We have transferred highly stable 100 MHz RF through a 23 km fiber network. The fiber-induced phase noise due to the vibration and the temperature fluctuation in the optical path is detected and is compensated by configuring a noise-canceling servo. The transfer instability was $6{\times}10^{14}$ at 1 s of averaging time and $2{\times}10^{-17}$ at 10000 s of averaging time. The single sideband phase noise was greatly reduced by more than 20 dB below the Fourier frequency of 1 kHz. The transferred RF has nearly the same stability as the original reference frequency.
This paper investigates the problem of protecting multicast sessions in mesh wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) networks against single link failures, for example, a fiber cut in optical networks. First, we study the two characteristics of multicast sessions in mesh WDM networks with sparse light splitter configuration. Traditionally, a multicast tree does not contain any circles, and the first characteristic is that a multicast tree has better performance if it contains some circles. Note that a multicast tree has several branches. If a path is added between the leave nodes on different branches, the segment between them on the multicast tree is protected. Based the two characteristics, the survivable multicast sessions routing problem is formulated into an Integer Linear Programming (ILP). Then, a heuristic algorithm, named the adaptive shared segment protection (ASSP) algorithm, is proposed for multicast sessions. The ASSP algorithm need not previously identify the segments for a multicast tree. The segments are determined during the algorithm process. Comparisons are made between the ASSP and two other reported schemes, link disjoint trees (LDT) and shared disjoint paths (SDP), in terms of blocking probability and resource cost on CERNET and USNET topologies. Simulations show that the ASSP algorithm has better performance than other existing schemes.

In this paper, we present a new analytical model for estimating the blocking performance of multi-fiber WDM networt:s with sparse and limited wavelength conversion (SLWC). The proposed model is a reduced-load approximation model that can obtain accurate estimates of blocking probability of such networks. Our model employs three new recurrence formulae to obtain the free wavelength distribution on a multi-fiber link, the free wavelength distribution after limited-range wavelength conversion and the end-to-end blocking probability of a multi-hop path, respectively. From the numerical results on the NSFNET, we demonstrate that the blocking performance of two-fiber NSFNET with three wavelength-convertible nodes, each of which translates an input wavelength to its adjacent output wavelengths, closely approximates the blocking performance of full wavelength conversion.
To understand water flow path in the cells of Robinia pseudoacacia and Pyrus ussuriensis and obtain color wood from them, this experiment was performed by penetrating 0.5% acidic fuchsin and 0.5% fast green solution into the living wood of them. A comparison was made of the wood structure and water flow path from Robinia pseudoacacia containing the ring-porous wood with tyloses, and Pyrus ussuriensis including solitary diffuse-porous wood with distinct fiber pits. The dye penetrated into vessel elements in the early wood of two growth rings from bark in Robinia pseudoacacia, but permeated all xylem in fonts ussuriensis. In Robinia pseudoacacia, the vessels of heart wood and intermediate wood were not stained because of tyloses.

In fiber optic networks, system size and cost can be significantly reduced by development of optical components through planar optical waveguides. One important step to realize the compact optical devices is to develop planar optical amplifier to compensate the losses in splitter or other components. Planar amplifier provides optical gain in devices less than tens of centimeters long, as opposed to fiber amplifiers with lengths of typically tens of meters. To achieve the same amount of gain between the planar and fiber optical amplifier, much higher Er doping levels responsible for the gain than in the fiber amplifier are required due to the reduced path length. These doping must be done without the loss of homogeniety to minimize Er ion-ion interactions which reduce gain by co-operative upconversion. Sol-gel process has become a feasible method to allow the incorporation of Er ion concentrations higher than conventional glass melting methods. In this work, Er-doped $SiO_2$-A1$_2$$O_3$ films were prepared by two different method via sol -Eel process. Tetraethylorthosilicate(TEOS)/aluminum secondary butoxide [Al (OC$_4$$H_{9}$)$_3$], methacryloxypropylcnethoxysaane(MPTS)/aluminum secondary butofde [Al(OC$_4$$H_{9}$)$_3$] systems were used as starting materials for hosting Er ions. Er-doped $SiO_2$-A1$_2$$O_3$ films obtahed after heat-treating, coatings on Si substrate were characterized by X-ray din action, FT-IR, and N-IR fluorescence spectroscopy. The luminescence properties for two different processing procedure will be compared and discussed from peak intensity and life time.

