Currently used 3D models, which are mostly focused on visualization of 3D objects and lack topological structure, have limitation in being used for 3D spatial analyses and applications. However, implementing a full topology for the indoor spatial objects is less practical due to the increase of complexity and computation time. This study suggests an alternative method to build a 3D indoor model with less complexity using a spatial DBMS. Storing spatial and nonspatial information of indoor spaces in DB tables enables faster queries, computation and analyses. Also it is possible to display them in 2D or 3D using the queried information. This study suggests a 2D-3D hybrid data model, which combines the 2D topology constructed from CAD floor plans and stored in a spatial DBMS and the 3D visualization functionality. This study showed the process to build the proposed model in a spatial DBMS and use spatial functions and queries to visualize in 2D and 3D. And, then, as an example application, it illustrated the process to build an indoor evacuation simulator.

Recently, slope failures are disastrous when they occur in mountainous area adjoining highways. The accidents associated with Slope failures have increased due to rapid urbanization of mountainous area. Therefore, the inspection of slope is conducted to maintain road safety as well as road function. In this study, we apply to the remedy which is comparing existent description to advanced technology using GIS. we utilize a 3D scanner, one of the advanced method, to generate precise and complete road slope model from expert point of view. In result, we are transferred practical data from external slope stability to hazard slope information. We suggest not only the database but also the method of road risk evaluation based on GIS.

In mid-July, 2006 the torrential rainfall across Gangwon-do region caused 48 casualties and 1,248 houses submerged, resulting in damages with the restoration costs of 3 trillion and 512.5 billion won. This was because the topographic characteristics of Gangwon-do region for which mountainous areas mostly account increased the effects of landslide. In this study, the landslide region was shot using the PKNU No.4 system immediately after the occurrence of landslide in order to analyze it as objectively, exactly, and rapidly as possible. 1,054 areas with landslide occurrence were extracted by digitizing the shot images through visual reading after orthometric correction using ERDAS 9.1. Using the Arc GIS 9.2, a GIS program, hydrologic, topographic, clinical, geologic, pedologic aspects and characteristics of the landslide region were established in database through overlay analysis of digital map, vegetation map, geologic map, and soil map, and the status and characteristics of the occurrence of the landslide were analyzed.

In this study the infrastructure of PKIMS(ParK Information Management System) was constructed based on SDI(Spatial Data Infrastructure) not only to provide the consistent spatial information of the space called park but also to share the latest information so that administrative officers could make people satisfied for their information request and promote consistent policy for the park management. PKIMS was developed by integrating with SDI for all life cycle of spatial data such as the data generation, use and share so that the efficiency and executive of administrative services could be acquired. Moreover, this construction of successful application system based on SDI would be the very good sample for implementation of NSDI(National Spatial Data Infrastructure).

The improvement of the performance in laser radar simulation requires fast retrievals of the spatial locations and attributes of objects in response to the laser signals of the simulators. Since the data used in simulation are complex 3D objects such as terrain, buildings and vehicles, and are of large sizes, commonly used 3D modeling tools are not suitable for this use. We proposed a method to store such 3D objects in a database, perform required queries and integrate with visualization tools. We showed the processes for the data modeling based on 3D topological concepts and then building a spatial DBMS. Also, we illustrated the process for accessing and visualizing the stored data using VRML and performed test computations using some laser signal data. With further enhancement on data modeling and LOD problems in visualization, the proposed method will be practically applied in different situations including laser simulation.

Recently, local heavy rain for a short term is caused by unusual changing in the weather. This phenomenon has, several times, caused an extensive flash flood, casualties, and material damage. This study is aimed at calculating the characteristics of flash floods in streams. For this purpose, the analysis of topographical characteristics of water basin through applying GIS techniques will be conducted. The flash flood prediction model we used is made with GCIUH (geomorphoclimatic instantaneous unit hydrograph). The database is established by the use of GIS and by the extraction of streams and watersheds from DEM. The streams studied are included small, middle and large scale watersheds. For the first, for the establishment or criteria on the flash flood warning, peak discharge and trigger runoff must be decided. This study analyzed the degree or aptitude of topographical factors to the trigger runoff calculated by GCUH model.

Kangwondo area is mountainous and landslide happens easily during the rainy period in summer time. Especially, when there is torrential downpour caused by the unusual weather change, there will be greater possibility to see landslide. It is very difficult to analyze and study a natural phenomenon like the landslide because there are so many factors behind it. And the way to conduct the analysis is also very complicated. However, if GIS is used, we can classify and analyze data efficiently by modeling the real phenomenon with a computer. Based upon the analysis on the causes of landslide in the areas where it occurred in the past, therefore, this study shows several factors leading to landslide and contains the GIS database categorized by grade and stored in the computer. In order to analyze the influence of every factor causing landslide, we calculated the rates of weight by AHP and evaluated landslide vulnerability in the study area by using GIS. As a result of such analysis, we found that the forest factor has most potential influences among other factors in landslide.

Numerous maritime safety technologies and systems are being developed to support safe navigation at Sea. e-Navigation is a representative system for maritime safety. It is being developed to maximize the ships safety by applying most maritime safety technologies. The e-Navigation system is being developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) with the aim of introducing it by 2019. South Korea has already recognized the importance of maritime safety support technology and is actively introducing e-Navigation. Korean e-Navigation is being designed to provide diverse functions for maritime safety, such as providing an optimal safe route, risk analysis, and weather information. Service modules that provide e-Navigation's each function use different types of data that are difficult to configure as a single database. In this paper, we analyze the data needed for Korean e-Navigation, the data service system structure and types that can effectively support it.

The intention of this study is to construct the spatial database and to extract attribute data which are able to complete the omitted data in the topographical map or completion map of construction using the image data of various form such as artificial satellite images, aerial photographs, terrestrial photographs and so on. This study used the single frame images only for the raw image data, supposing the case of rigorous photogrammetric method is not available or rapid acquisition of information is need. The extracted spatial and attribute data from the images are used for modifying and updating the database, and for providing visual effect useful for guide and management of the facilities. This study intended to develop the technique able to apply in the case where comparative high accuracy is not required or rapid modification is necessary, and to verify the possibility of editing and updating the digital map using the photographs or video images remained as old data. Many of previous research on the management system for university facility has been accomplished focusing on the design and construction of database itself. Otherwise, this study aimed for the construction of guide and management system based on compiling the digital map of present state using multi-imagery, and the more applicability was intended too.

The purpose of this paper is to study a scheme to ITS service which enables the data (spatial, non-spatial and image) sharing among heterogeneous system (various environment) with employing the concept of object orientedness and to show Location Reference Technique of ITS Space DB for interoperability. Data warehouse service, query object service, interface object service, and naming object service have been identified for this. In addition, a metadata management object service and persistent object service based system framework has been devised. The proposed skeletal framework would be expected to be functioning well for ITS data sharing environment and for the interoperability support.
