A Cross-Cultural Study of the Family Leisure Motivation and Family leisure Constraints Between German and Korean Families

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the differences of family leisure motivation and family leisure constraints between German families and Korean families, and analyze the relationship among family leisure motivation, family leisure constraints, and family strengths. The sample in this study consisted of 102 Korean two-parent families with teenagers and 147 German two-parent families with teenagers. The results were as follows: 1) family bonding motivation and rest motivation did not differ significantly between German families and Koran families while educational motivation and obligatory motivation differ significantly between the two. 2) While Korean families were more constrained to intrapersonal constraints, German families were more constrained to interpersonal constraints. 3) Educational motivation, family bonding motivation, rest motivation, interpersonal constraints, and structural constraints were found to be significantly correlated with German family strength while educational motivation, family bonding motivation, rest motivation, and interpersonal constraints were found to be significantly correlated with Korean family strength.

Arbitration Agreement through Standardized Terms and its Validity (약관을 통한 소비자중재합의와 그 유효성)

  • Recently, there have been discussions about the necessity of consumer arbitration such as ADR. The debate has progressed, because this area of arbitration has expanded into the press and medical fields. However, there is not an act for regulating consumer arbitration in South Korea. Thus, this issue has been deliberated at UNCITRAL Working Group III. The core issue of this deliberation is the validity of consumer arbitration. Especially if a pre-dispute arbitration agreement is contracted online, it progresses by using standardized terms; therefore it is possible that the Standardized Terms Regulating Act judges the relevant terms. This thesis consists of the following: First, concepts and categories of arbitration agreements. These include arbitration agreement, pre-dispute arbitration agreement, and arbitration agreement through standardized terms. Second, the validity of the above agreements will be discussed. There are three positions concerning their validity: affirmative as de lege ferenda, negative, and restrictively negative. Similar discussions concerning German law and cases would be helpful to specify and compare the issue. When a consumer arbitration agreement is contracted through standardized terms, it is necessary that the required formality of the agreement has been satisfied, before the effect of the agreement may be regulated by the German Civil Code.

  • This article investigated competitiveness evaluation of Korean product in German market that it is the most difficult to entry among EU countries in order to gain the upper hand against other MNCs. Specially, this empirical study analyzed product evaluation by using country image, corporate image and purchase experience. As the empirical results, Korean economy image and general image are significant. This means that German consumers have good image for economic, social and cultural image, so these factors influence product evaluation through halo effect. Also, we analyzed the effect of brand purchase experience and knowledge for Korea on product evaluation of German consumer. The results that country competitiveness and image play a role into product evaluation provide implication that we should make not only country image but also developed political, cultural image.

  • The legal integration in the European Union that seeks a unified system in consumer disputes and the German Consumer Dispute Mediation Act based on this pursues the procedural fairness of consumer disputes and the equality of results. The role and legal status of the dispute mediator, who plays a very important role in this process, and the stable operation of the dispute resolution system and the guarantee of reasonable results through the guarantee of fairness and independence are very important values. In particular, the dispute mediator under the Act is conceptually different from the existing mediator or mediator, and through this distinction, the duties and contents of the dispute mediator are also distinguished. For this reason, the qualifications of dispute mediators that affect the outcome of dispute mediation are strictly stipulated. There have been some criticisms of this strictness, and such strictness is also seen as an excessive limitation. However, these standards can be understood as one of the efforts to make the dispute mediation procedure more systematic and to operate objectively in accordance with laws and procedures. In addition, in relation to the issue of independence and impartiality of the dispute mediator, the status of the dispute mediator is guaranteed in various aspects. In economic terms, it is not influenced by external factors, and furthermore, in order to guarantee job stability, the results of job security and dispute resolution are not linked. By examining the appropriate level of discipline for these dispute mediators, we expect the developmental growth of the consumer dispute resolution system under our Act.

Importance of Convenience and Consumer Rights to Information in Internet of Things Shopping: Amazon Dash Button Case Study (사물인터넷 쇼핑의 편리성과 소비자 알 권리 중요도: 아마존 대시 버튼 사례 연구)

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) shopping environment can provide benefits and risks to consumers, including shopping convenience and invasion of consumer rights, respectively. We experimentally tested whether exposure to information regarding the benefits and risks of IoT shopping would elicit changes to consumer perceptions of the importance of shopping convenience and rights to information, as well as shopping intention among young online shopping consumers. The participants (N=218) were randomly assigned into one of two experimental conditions. The control group was exposed to a news article and a video emphasizing the shopping convenience of the Amazon Dash Button service, while the experimental group was exposed to the same news article and video provided to the control group, along with a news article about the judgment of the Munich court that the Dash Button violates German consumer law. We found an interaction effect of experimental condition and time on changes to the perceived importance of shopping convenience and shopping intention. The changes to the perceived relative importance of shopping convenience to consumer rights to information from pre- to post-manipulation differed significantly between the two experimental groups. The results of this study emphasize the importance of providing information on both the benefits and risks of IoT shopping. This was the first experimental study to examine the possibility of the invasion of consumer rights to information in the IoT shopping environment. This study urges researchers, marketers, and policy makers to focus more on consumer rights to information in the newly coming IoT shopping environment.

