The purpose of the study is to provide basic data for the management of individual exposure and the monitoring of natural radiation dose using D-Shuttle dosimeter (Chiyoda Technol Corporation, Tokyo, Japan). The dose was calculated using D-Shuttle dosimeter. The dose was 1.346 mSv when exposed for 400 days, the annual dose per year was 1.228 mSv/year and the average dose per hour was $0.014{\mu}Sv/hr$. Domestic individual external dose (1.295 mSv/year = Korea average natural individual external dose) and domestic additional dose per year is -0.0663 mSv/year. D-Shuttle is a personal dosimeter for radiation monitoring. It can be used as a very useful dosimeter for ALARA because of its excellent detection capability of radiation, real-time radiation exposure management, alarm function of radiation work, and efficient and easy to use personal radiation dose management.. Radiation monitoring equipment for radiation workers and local residents can be used for radiation monitoring in hospitals, industry, medical sites, nuclear accident areas and hazardous areas in non-destructive areas.
Background: We are developing a small size dosimeter for dose estimation in particle therapies. The developed dosimeter is an optical fiber based dosimeter mounting an radiation induced luminescence material, such as an OSL or a scintillator, at a tip. These materials generally suffer from the quenching effect under high LET particle irradiation. Materials and Methods: We fabricated two types of the small size dosimeters. They used an OSL material Eu:BaFBr and a BGO scintillator. Carbon ions were irradiated into the fabricated dosimeters at Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba (HIMAC). The small size dosimeters were set behind the water equivalent acrylic phantom. Bragg peak was observed by changing the phantom thickness. An ion chamber was also placed near the small size dosimeters as a reference. Results and Discussion: Eu:BaFBr and BGO dosimeters showed a Bragg peak at the same thickness as the ion chamber. Under high LET particle irradiation, the response of the luminescence-based small size dosimeters deteriorated compared with that of the ion chamber due to the quenching effect. We confirmed the luminescence efficiency of Eu:BaFBr and BGO decrease with the LET. The reduction coefficient of luminescence efficiency was different between the BGO and the Eu:BaFBr. The LET can be determined from the luminescence ratio between Eu:BaFBr and BGO, and the dosimeter response can be corrected. Conclusion: We evaluated the LET dependence of the luminescence efficiency of the BGO and Eu:BaFBr as the quenching effect. We propose and discuss the correction of the quenching effect using the signal intensity ratio of the both materials. Although the correction precision is not sufficient, feasibility of the proposed correction method is proved through basic experiments.
In radiation brachytherapy, the wrong source location may cause excessive dose to normal tissue. Therefore, research on digital dosimeters is being made to replace the analog detection method. Therefore, in this study, a lead (II) oxide (PbO) dosimeter applied with a passive layer (PL) was fabricated as a basic study to improve the dosimeter performance. Afterwards, reproducibility, linearity, and distance dependence were evaluated to analyze the performance of the Ir-192 source under irradiation conditions. The reproducibility of the PL-PbO dosimeter was 0.40%, which satisfies the evaluation criteria of 1.5%, and showed improved results compared to the PbO dosimeter. Linear function R2 showed excellent results as 0.9995, and slope analysis through regression analysis of the linear function was excellent in PL-PbO. The distance dependence of the PL-PbO dosimeter was +0.599 higher than that of PbO when the slope obtained through regression analysis of the power function was compared with the inverse square value. This study presents the effects and measurement variables according to the measurement configuration of the solid-state dosimeter, and can be used in various radiation detection fields.
In Korean nuclear power plants (NPPs), two thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLD) were provided to workers who work in an inhomogeneous radiation field; one on the chest and the other on the head. In this way, the effective dose for radiation workers at NPPs was determined by the high deep dose between two radiation dose from these TLDs. This represented a conservative method of evaluating the degree of exposure to radiation. In this study, to prevent the overestimation of the effective dose, field application experiments were implemented using two-dosimeter algorithms developed by several international institutes for the selection of an optimal algorithm. The algorithms used by the Canadian Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and American ANSI HPS N13.41, NCRP (55/50), NCRP (70/30), EPRI (NRC), Lakslumanan, and Kim (Texas A&M University) were extensively analyzed as two-dosimeter algorithms. In particular, three additional TLDs were provided to radiation workers who wore them on the head, chest, and back during maintenance periods, and the measured value were analyzed. The results found no significant differences among the calculated effective doses, apart from Lakshmanan's algorithm. Thus, this paper recommends the NCRP(55/50) algorithm as an optimal two-dosimeter algorithm in consideration of the solid technical background of NCRP and the convenience of radiation works. In addition, it was determined that a two-dosimeter is provided to a single task which is expected to produce a dose rate of more than 1 mSv/hr, a difference of dose rates depending on specific parts of the body of more than 30%, and an exposure dose of more than 2 mSv.
