  • In the Korean domestic nuclear industry, to analyze the reliability of instrumentation and control (I&C) systems, the failure rates of the electronic components constituting the I&C systems are predicted based on the MIL-HDBK-217F standard titled 'Reliability Prediction of Electronic Equipment'. Based on these predicted failure rates, the mean time to failure of the I&C systems is calculated to determine the replacement period of the I&C systems. However, this conventional approach to the prediction of electronic component failure rates assumes that factors affecting the failure rates such as ambient temperature and operating voltage are static constants. In this regard, the objective of this study is to propose a prediction method for the remaining useful life (RUL) of electronic components considering mean time to failure calculations reflecting dynamic environments, such as changes in ambient temperature and operating voltage. Results of this study show that the RUL of electronic components can be estimated depending on time-varying temperature and electrical stress, implying that the RUL of electronic components can be predicted under dynamic stress conditions.

  • Nanotechnology has emerged as a promising avenue for enhancing musical structures. In this study, we analyze the static behavior of laser harp (i.e., electronic musical instrument) reinforced with Zinc Oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles. Leveraging the piezoelectric properties of ZnO nanoparticles, the structure is subjected to an electric field for intelligent control. The electronic musical structure is situated in a foundation with vertical springs and shear modulus constants. We employ the exponential Shear Deformation Beam Theory (ESDBT) to mathematically model the structure. A micro-electro-mechanical model is employed to determine the equivalent properties of the system. By utilizing nonlinear stress-strain relations, energy methods, and Hamilton's principle, we derive the motion equations. The buckling load of the electronic musical beam is calculated using the Difference Quadrature Method (DQM). The primary objective of this study is to present a mathematical model for electronic musical beams and determining the buckling load of the structure and to investigate the influence of nanotechnology and electric fields on its buckling behavior. The buckling is the case when the structure becomes deforms and unstable. Our findings reveal that the application of negative external voltage to the electronic musical structure increases both the stiffness and the buckling load of the musical system. Furthermore, reinforcing the electronic musical structure with ZnO nanoparticles results in an increased buckling load. Notably, the maximum enhancement in the 28-day compressive and tensile strengths of samples containing zinc oxide nanoparticles compared to the control sample resulting in increases of 18.70% and 3.77%, respectively.

  • In this paper, flicker noise characteristic and channel hot carrier degradation of NMOSFETs with plasma nitrided oixde (PNO) and thermally nitrided oxide (TNO) are analyzed in depth. Compared with NMOSFET with TNO, flicker noise characteristic of NMOSFET with PNO is improved significantly because nitrogen density in PNO near the Si/$SiO_2$ interface is less than that in TNO. However, device degradation of NMOSFET with PNO by channel hot carrier stress is greater than that with TNO although PMOSFET with PNO showed greater immunity to NBTI degradation than that with TNO in previous study. Therefore, concurrent investigation of the reliability as well as low frequency noise characteristics of NMOSFET and PMOSFET is required for the development of high performance analog MOSFET technology.

  • A new water energy harvester module, which is composed of piezoelectric bimorph cantilevers, harvesting circuit and a shaft with 16 impellers at a center axis, was fabricated for energy harvesting application. High energy density $Pb(Zr_{0.54}Ti_{0.46})O_3$ + 0.2 wt% $Cr_2O_3$ + 1.0 wt% $Nb_2O_5$ (PZT-CN) thick film obtained by tape casting method was used for the bimorph cantilever. The PZT-CN bimorph cantilever with a proof mass of 49 g exhibited extremely high output power of 22.5 mW (24 $mW//cm^3$) at resonance frequency of 11 Hz. In addition, the fabricated water energy harvester has a cylindrical structure with 48 bimorph cantilevers clamped at inner surface. A significantly high output power of 433 mW was obtained at a rotation speed of 120 rpm with a resistive load of $500{\Omega}$ for the water energy harvester.

