  • The purpose of this study is to investigate of mental health professionals regarding job burnout, emotional labor and mental health by verifying the moderating effect of resilience. Results from analyzing 1,020 mental health professionals(certified people with 1st, 2nd grade licence in nursing, social welfare, and psychology) collected in the academic service studies by the National Mental Health Education Research Center in 2014 showed that job burnouts and emotional labor both had negative correlation with mental health, but in cases of analyzing moderating effects in resilience, only job burnout presented significant results. Accordingly, the results indicated that resilience could buffer the danger of mental health of mental health workers from job burnouts and emotional laboring. This study shows that it is important to care about the mental health of not only the people who receive mental health care services, but also the mental health care professionals who provide services. It also shows that the research has to be conducted with convergence considering both sides. Measures regarding the mental health care of mental health professionals were further discussed based on the results of this study.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the impacts of newspaper contents producers' role stress and burnout on their job satisfaction. For this, a survey was performed, of which the subjects were selected out of a great number of journalists employed in several newspapers. Finally, a total of 229 completed questionnaires were used for statistical inspections, such as correlation analysis and multivariate regression analysis. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, it is demonstrated that, the more stress journalists have with respect to role ambiguity, repetitive duties, and role conflict, which are three of the four factors causing role stress, they are less likely to have job satisfaction. However, role overload, the remaining factor of role stress, is shown to have nothing to do with job satisfaction despite it actually causes job stress most. Also, it is ascertained that role ambiguity among the aforementioned four factors of job stress has the most positive effect on job satisfaction in comparison. Second, burnout is shown to have negative correlation with job satisfaction. That is, it is identified that, the more burnout such as emotional exhaustions, depersonalization, and depreciation of personal accomplishment journalists perceive, they are less likely to have job satisfaction. In addition, it is become clear that depreciation of personal accomplishment, among the factors of burnout, has the strongest impact on job satisfaction.

Also, there was no significant difference in resilience according to demographic characteristics, and it was found that job stress had a positive(+) influence on job burnout at a statistically meaningful level, and a negative(-) influence on job satisfaction. In addition, it was found that impulse control power and cause analysis power had a moderating effect in the influence relationship between job stress and job burnout, and impulse control power had a moderating effect in the influence relationship between job stress and job satisfaction. Based on these results, it was proposed to preemptively apply various resilience programs suitable for the situation of fire-fighters, enhance emotional competence, and introduce coaching personnel to help self-reflection.

  • In this study, the authors developed and implemented an online music-based support program to prevent burnout among university hospital nurses. This study involved 40 nurses from three university hospitals who shared their subjective experiences after participating in 8 music-based non-simultaneous online sessions. The responses were collected as qualitative data and analyzed using the qualitative content analysis method. The analysis identified 66 meaning units, 10 themes, and 3 categories, which included: 'Recovery of physical and psychological stability', 'Self-care and acceptance', and 'Rediscovery of pride and meaning as a nurse'. This study is significant for exploring the experiences of university hospital nurses who participated in a remotely implemented music-based psycho-emotional support program, with respect to burnout prevention. For future directions, we suggest a more in-depth exploration of specific burnout factors and an expansion of research through the diversification of research methods to refine programs aimed at alleviating nurse burnout.

  • Purpose: This was a descriptive correlation study to identify emergency room (ER) nurses' coping types and factors affecting compassion satisfaction (CS) and compassion fatigue. Methods: During March and April 2013, 170 questionnaires were distributed to ER nurses working in general hospitals in D and C regions. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and stepwise regression analysis. Results: Compassion fatigue was most strongly affected by emotional expression for burnout and by practical support pursuit for secondary traumatic stress. Positive coping, emotional expression, position, positive reinterpretation, and self-blame explained 42% of CS. Conclusion: Results indicate that nurses with moderate levels of career had high compassion fatigue and low compassion satisfaction. Thus these nurses need to be given an opportunity to achieve self-development and improve their ability as nurses; interventions that can reinforce positive coping strategies should be provided as personal coping strategies affect compassion fatigue and compassion satisfaction.