The purpose of this study was to measure the skin dose using the glass dosimeter and diode and to compare those measurements to the planned skin dose from the treatment planning system. For the reproducibility of the glass dosimeter (ASAHI TECHNO GLASS CIRPORATION, Japan), the same dose was irradiated to 40 glass dosimeters three times, among which 28 with the reproducibility within 3% were selected for the use of this study. For each of 27 breast cancer patients, the glass dosimeters and diodes were attached to 4 different locations on the skin to measure the dose during treatment. All the patients received one fraction of 180 cGy each. The maximum difference of measurements between the glass dosimeter and diode at the same location was 3.2%. Comparing with the planned skin dose from the treatment planning system (Eclipse v6.5, Varian, USA), the dose measured by the glass dosimeter and the diodeshowed on an average 3.4% and 2.3% difference, respectively. The measured doses were always less than the planned skin dose. This may be due to the specific errors of both detectors. Also, the difference may be caused by the fact that since the skin where the detectors were attached is pretty moveable, it was not fix the detectors on the skin.
This study was evaluated the linearity and reproducibility according to dose, and reproducibility according to delay time by changing tube current amount (5 mAs, 10 mAs, 16 mAs, 20 mAs, 25 mAs, 32 mAs respectively, which are low energy radiations) using Glass Dosimeter (GD) and piranha semiconductor dosimeter which are used for measuring exposure dose. Measurements of radiation dose were performed using external detector of piranha 657 which is multi-function QA device (RTI Electronic, Sweden). Conditions of measurement were 80 kVp, SSD 100 cm and exposure region is $10cm{\times}10cm$. Glass dosimeter was exposed to radiation. Twenty-four glass dosimeters were divided into six groups (5 mAs, 10 mAs, 16 mAs, 20 mAs, 25 mAs, 32 mAs respectively), then measured. This study was resulted by measuring the linearity and reproducibility according to change of tube current in low energy field. In dose characteristic of GD, this study could be useful as previous study with regard to dose characteristic according to change of tube voltage in low energy field.
A single-dosimeter worn on the anterior surface of body of a worker was found to provide significant underestimation of dose to the worker when radiation comes from behind of the human body. Recently, several researchers suggested that this kind of underestimation can be corrected to a certain extent by using an extra dosimeter on the back. But this multiple dosimetry also has the disadvantages like overestimation lowering work efficiency or cost burden. In this study, a single dosimeter introducing asymmetric filters enabled to identify PA exposure was designed by monte-carlo simulation and experiments and its dose evaluation algorithm for AP-PA mixed radiation field was established. This algorithm was applicable to penetrating radiation which had the effective energy more than 100 keV. Besides, the dosimeter and algorithm in this study were possible to be applied to near PA exposure.

In this study, we have fabricated a scintillating fiber-optic dosimeter for a radiotherapy dosimetry. And ${\gamma}$-rays generated by a Co-60 are measured using a scintillating fiber-optic dosimeter and percent depth dose curves are obtained according to the different depths of solid water phantoms. Also, Cerenkov radiations generated by primary or secondary electrons are measured at different depths of water phantom using a background optical fiber.
By using the buildup characteristics of the radiophotoluminescence glass dosimeter(RPLGD), it is aimed to help the measurement of the accurate dose by measuring the radiation dose according to the time of the glass element. Five glass elements were arranged on the table and the source to image receptor distance(SID) was set to 100 cm for the build-up radiation dose measurement of the fluorescent glass dosimeter glass element(GD-352M). Radiation doses and saturation rates were measured over time according to irradiation time, with the tube voltage (30, 60, 90 kVp) and tube current (50, 100 mAs) Repeatability test was repeated ten times to measure the coefficient of variation. The radiation dose increased from 0.182 mGy to 12.902 mGy and the saturation rate increased from 58.3% with increasing exposure condition and time. The coefficient of variation of the glass elements of the fluorescent glass dosimeter was ranged from 0.2 to 0.77 according to the X - ray exposure conditions. X - ray exposure showed that the radiation dose and saturation rate were increased with buildup characteristics, and degeneration of glass elements was not observed. The reproducibility of the variation coefficient of the radiation generator was included within the error range and the reproducibility of the radiation dose was excellent.
In exposuring x-rays, we can adjust three variables of kVp, mA and sec. The kVp is one of main factors affecting x-ray quality -peneterability. And miliampere-seconds is directly proportional to x-ray quantity. In this paper, we detected voltage variation of CdS, II-VI group semiconductor compounds, by kVp as the fundamental experiments of designing x-ray dosimeter. We exposured x-ray on the material from 40 to 100 kVp by increasing 2kVp using Shimadazu TH-500-125 Radio-Tex cx-s x-ray machine. We fixed miliampere -seconds to 100mA and 0.2 sec. After acquiring the raw data, we plotted the graph of kVp and voltage variation and figured slope value of 0.093 by regression. The standard deviation of voltage to kVp was 0.22. For the future study, the mAs variation study will be needed to investigate the connections between kVp and mAs in order to design x-ray dosimeter.
