  • This study is to perform economic analysis of a PVT-GSHP (Photovoltaic Thermal-Ground Source Heat Pump) system compared to the conventional system which consists of a boiler and a chiller. This research has simulated, developed and analyzed four systems for application in a residential and an office building which was based on the hourly EPI (Energy Performance Index, $kWh/m^2yr$). Case 1 includes a boiler and a chiller to meet heating and cooling demands for a house. Case 2 is the same conventional system as Case 1 for a office. Case 3 is simple summation of Case 1 and 2. And Case 4 is utilizing a PVT-GSHP to meet the combined loads of the house and office. The economic evaluation study was based on IEA ECBCS Annex 54 subtasks C economic assessment methods. This study indicated that PVT-GSHP system can save a building's energy up to 53.9%. Also the SPB (Simple Payback) of the PVT-GSHP system with 0%, 50% initial incentive was 14.5, 6.7 year respectively.

  • IMO adopted ' International Convention for The Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments ' on February 13th 2004. According to this convention, a ballast water treatment system should be installed in all ships obligatorily up to a standard date. When the system is installed, economic propriety should be considered. The economic propriety analysis examines the profit of a relevant project which can be presented by a equation, (Profit) = (income) - (expense) - (tax). However, the ballast water system is not for the profit during the life cycle but for the satisfaction of the regulation. Therefore, the expense should be minimum against the profit. This study presents the LCC(Life-Cycle Cost) analysis for economic evaluation of several ballast water system of foreign products.

  • An integrated water environment management system is necessary in improving water quality, properly allocating water resources, and supporting socio-economic development. Specifically, water quality management system using web map can be an efficient approach to accomplish this system. This paper aims to construct a dynamic water quality management system to reflect a water environment management system which includes three sub-models with consideration of their interrelationships (a socio-economic model based on dynamic Input-Output model, a water resources cycle model, and a water pollutants flow model). Based on simulation, the model can precisely estimate trends of water utilization, water quality, and economic development under certain management targets, and propose an optimal plan. This study utilized the model to analyze the potential of using reclaimed water to accomplish local water environment management and sustainable development plan while exploring the applicable approaches. This study indicates that the constructed water environment management system can be effective and easily adopted to assess water resources and environment while improving the trade-off between economic and environment development, as well as formulate regional development plan.

  • Attention on daylighting should be focused not so much on a simple maximization of the natural light available in a space, as on improving the quality of lighting by ensuring as even but intense distribution of illumination in inner areas. An architectural means of optimal daylight distribution is by using so-called light shelf systems, horizontal shading and redirecting devices. The overall performance of the daylighting system can be improved by the incorporation with electric lighting control devices. This paper aims to exemplify the benefit of daylighting in term of economic consideration. In such a case a reasonable technique to compare system costs is by life-cycle costing. Stated simply, a life-cycle cost represents the total cost of a system over its entire life cycle, that is, the sum of first cost and all future costs. Four different electric lighting system designs are proposed and a lighting control system that is continuously operating according to the level of daylight in the space has been adapted. The result shows clearly that although denser layout of lighting fixtures might be more effective to interface to the level of daylight ceaselessly changeable, its economic benefit may not meet the expected criterion the reason of increased initial investment and maintenance cost for the fixtures and control devices.

  • Economic benefits of the dry bottom ash handling system over the wet bottom ash handling system in a new 500MW${\times}$2units pulverized coal thermal power plant in Korea were evaluated. The higher initial capital cost in the dry bottom ash handling system was estimated. However, this higher initial capital costs would be compensated with reductions of the operating cost mainly due to the recycling of bottom ash. Economic analysis showed that the payback period of 4.9 years and the internal rate of return at 21.1% were expected for the additional initial capital cost of the dry bottom ash handling system.

  • As port competitiveness is becoming more important in the global market environment RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) Is also becoming a crucial enabler In implement efficient visible, secure and productive ports. However there Is a lack of practical validated RFID technology acceptance cases in the port logistics industry until now, even though various related projects have been undertaken. In this study, we applied 13.56MHz passive RFID readers, tags, and their applications into existing bar-code based gate systems to improve the port logistics process, and we analyzed results of a pilot test in economic and non-economic perspectives. The main purpose of this study is to develop the RFID based automatic gate passing system in container terminals, and is to validate its economic and non-economic feasibility. In order to accomplish the purpose of this study, first, we examined previous researches on RFID technology acceptance in the port logistics industry, second, we Identified and analyzed the business process of existing gate systems in container terminals, third, we build RFID gate systems with 13.56Mhz tags, readers, and its middle-ware, finally we tested the system and its performance. The results were successful and showed the feasibility of the system in real container terminal gates. Economic and non-economic contribution was confirmed. Although the system has technological limitations with short range passive type, we clearly identified its potential capability and its economic validity in the field, which are the implications of this study.

  • This research targeted discussions on re-utilization of Korean creative economic innovation center. It is meaningless to simply discuss its re-organization. The focus of this study was to find a way that transforms it into totally new one. The study followed several steps. First, it delineated criteria from existing literature for comparing creative eco-system of Silicon valley, Kyoto eco-system and eco-system based on Korean creative economic innovation center. Second, it compared the three eco-systems in details. Third, it discussed a direction for transforming eco-system based on Korean creative economic innovation center. It was suggested that the Kyoto eco-system can be a role model. It was also suggested that governmental role should be changed from controller to facilitatior which stimulates regulation relaxations and helps to establish market formation.

  • The purpose of this study is about the installation process and managing system of Economic Development District installed in order to make economic and local development by introducing foreign investment, technology and managing methods after the reformation of China. The Economic Development District of China is being continuously enlarged in its quantity and form as the local opening is being enlarged, and so that it is leading the systematic change of open district and is being developed as a core part of local economic growth. The central and local governments used to mediate and control the fostering of Economic Development Districts in their initial stage. However, the economic and business activities in Economic Development Districts are controlled by the capitalistic market forces now, and the control of central and local governments are being reduced to the minimum and the autonomy of the administrative commission is being reinforced for the efficiency of Economic Development District.
