Purpose: This study was conducted to verify the effects of self-esteem and critical thinking disposition on dental laboratory technology students' field practice stress. Methods: The subjects of the study were 198 dental laboratory technology students with clinical practice experience located in Gyeongsangbuk-do and Gyeongsangnam-do. The collected data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and linear regression analysis using IBM SPSS Statistics ver. 22.0 (IBM). Results: The average self-esteem, critical thinking disposition, and field practice stress scores were 3.76, 3.50, and 2.40, respectively. There was a significant correlation between self-esteem, critical thinking disposition, and field practice stress. It was found that the higher the self-esteem, the lower was the field practice stress. On the contrary, among the sub-items of critical thinking disposition, when intellectual fairness increased, the field practice stress decreased; however, when healthy skepticism increased, the field practice stress increased. Conclusion: Self-esteem and critical thinking disposition were both found to have a substantial effect on field practice stress. Therefore, various educational programs need to increase self-esteem and cultivate critical thinking skills for a successful field practice and field practice stress relief of laboratory technology students.
This study was carried out to understand the influence of dental technicians' image and major satisfaction on dental technology students' dropout intention. A questionnaire survey was administered to 273 students in the Department of Dental Technology. Frequency analysis, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis were performed. The results are as follows: The image of dental technicians differed significantly depending on factors such as school year, personality, whether a family member is a dental technician or not, reason for choosing a department, difficulty in one's own academic life, and disciplinary life adaptation (p<0.05). The image of dental technicians was seen to be positively perceived when the respondent had an affirmative personality, or had a dental technician among family members or chose the department for its uniqueness, or found no difficulty in academic life, and adapted well to a situational or environmental change. Major satisfaction of dental technicians was seen a meaningful difference in items such as school year, personality, awareness of dental technicians, reason for choosing a department, the difficulty in own academic life, and the disciplinary life adaptation (p<0.05). Individuals with high major satisfaction and low dropout intention included those with a positive personality, who think affirmatively about dental technicians, who chose a department owing to suiting the aptitude and interest or to the uniqueness of the major. The influential factors on dropout intention included general satisfaction out of major satisfaction, perspective and self-confident image among dental technicians, and an awareness of dental technicians. The establishment of a desirable image of dental technicians and the improvement in major satisfaction are considered likely to contribute to reducing the dropout intention of dental technology students.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the career barriers of students studying dental technology in D-College. Methods: This study targeted 490 college students studying Dental Technology in D-College. In the sub factors of career barriers, differences exist depending on and in order of gender, serving military service, experience studying one more year to enter the college, day and night, the affiliation of highschool graduated from, and hometown. The correlation between the sub factors of career barriers and perception of career barriers manifested 'Lack of self assurance'(0.84), 'Sense of physical inferiority'(0.76), 'Relationship with other important people'(0.73) and 'Lack of information on occupation' in order. Conclusion: In the factors affecting non-decision on the career, 'Lack of self assurance'(=0.2465) is the highest in terms of influence, followed by 'Difficulty in interpersonal relations’(=0.1801) and 'Lack of information on occupation' (=0.1391).
Purpose: This study aimed to explore methods to improve the quality recognition and satisfaction level of non-face-to-face lectures among students in the departments of dental technology and dental hygiene. Methods: This survey was conducted to assess the status and preference of non-face-to-face lectures and the level of awareness and satisfaction regarding the quality of these lectures among 179 students of dental technology and 295 students of dental hygiene. Statistical analyses were performed using frequency analysis, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA (post-hoc Duncan), Welch analysis (post-hoc Games-Howell), and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Results: Factors that affected the ability to assess the quality of non-face-to-face lectures were the department, the method of non-face-to-face lectures, the most preferred method for conducting lectures, the level of awareness regarding the quality of face-to-face lecture, and satisfaction level. It has 71.5% explanatory power. Moreover, factors that influenced the satisfaction level of non-face-to-face lectures included the department, grade, the highest satisfied non-face-to-face teaching method, the most effective theoretical non-face-to-face teaching method, the most preferred teaching methods, and the ability to assess quality of face-to-face lectures. It has 46.8% explanatory power. Conclusion: Non-face-to-face classes should be designed and developed for web-based programs to improve the motivation and achievement level of the students and encourage interaction between the professors and students. Our findings suggest that educators should strive to achieve optimal educational effects by efficiently combining face-to-face and non-face-to-face lectures.
Purpose: This experiment aims to provide the fundamental resources in developing a programme intended to prevent students from dropping out of their academics by promoting students to develop an optimistic psychological state, through analysis of the factors that influence students' commitment to their major. Methods: A self-administered questionnaire was conducted from $19^{th}$ of November of the year 2018, till $1^{st}$ of December of the same year, with dental technology students located in W city as the subject. 261(93.2%) of the participants' responses were used for the final analysis. Results: A negative association between factors of commitment to major and factors of academic dropout decision were portrayed to be of statistical significance (p<.01), and factors of commitment to major that influence dropping out of their academics were shown to be that of 'autotelic experience' (p<.001) with a negative ( - ) relationship, and 'change in a sense of time' (p<.01) with a positive ( + ) relationship of statistical significance, while the explanatory power of the model was shown to be 33.6%. Conclusion: In order to prevent dental technology students from dropping out of their academics, following their entrance, To achieve this, the department must consider the implementation of, aside from subject matters of the major, other various extra-curricular programmes, and programmes in which the supervisor is consistently providing consultations that are tailored to each individual student.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effect of ego resilience and problem-solving ability on career identity. Methods: An online survey targeting dental technology students was conducted, and the responses of 206 students were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics ver. 21.0 (IBM). Descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA (Duncan post-hoc analysis), and multiple regression analysis were performed.
