌으며 5-6일째에 피낭이 느슨해지면서 유생이 탈락하였다.