In this paper, we numerically investigated the optimum pump light power resulting best compensation of pulse distortion due to both chromatic dispersion and self phase modulation (SPM) in long-haul 3×40 Gbps wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems. We used mid-span spectral inversion (MSSI) method with path-averaged intensity approximation (PAIA) as compensation approach, which have highly nonlinear dispersion shifted fiber (HNL-DSF) as nonlinear medium of optical phase conjugator (OPC) in the mid-way of total transmission line. We confirmed that HNL-DSF is an useful nonlinear medium in OPC for wideband WDM transmission, and in order to achieve the excellent compensation the pump light power is selected to equal the conjugated light power into the latter half fiber section with the input light power of WDM channel depending on total transmission length. Also we confirmed that compensation degree of WDM channel with small conversion efficiency is improved by using pump light power increasing power conversion ratio upper than 1.
We have developed a measurement method of the refractive index profile of an optical fiber by using diffraction phase microscopy. In the microscope system, the reference light was extracted directly from the probe light that passed through the sample by means of pinhole filtering with a diffraction grating. The spatial interference pattern produced by the probe light and the reference light was processed to generate the phase image of the sample fiber. The index profile was obtained by the inverse Abel transform of the phase profile. In order to remove the background phase that originated from the index difference between the cladding and the surrounding medium, the background phase was calculated from the phase data of the cladding to make a core phase profile that can be directly transformed to the index profile of the core without the full phase image that includes the entire cladding part.
In this paper, the energy absorption capability of a novel cruciform composite lattice structure was evaluated through the simulation of compression tests. For this purpose, several test samples of Polylactic acid cellular reinforced with continuous glass fibers were prepared for compression testing using the additive manufacturing method of material extrusion. Using a conventional path design for material extrusion, multiple debonding is probable to be occurred at the joint regions of adjacent cells. Therefore, an innovative printing path design was proposed for the cruciform lattice structure. Afterwards, quasistatic compression tests were performed to evaluate the energy absorption behaviour of this structure. A finite element model based on local material property degradation was then developed to verify the experimental test and extend the virtual test method. Accordingly, different combinations of unit cells' dimensions using the design of the experiment were numerically proposed to obtain the optimal configuration in terms of the total absorbed energy. Having brilliant energy absorption properties, the studied cruciform lattice with its optimized unit cell dimensions can be used as an energy absorber in crashworthiness applications. Finally, a cellular structure will be suitable with optimal behavior in crush load efficiency and high energy absorption.

In this study, in order to directly evaluate the prestress of the PSC structure, a new sensor module based on the measurement of the deformation of concrete was proposed using hetero-core optical fibers and performance tests were performed. In a hetero-core optical fiber, optical loss occurs when a specific part of the transmission path is bent, and the amount of optical loss changes linearly according to the magnitude of the curvature. In order to confirm the measurement performance of the sensor module and the applicability of the optical fiber, the sensor module was deformed and the light passing through the optical fiber was converted into wattage and measured. It can be seen that the light passing through the optical fiber has a linearity of 0.9333 in relation to the deformation while generating the maximum deformation of 0.5 mm at a rate of 0.12 mm/min in a cylindrical concrete specimen with a diameter of 15 cm and a height of 35 cm in which the sensor module is embedded. Based on the results of this experiment, it is judged that it is possible to directly evaluate the prestress of a PSC structure by embedding a sensor module using a hetero-core optical fiber in the structure and measuring the compression deformation in concrete. It is judged that it can be used as useful data for the development of a sheath tube integrated sensor module to be applied to be applied to the girder model experiment.
We have been implemented 10 Gb/s-320 km of dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF) transmission. The optical link consists of a 10 Gb/s optical transceiver, an optical booster amplifier, 3 sets of optical in-line amplifiers, an optical preamplifier and transmission fibers. Firstly, we investigated the Q-factor characteristics in terms of optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) of 320 km of DSF, measured receiver sensitivity is -27 dBm and power penalty is 2 dB, respectively. We concluded that optical SNR degradation and path penalty gives rise to 1 dB penalty, respectively.
