  • For assessing the capability of a process, the quantification of process location and variation is central to understanding the quality of units produced from the manufacturing process. Conventional process capability indices is insufficient to drive out the information for process condition, furthermore it is very difficult to evaluate the process capability accurately when the target value is not consistent with the center of specification, and/or the shape of distribution is changed, but the process incapability indices is enable to provide more detailed information to evaluate the process capability by dividing information about the process mean and variance. In this paper, we have a brief review and comparison about these indices, provide an understanding of the relationships between the process capability indices and the incapability indices. And we explore the strengths and weakness of these indices as they apply to normally distributed process, and to examine the effect that non-normality has on these indices.

  • This paper considers the problem of optimally choosing the sub-process means of a mixture production process where two important ingredients are mixed. The quantity of each ingredient is controlled through each corresponding sub-process. The values of the sub-process mean directly affect the defective rate, production, scrap and reprocessing costs for the mixture production process. After inspecting every incoming item, each conforming item is sold in a regular market for a fixed price and any nonconforming item is scraped. A model is constructed on the basis of the selling price, production, inspection, and scrap and reprocessing costs. The goal is to determine the optimum sub-process mean values based on maximizing expected profit function relating selling price and cost components. A method of finding the optimum sub-process means is presented when the quantities of the two ingredients are assumed to be normally distributed with known variances. A numerical example is given and numerical studies are performed.

  • We handle the stochastic processes of independent and identically distributed random variables. But random variables are usually dependent among themselves in actual life. So in this paper, we find out a new process not satisfying Markov property. We investigate the probability mass functions and study on the probability of the first-passage time. Also we find out the average frequency of continuous successes in from 0 to n time.

  • Let N denote the set of positive integers. Fix $d_1, d_2 \in N with d = d_1 + d_2$. Let X and Y be real random variables and let ${X_i : i \in N^d_1} and {Y_j : j \in N^d_2}$ be independent families of independent identically distributed random variables with $L(X) = L(X_i) and L(Y) = L(Y_j)$, where $L(\cdot)$ denote the law of $\cdot$.

  • The problem of selecting the optimal target values in a canning process is considered for situations where there is a linear shift in the mean of the content of a can which is assumed to be normally distributed with known variance. The target values are initial process mean, length of resetting cycle and controllable upper limit. Profit models are constructed which involve give-away, rework, and resetting costs. Methods of finding the optimal target values are presented and a nemerical example is given.

  • This paper proposes a method of designing one-sided cumulative scored control charts to control the process mean with a normally distributed quality characteristic. The average run length(ARL) is obtained from the average sample number of sequential probability ratio test(SPRT) on trinomial distribution. Using the analogy between cumulative scored control chart and SPRT for trinomial observations, a procedure is presented to determine three control chart parameters; lower and u, pp.r scoring boundaries and action limit. The parameters are determined by minimizing the ARL when the process is out of control with prespecified ARL when the process is in control.

  • The effective thermoelastic properties of porous metals are discussed herein after each material forming process such as hot pressing or extrusion. The voids in metal matrix are assumed to be initially spherical in shape and to be distributed randomly. Once the porous material deforms plastically due to each material forming process, the voids change their shape from a sphere to an ellipsoid and align in one direction. Since the voids are compressible in nature, the void volume fraction is assumed to be decreasing during each material forming process.

  • The main objectives of this dissertation is to propose a forth generation index C for the case where the target value T is not equal to the midpoint of the specification limits (i.e. asymmetric tolerances), and show that this index is more sensitive compared to the standard PCI's in detacting small shifts of the process mean from the target value. In conclusion, in this dissertation , a new methods for estimating a measure of process capability for non-normally distributed variable data is proposed using the percentage nonconforming.

  • Standard acceptance sampling plans models the production pricess as a sequence of independent identically distributed Beruoulli random variables. However, the quality of items sampled sequentially from an ongoing production process of ten exhibits statistical dependency that is not accounted for in standard acceptance sampling plans. In this paper, a dependent production process is modelled as an ARMA process and as a two-state Markov chain. A simulation study of each is performed. A comparison of the probability of acceptance is done for the simulation method and for the approximation method.
