This study qualitatively investigates the nature of the challenges that a student who is highly successful in mathematics faces in learning college-level elementary statistics. The study draws on the constructs of eagerness, flexibility and willingness to characterize the necessary disposition for critical thinking that is essential in learning statistics. The case study is based on data collected through a survey assessment and a follow-up interview with a mathematics major enrolled in an elementary college statistics course at the time of the study. The qualitative analysis relies on the student's verbal descriptions of the challenges he was experiencing in the course. The findings suggest that while his strong inclination towards inquisitive learning and strong understanding of mathematical concepts supported this student's mathematics learning, the same characteristics might have been causing him difficulties in learning college-level elementary statistics.

A effective teaching method on correlation coefficient for elementary level statistics course is discussed in this article. The well known inequalities, such as Theorem 368 of Hardy et al. (1952), are used for the interpretation of concept of covariance. An Excel example is provided for the illustration of concept of correlation coefficient.

본 본문에서는 학생 스스로 활동을 통해 통계적 개념, 자료 분석력, 문제해결력 등을 기를 수 있는 NIE(Newspaper in Education)을 통한 학습을 초등수학 학습지도에 적용하여, NIE를 활용한 학습이 초등학생의 통계 영역 학업성취에 미치는 효과를 살펴보고, 보다 효율적인 초등수학 학습지도 방안을 찾아보고자 한다.

The purpose of this study is to analyze whether statistics and statistical education of intensive courses at the teachers college can improve elementary pre-service teacher' statistical attitudes. Findings on this study are as follows: First, there was meaningful difference in the elementary pre-service teacher' attitudes with significant level of 0.05. This proved that statistics and statistical education of intensive courses at the teachers college was effective on improving elementary pre-service teacher' attitudes. Second, there was meaningful difference in the pre-service math teacher' conception in the 2009 reformed curriculum for elementary mathematics.

기초통계학 교육 시 확률 부분에 대한 강의는 추측통계학 영역의 시작 부분으로서 학생들이 통계학을 수강할 때 교수 강의를 따라가기 어려워하기 시작하는 부분이다. 기초 통계학 확률부분 강의 시 유용하게 사용할 수 있는 사례들을 제시하고 R을 이용하여 구현하여 보았다.

본 연구에서는 2009 개정 교육과정의 초등 통계 관련 내용을 알아보고, 수학 교과서에서 교육과정의 규준을 어떻게 구현하였는가를 알아보았다. 세부적으로 학년별 지도 내용과 세부 내용 제시 순서를 분석하였다. 그리고 평균이 적절하게 도입되었는지, 학생들이 실생활 자료를 수집하는 활동이 교과서에 어느 정도 제시되는지를 알아보았다. 또한 2015 개정 교육과정의 평가 방법 및 유의사항을 현행 교과서를 분석하는 한 기준으로 삼아 알아보았다. 특히 Cursio가 제안한 통계그래프의 이해수준에 따라서 교과서의 질문을 분석하였다. 본 연구가 2015 개정 교육과정에 따른 초등 수학 교과서의 통계 영역의 내용 개발에 기초 자료가 될 것으로 기대한다.

본 논문에서는 초등학교 교과서 말뭉치를 구축하고, 초등교과서에서 나타나는 어휘들에 대하여 통계분석을 실시하였다. 또한 초등 교과서가 일반생활에서 사용하는 어휘와 얼마나 유사한지를 살펴보기 위하여 스피어만 상관관계 분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과로 초등교과서의 말뭉치 구축 모습과 실제 예시를 보였고, 상관관계 분석을 통하여 초등교과서와 일반 말뭉치와의 상관관계를 수치적으로 보였다.

초 중 고등학교 확률 및 통계교육 시 우리는 통계패키지로서 R을 사용할 수 있다. R은 대화식 처리방식을 따르기 때문에 배우기가 쉽다. 또한 R에서의 그래픽스는 아주 강력하다. 가장 큰 장점은 R의 사용이 무료라는 것이다. 이러한 많은 장점을 갖고 있는 R을 초 중 고등학교 확률 및 통계교육 현장에서 사용하는 표준 통계패키지로서 고려할 필요가 있다.

Probability and statistics is an important section in mathematics which is deeply related to everyday living, natural science and social science. In spite of its importance, many students will throw away it because it becomes very harder as its step(stage) deepens and probability and statistics' relative importance is very small in Korea-SAT(the test of college entrance in Korea). Therefore, by analyzing the involvement carefully between the curriculum in the elementary, middle, high school and the text book, by studying the problem and improvement direction, it is necessary to investigate an effective teaching method. This study intends to give the students the confidence, interests, and accomplishment motive about probability and statistics field and to make a rational and creative decision-making through mathematical speculation by proposing an effective teaching method through analyzing an existing facts in school's probability and statistics field. The contents of this study are composed of four chapters. Chapter three looks into the mathematical curriculum in the elementary, middle, high school and its teaching meaning, the outline of contents, some tips on teaching and problems and presents an effective and concrete teaching method on the basis of the theoretical background in the chapter two. Chapter four is a conclusive part and gives the general improvement and intentional direction in educating the probability and statistics.

본 논문은 제7차 초등학교 수학과 교육과정에서 제시하고 있는 통계 지도 목표 및 내용을 살펴보고, 개정 교육과정에서 변화된 내용을 분석하였다. 또한 수학 교과서와 익힘 책에서 교육과정의 기본적인 취지를 어떻게 구현하고 관련 세부 내용을 어떻게 구체화하고 있는지 알아보기 위해, 그래프별로 지도 방법을 분석하고, 학생들의 그래프 이해 수준에 따라 교과서와 익힘 책의 문제를 상세하게 분석하였다. 이를 토대로 초등학교 통계 내용과 관련하여 차기 교과용 도서 개발에 기초적인 자료 및 시사점을 제공하고자 한다.
