It is necessary to accumulate the studies on the practical learning and teaching for the Mathematical talent education in elementary school. In this study, I set the 4th grade children mathematically gifted in elementary school to pose the various number calculating formulars, 4 4 4 4 = 0, 1, 2,$\cdots$10, by using to +, -, ${\times}$, $\div$, ( ). And I analysed their products. In 2007, I gave the same task to 5th graders and got a significant result. To expand the target of my study, I used the same investigating method for children of different graders. As a result, I conclude that math brains in 4th grade also can create various many number calculating formulas. I find that children pose to various many calaulating formulars becoming 0, 1, 8, 4 in order whereas they pose to a little calaulating formulars becoming 10, 6, 5, 9 orderly. Most errors are due to the order of calculation or confusion about parenthesis. This study contributes to test methods and text development for math brains in elementary school.

This research analyzed domestic researches on early algebra education which are published in six major mathematics education journals in Korea. The purpose of this work is to grasp trends of early algebra education in Korea and to draw up future tasks. From 2000 to 2017, 89 papers which are related to early algebra education published in 6 journals. The 89 papers were categorized by research period, academic journals, research topics, and research subjects. As a result, the number of researches on early algebra education in Korea has increased since 2000. Although early algebra education belongs to the field of elementary mathematics education, lots of papers were published in other math education journals than in the math education journals for elementary school mathematics. Most research focused on proportional reasoning across the algebraic content area. The majority of the research subjects were students, especially upper-grade students of elementary school. Based on the results of this study, some implications for early algebra education in Korea were suggested.
In mathematics classes, the verbal explanation may contain diverse mathematical concepts and principles in short sentences. It may also include mathematics symbols and terms that might not be used in everyday life. Therefore, students may need particular listening ability in order to understand and participate in mathematics communication. Unlike general listening, the listening ability for mathematics classes may require student to integrate their mathematical and linguistic knowledge. The aim of this study is to reveal the subdomains of listening ability for mathematics classes in a elementary school. I categorized listening ability for mathematics classes in a elementary school from the literature. The categories of listening ability for mathematics are Interpretive Listening, Evaluative Listening, Hermeneutic Listening, Selective Listening, Pretend Listening, and Ignored Listening. In order to develop a framework for understanding listening ability for mathematics classes, I investigated a hierarchy of 412 South Korean elementary teachers' perception. Through a web-based survey, the teachers were asked to rank order their beliefs about and students' listening ability. Findings show that teachers' perceptions about listening ability for mathematics classes are divergent from current research trends. South Korean elementary teachers perceived Interpretive Listening as the most important listening.
The purpose of our work is to developing the program of math. camp to improve underachiever's mathematical disposition. To do this, the following research were taken; (1)Analysis of current status of programs for underachievers (2)Analysis of inclination to mathematics(We collected the data from 2 classes of middle schools) (3)Prepare and apply the program of math. camp for the students including underachievers, and then analysis the effect of the math. camp The results of this study is as follows; (1)Only 40% of investigated schools have their own programs for underachievers. But almost all general high schools do not have such programs because students do not want. More than half of the investigated teachers suggested that the most important thing for underachievers is the induction of motivation for mathematics. (2)Many students dislike mathematics from 5∼6 grade of elementary school, and more than 50% of students think that 'measure' and 'equations' items are difficult. (3) After attending the math. camp based on the games and activities in small groups, the students in the middle-ranking group showed more positive reactions against the items of mathematical disposition and attitude tests. The students in the row-ranking group were improved in the 'self-confidence' and 'will' items of mathematical disposition test and in the 'superiority' and 'interest' items of mathematical attitude test.
The newly revised mathematics curriculum in 2009 mentioned the mathematics specified classroom. All schools in the secondary school will implement Mathmatics Subject Class System by 2014. Expecing to extend the mathematics specified classroom to the elementary school, this study explores the direction how to configurate and use it. On the ground of previous research on mathematics laboratory and mathematics subject class system, this study makes questionnaire and survey recognition and opinions about mathematics room in the elementary school with elementary school teachers. Based on the result of analysis of questionnaire, this study suggests math cultural experience room, room for mathematical recreation, mathematics specified classroom as the main functions of elementary mathematics room, and utilization of mathematics room to perform such functions. This study provides suggestions about elementary mathematics room differentiated from mathematics subject class system in the secondary school.
After entering an elementary school, in fact, a number of children regard mathematics as one of very difficult subjects because of its abstractiveness. This is caused by the fact that their basic thinking power is not yet formed or they can not understand the special quality of mathematics. So this article emphasizes the need to build up the higher logical thought and a basic mathematical concept at the lower grade elementary school stage in which the loaming activity on mathematics begins in earnest, that is, at the stage before having an experience on the calculating activity using numbers. But at present the lower grade elementary school students in our country do not understand the special quality of mathematics composed of a various symbolic system and lay stress upon mathematics learning attached to the calculative activity. In order to make the right mathematical concept of the lower grade elementary school, the basic knowledge and ability as follows is sure to be formed. 1) the foundational logical manipulation activity and knowledge 2) the using ability of the sign and symbolic system At the stage on which mathematics learning activity begins, it is a very important task to make the right concept of the abstractive math and nurse the capability for finding mathematical relations covered under the sign system through the continuos loaming activity on . Through the basic logical manipulation activity and the game activity of sign for lower grade elementary school students mentioned in this article, they can not only foster the higher level logical thinking power and the foundational calculative ability but also bring up the interest on the activity of establishing a new problem solving strategy.
This study discussed a sketch map and planar figure, classical contents in math curriculum of Korea. Two problems were posed. One was the degree of difficulty and ambiguous intentions of some contents in 5th grade math textbook of 2009 revised curriculum. The other was the status of sketch maps and planar figures in more general view. We looked into elementary mathematics textbooks of former Korean national curriculums and other countries to discuss the problems. The reason why the present Korean textbook has such contents was considered, based on the result of searching former Korean and foreign textbooks. The suggestions in view of expression and building of 3D shapes were also talked.
Scratch programming comes into the spotlight as Education Programming Language. Especially, it is made better use at educational class by accessibility and visuality in elementary school. But most of latest research is just focus on effective for programming education and prove effectiveness once more. In this study, possibility about curriculum using Scratch programming and specific applicable methods were suggested. This research suggested that how to study with scratch programming through lesson "Make a pattern" in 5th grade Math curriculum at elementary school. And there was reflected that we can verify programming procedure visually and improve creativity.
This study was executed with the intention of guiding ‘open education’ toward a desirable school innovation. The basic two directions of curriculum reconstruction essential for implementing ‘open education’ are one toward intra-subject (within a subject) and inter-subject (among subjects). This study showed an example of intra-subject curriculum reconstruction with a problem solving area included in elementary mathematics curriculum. In the curriculum, diverse strategies to enhance ability to solve problems are included at each grade level. In every elementary math textbook, those strategies are suggested in two chapters called ‘diverse problem solving’, in which problems only dealing with several strategies are introduced. Through this method, students begin to learn problem solving strategies not as something related to mathematical knowledge or contents but only as a skill or method for solving problems. Therefore, problems of ‘diverse problem solving’ chapter should not be dealt with separatedly but while students are learning the mathematical contents connected to those problems. Namely, students must have a chance to solve those problems while learning the contents related to the problem content(subject). By this reasoning, in the name of curriculum reconstruction toward intra-subject, this study showed such case with two ‘diverse problem solving’ chapters of the 4th grade second semester's math textbook.