Overcoming Electrical Energy Efficiency Gap in Nepal's Residential Sector

  • The energy intensity of Nepal is economically not worthy, lacks eco-friendly and importantly not sustainable, and almost four times the average global energy intensity. Considerable efforts have been exercised to reduce the energy gap yet, it is still much to achieve. Nation priority on energy sector was envisaged with promulgation of investment friendly rules and law in hydropower and renewable technology even though, could not harness the sufficient energy. In amid of this acute energy crisis, the government launched the Nepal Energy Efficiency Programme (NEEP) with technical assistance from German International Cooperation (GIZ). Energy Efficiency (EE) practice is the most cost-effective method to reduce the supply and demand gap, reduce on greenhouse gases and pollution, and deter on import of petroleum products which finally improves on trade imbalance. This paper had proposed a framework of energy management team to promote energy efficient technologies in residential consumer. The energy management teams study the past records of energy use pattern of consumers and suggest appropriate technology for energy saving options. The paper provides some reviews of energy efficiency initiatives undertaken by the concern regulatory body which highlights the current status. The comprehensive knowledge acquired through exploratory research is implemented in this paper to identify the various barriers that domestic consumer is experiencing towards the active participation in energy efficiency program launched by the Government of Nepal.

Issues in German Modern Housing Design Reflected on Walter Gropius' Works (발터 그로피우스의 작품에 반영된 독일 근대 주거의 계획쟁점)

  • In Germany, during the modern architectural movements diverse experiments for the propagation of modern housing solutions were conducted that succeeded to the spirit of Bauhaus. Therefore, the study traced how Walter Gropius adopted the trends of architectural style and aesthetic, the concept of production, the concept for new typology of housing, and issues in urban architecture. According to the results, processes to the 'sachlich' style could be seen in the cases of early and latter works of detached houses and further aesthetic changes of later works. Second, Gropius expanded his design field from detached houses to multiple dwelling and it was accompanied by typological transformation of buildings considering the industrialization and production of housing. Third, in the cases of multiple dwelling, it could be identified that site planning of housing complexes and building arrangement reflected a shift from traditional urban pattern to new alternatives suitable for mass housing supply. Thus, changes in the genealogy and propensity of German residential designs were partly summed up and their implications on modern housing architecture were discussed.

Change in Time Use for Daily Eating and Household Work Activities in Germany

  • This paper gives special attention to the changes of time use patterns of the German population for eating and drinking as well as for household work. It especially examines the changes in time use for meals eaten at home and away from home as well as the division of labour for nutrition provision activities between men and women. The presented results originated from two time budget surveys conducted in Germany in 1991/92 and 2001/02. In a secondary analysis time use patterns for eating and drinking and nutrition provision activities were examined on a base of a representative sample of 12600 private households. Surprisingly the amount of time spent on eating and drinking increased over the period. More Germans ate away from home at least once a day, whereas meals at home were still dominant. Moreover comparisons over time revealed that the share in household and food provisioning work has narrowed between men and women, especially in households with both partners being employed. Overall the analysis shows that time use data allow general statements regarding the amount and changes of time spent on daily eating, household work and especially food provision activities. The extent of women's employment has shown to be most decisive for an equal division of household work between gender. To be able to better interpret the results and to understand the consequences for family life, it is necessary to complement time use data with qualitative interviews to gain comprehensive insight into peoples nutrition goals, motives and barriers of action.

  • 신용평점을 위한 부도예측의 분류 문제를 다루는데 있어서 통계적 판별분석 및 인공신경망 및 유전자알고리즘 등을 이용한 데이터 마이닝의 방법들이 일반적으로 고려되어왔다. 이 연구에서는 수리계획법을 응용하여 classification gap을 고려한 이단계 수리계획 접근방법을 신용평가에 적용하는 방법론을 제안하여 수리계획법을 통한 신용평가모형 구축의 가능성을 제시한다. 1단계에서는 선형계획법을 이용해서 대출 신청자에게 대출을 허가할 것 인지의 여부를 결정하게 되는 대출 심사 filtering으로의 적용단계이고, 2단계에서는 정수계획법을 이용하여 오분류 비용이 최소가 되도록 하는 판별점수를 찾는 과정으로 모형을 구성한다. 개인 대출 신청자의 데이터(German Credit Data)에 대하여 피셔의 선형 판별함수, 로지스틱 회귀모형 및 기존의 수리계획 기법들과의 비교를 통해서 제안된 모델의 성능을 평가한다. 이단계 수리계획 접근법의 평가 결과를 통하여 신용평가모형에의 적용가능성을 기존 통계적인 접근방법 및 수리계획 접근법과 비교하여 제시하고 있다.

A study on the grading increments chart for women's bodice pattern in their 20s (20대 여성 정장 상의 원형의 그레이딩 부위별 치수 설정 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose grading increments chart for women's bodice sloper in their 20s in order to increase consumer satisfaction with apparel products. The selected bodice sloper is a compromise between the German Müller bodice sloper and the Japanese Munhwa bodice sloper. Based on National Standards Position Survey data, the main dimension average for women in their 20s was set. The grading increments was set at the grading deviation application area in bodyboard and sleeve. Thereafter grading was done and the suitability of the graded pattern was checked.
