  • We investigate the existence of multiple nontrivial solutions (${\xi}$, ${\eta}$) for perturbations $g_1$, $g_2$ of the harmonic system with Dirichlet boundary condition $${\Delta}^2{\xi}+c{\Delta}{\xi}=g_1(2{\xi}+3{\eta})\;in\;{\Omega}\\{\Delta}^2{\eta}+c{\Delta}{\eta}=g_2(2{\xi}+3{\eta})\;in\;{\Omega}$$ where we assume that ${\lambda}_1$ < $c$ < ${\lambda}_2$, $g^{\prime}_1({\infty})$, $g^{\prime}_2({\infty})$ are finite. We prove that the system has at least three solutions under some condition on $g$.

  • This paper is devoted to the point wise error estimate up to boundary for the standard finite element solution of Poisson equation with Dirichlet boundary condition. Our new approach used the discrete maximum principle for the discrete harmonic solution. once the mesh in our domain satisfies the $\beta$-condition defined by us, the discrete harmonic solution with dirichlet boundary condition has the discrete maximum principle and the pointwise error should be bounded by L-errors newly obtained.

  • A full multigrid scheme was used in computing some eigenvalues of the Laplace eigenvalues problem with the Dirichlet bound-ary condition. We get a system of algebraic equations with an aid of finite difference method and apply subspace iteration method to the system to compute first some eigenvalues. The result shows that this is very effective in calculating some eigenvalues of this problem.

  • We consider the boundary value problem with a Dirichlet condition for a second order linear uniformly elliptic operator in a non-divergence form. We study some properties of a barrier at infinity which was introduced by Meyers and Serrin to investigate a solution in an exterior domains. Also, we construct a modified barrier for more general domain than an exterior domain.

  • Ghosh and Ramamoorthi (1996) studied the posterior consistency for survival models and showed that the posterior was consistent, when the prior on the distribution of survival times was the Dirichlet process prior. In this paper, we study the posterior consistency of survival models with neutral to the right process priors which include Dirichlet process priors. A set of sufficient conditions for the posterior consistency with neutral to the right process priors are given. Interestingly, not all the neutral to the right process priors have consistent posteriors, but most of the popular priors such as Dirichlet processes, beta processes and gamma processes have consistent posteriors. For extended beta processes, a necessary and sufficient condition for the consistency is also established.

  • Let ${\alpha}$ > 0 be a real number and $(s_{\alpha}(n))_{n{\geq}1}$ be the lexicographically greatest Sturmian word of slope ${\alpha}$. We investigate Dirichlet series of the form ${\sum}^{\infty}_{n=1}s_{\alpha}(n)n^{-s}$. To do this, a generalization of Euler's totient function is required. For a real ${\alpha}$ > 0 and a positive integer n, an arithmetic function ${\varphi}{\alpha}(n)$ is defined to be the number of positive integers m for which gcd(m, n) = 1 and 0 < m/n < ${\alpha}$. Under a condition Re(s) > 1, this paper establishes an identity ${\sum}^{\infty}_{n=1}s_{\alpha}(n)n^{-S}=1+{\sum}^{\infty}_{n=1}{\varphi}_{\alpha}(n)({\zeta}(s)-{\zeta}(s,1+n^{-1}))n^{-s}$.

  • Let Yp be the multiplication operator Mp plus the Volterra operator Vp induced by p(z), where p is a polynomial. Under a mild condition, we prove that Yp acting on the Dirichlet space 𝔇 is similar to multiplication operator Mp acting on a subspace S(𝔻) of 𝔇. Furthermore, it shows that Tzn (n ≥ 2) has exactly 2n reducing subspaces on 𝔇.

  • We investigate the existence of solutions of the nonlinear beam equation under the Dirichlet boundary condition on the interval $-\frac{2}{\pi}, \frac{2}{\pi}$ and periodic condition on the varible t, $Lu + bu^+ -au^- = f(x, t)$, when the jumping nonlinearity crosses the first positive eigenvalue.