  • The purpose of this paper is to make research on the method of arbitration agreement, the adoption and contents of the Convention on the Use of Electronic Communications in International Contracts, and the standpoint and problem with reference to the new Convention's application to the method of arbitration agreement in New York Convention. Last year the UN General Assembly and UNCITRAL adopted a new Convention on the Use of Electronic Communications in International Contracts that makes agreements by electronic communications enforceable, including arbitration agreements under the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral A wards (New York Convention). Aimed at enhancing legal certainty and commercial predictability where electronic communications are used in relation to international contracts, the provisions of the Convention deal with, among other things, determining a party's location in an electronic environment; the time and place of dispatch and receipt of electronic communications; and the use of automated message systems for contract formation. Under the New York Convention, arbitration agreements in international contracts must be reduced to writing before they can be enforced. But under the new Convention, an arbitration agreement made entirely in electronic form would be enforceable. The working group expressed overall support in favor of the inclusion of a reference to the New York Convention in the new Convention. However, one proposal was that the exclusions provided under article 2 of the new Convention might be too broadly worded to adequately accommodate the New York Convention. In conclusion, Korea's government authorities should take prompt measures to sign and ratify the new Convention, and declare on the scope of its application. Also Korea's arbitration institute should make preparation for the amendment of the arbitration act and arbitration rules in accordance with the new Convention.

  • With the development of the Internet of Things, the use of flexible displays has become widespread. In particular, the use of curved, bendable, and rollable displays is increasing. Flexible display production processes include various important components such as lamination material, flexible substrates, and adhesives. Among them, improvement of the lamination process comprises a large proportion of efforts for further development. In this paper, we attempt to improve the transmittance of the display substrate by performing a bubble removal process after adhesion. The transmittance of the glass substrate with the bubble removal process was 5~12% higher than that of the substrate without the bubble removal process. The fill-strength after the bubble removal process was improved by 21.4%, and the shear-strength was improved by 43.9%.

  • An extensive investigation of the influence of gate engineering on the CNTFET switching, high frequency and circuit level performance has been carried out. At device level, the effects of gate engineering on the switching and high frequency characteristics for CNTFET have been theoretically investigated by using a quantum kinetic model. It is revealed that hetero - material - gate CNTFET(HMG - CNTFET) structure can significantly reduce leakage current, enhance control ability of the gate on channel, and is more suitable for use in low power and high frequency circuits. At circuit level, using the HSPICE with look - up table(LUT) based Verilog - A models, the performance parameters of circuits have been calculated and the optimum combinations of ${\Phi}_{M1}/{\Phi}_{M2}/{\Phi}_{M3}$ have been concluded in terms of power consumption, average delay, stability, energy consumption and power - delay product(PDP). We show that, compared to a traditional CNTFET - based circuit, the one based on HMG - CNTFET has a significantly better performance (SNM, energy, PDP). In addition, results also illustrate that HMG - CNTFET circuits have a consistent trend in delay, power, and PDP with respect to the transistor size, indicating that gate engineering of CNTFETs is a promising technology. Our results may be useful for designing and optimizing CNTFET devices and circuits.

  • EBKS(Electronic Book of Korea Standard) 1.0 which was established in July 2001 passed the industry standard deliberation of agency for technology and standards of Korea industry in July 2002. EBKS is now established as KS X6100 representing the Korea standard of electronic book of Korea. Therefore, Conformance test and certification procedure is required whether electronic books and documents which follow KS X 6100 are conform to specification of the standard. In the paper, we define conformance clause which is a basis for conformance test and standard electronic book schema. As a result, electronic book writers can produce more conformable documents to the specification and goal of electronic book standard by using the conformance clause, and service provider can effectively perform the conformance test by using standard electronic book schema.

  • Thin thermistor films of solutions with nickel and manganese oxides were prepared by metal-organic decomposition (MOD). The structural properties of the thin films were investigated as a function of annealing temperature. Field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) results indicated that the thin films had a thin thickness, smooth and dense surface. The crystallization temperature of $414.9^{\circ}C$ was confirmed from thermogavimetric-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA) curve. A single phase of cubic spinel structure was obtained for the thin film annealed from $700^{\circ}C$ to $800^{\circ}C$, which was confirmed from the X-ray diffraction (XRD). From the selected area electron diffraction (SAED) in high resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM), the nano grains (2~3 nm) of spinel phase with (311) and (222) planes were detected for the thin film annealed at $500^{\circ}C$, which could be applicable to read-out integrated circuit (ROIC) substrate of the uncooled microbolometer with low processing temperature.
