The stability of the two-phase flow in a heated channel is of great importance in the design and operation of the boilers and light water nuclear reactors, because it can cause flow oscillations and lead to a violation of thermal limits with resultant overheating of the channels and cladding. This paper presents a systematic evaluation to the variation effects of the basic four (4) dimensionless parameters in a homogeneous equilibrium model. The flow stability is examined on the ground of static characteristic curves. The complicated transfer function of flow dynamics which gives consideration to the transport lag of density wave is derived, and the transient flow stability is analysed by applying the Nyquist stability criterion in control engineering. The analysis results summed up as follows 1. The coolant flow becomes stable in large friction number and specific flow, while it is unstabale in small friction number and flow. 2. Large phase-change number and Froude number destabilize the two-phase flow, but small numbers stabilize it. The effect to variation of phase-change number is more dominant compared with Froude number. 3. The dynamic analysis is required to hold the sufficient safety of heated channels since only static results does not keep it. The special attention could be payed in the design and operation of heat engines, because the unstaable region exists within the stable boundary at small and middle phase-change number and Froude number.
The effective longitudinal shear modulus(LSM) of continuous composites is studied theoretically and numerically using 3-phase unit cell model. Circular, hexagonal and rectangular shapes of reinforced fiber are considered to predict the shear modulus as a function of elastic modulus of each phase and volume fraction of interphase and reinforced fiber. It is found that rectangular fiber shape in low fiber volume fraction($v_f$<30%) and circular fiber shape in high volume fraction($v_f$>40%) shows the higher longitudinal shear modulus. Also the obtained values of LSM for rectangular array and by numerical analysis are higher than those of hexagonal array and by theoretical analysis respectively. The reinforcing effects of interphase are more significant in cases of higher fiber volume fraction and circular fiber shape. Not only the spatial distribution and shape of reinforcing fiber but also the volume of interphase have a pronounced effects on the overall LSM. It is also found that the tangent moduous of 2-and 3-phase polymer matrix composites is insensitive to the shape and distribution of reinforcing fibers.
Recently, as the shape and function of high-rise buildings have become more complex, engineering for reflecting the constructability in the design phase has the increasing importance. However, engineering tasks are not performed at the appropriate level and timing in most projects, which leads to inefficient work such as design changes and reworks. Hence, this study investigated the constructability knowledge, design elements, and supporting tools required to conduct engineering tasks related to temporary work at the design phase, and also analyzed the relationship between these factors using the correlation analysis. As a result, when the engineering tasks are applied in the design phase, constructability knowledge related to 'construction method and process' is the most important and the design factor related to 'layout/arrangement' should be considered as the most important factor. Based on the results of this study, the project participants can efficiently use necessary constructability knowledge during the design phase and facilitate effective decision-making and design alternatives for enhancing constructability.
Background : Spatial analysis of EEG is a phenomenal assessment and not so informative for phase space and dynamic aspect of EEG data. In contrast, nonlinear EEG analysis attempts to characterize the dynamics of neural networks in the brain. We have analyzed the features of EEG nonlinearly in subjects with white matter change on brain MRI and compared the results with cognitive function in each. Methods : Digital EEG data were taken for 30 seconds in 9 subjects with white matter degeneration and in 5 healthy normal controls without white matter change on MRI. Then we analyzed them nonlinearly to calculate the correlation dimension(D2) using the MATLAB software. The cognitive function was assessed by 3MS(modified mini-mental state examination). The severity of white matter change was assessed by Scheltens scale. Results : The mean D2 value of normal control was greater than that of white matter degeneration group. The D2s of some channels were correlative with 3MS and degree of white matter degeneration significantly. Conclusions : nonlinear analysis of EEG can be used as one of adjuvant functional studies for prediction of cognitive impairment in subjects with white matter degeneration and subcortical white matter change can be influential on cognitive function and correlation dimension of EEG.
This paper proposes buck-type charging method using motor inductance, 3-phase inverter and bi-directional converter without an additional charger in plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The proposed system has advantages over the conventional system such as high charging efficiency, high power factor, and low total harmonic distortion. The validity of each methods are verified by theoretical analysis and simulation.
Static power converters can be analyzed by means of available circuit simulation software packages such as PSPICE. This paper proposes the macro models developing technique for three-phase power converters using the transfer function approach. Also, these models are based on converter switching functions rather than actual circuit configuration. In this approach, VSI(Voltage Source Inverter) and CSI(Current Source Inverter) are simulated as multiport networks avoiding nonlinear macromodels of the power switches.
The experimental investigation of a coal splitter used in the 500㎿(e) boilers of fossil power plant is carried out to validate the design criteria. To predict air flow and the amount of particles at the exit, velocity and the weight of particles are measured on test planes using the coal splitter model with two-dimensional phase doppler particle analyzer and the glass fiber filter. It is found that the position of guide plate influences significantly both flow rates of gas and particle at the exit. Gas flow rate was a linear function of the guide plate, whereas particle flow rate was a exponential function of it.

We proposed 2-phase regression of power function inside exponential for PDP lifetime data analysis. In introducing our method we discussed the reason why PDP degradation behavior is described by exponential function basically. By applying our method to 50HD and 50FHD PDP lifetime experiment data, we obtained more than 100,000Hr lifetime. From these results, we claim that PDP lifetime is more than 100,000Hr.
Estimates of maximum amplitudes of conductor galloping are needed in order to determine appropriate phase-to-phase clearances on the overhead lines. One approach to obtaining these estimates is through the use of mathematical models of conductor galloping. Unfortunately, the models that consider both vertical conductor motion (Den Hartog type) and torsional conductor motion are often too complex for practical use. However, the estimates of maximum amplitude obtained from galloping models that assume only vertical (Den Hartog type) conductor motion tend to be too conservative. This paper presents the DF method to obtain the estimates of the amplitude and the frequency of galloping limit cycle, along with the wind pressure at which they occur, from a nonlinear dynamic model that considers both Den Hartog type and torsional conductor motion. From these results, the useful data for the line design guide and further insight into the mechanism of the conductor galloping are obtained.
The purpose of this research was to establish a green-networks from the perfective of landscape ecology in order to improve the function of urban green spaces. The study site was Dalsu-Gu in Daegu City. This research consisted of three phases. In the first phase, field surveys were carried out in order to understand existing distribution pattern of green spaces in the study site. 533 green spaces surveyed in the first phase were classified into 7 patterns and 24 types. The total area of the green spaces in Dalsu-gu was 3,329ha. Specifically the area of the 'urban nature parks' type was 57.49% of the total area of green spaces in Dalsu-gu, and it was expected that 'urban nature parks' type can play important roles in the green-networks in Dalsu-gu. Two analysis with green spaces in 9 types including 'urban nature parks', 'rivers' and 'neighborhood parks' were performed to establish a basic network frame of the green-networks. In the second phase, 'mutual connectivity analysis' and 'mutual matrix analysis' were performed to select core green spaces of a green-networks using 'areas of each green space and a distance between each space' and 'a rate of green spaces and a rate of water permeable pavement'. The results of the second phase indicated that, in mutual connectivity analysis, large green spaces apart from each other were evaluated as having higher mutual connectivity than small green spaces near to each other. In mutual matrix analysis, the green spaces with higher mutual connectivity and the small green spaces near to each other were evaluated as having better mutual matrix. In the last phase, we structured a basic frame of the green-networks in Dalsu-Gu. The results suggested that the basic frame of the green-networks in Dalsu-Gu was composed on four green-network axes and its shape mirrored a cruciform(+) of northwest${\longleftrightarrow}$southeast directions and southwest${\longleftrightarrow}$northeast directions, The Duryu neighborhood park is at the central point of this green-networks.
