The Effects of Flutamide and Diethylstilbestrol Exposure on the Reproductive Organs and Thyroid of Male Rats by the Rodent 20-day Thyroid/Pubertal Assay

  • To establish a test protocol for the rodent 20-day thyroid/pubertal assay, flutamide and diethylstilbestrol (DES) were administered to intact male Sprague-Dawley rats from postnatal day 33 for 20 days. Flutamide (1, 5, and 25 mg/kg/day) or DES (10, 20, and 40 ug/kg/day) was given once daily by oral gavage to immature male rats. Prepuce separation was significantly delayed in flutamide group and in DES group. One day after the last dose, the rats were killed and pituitary, thyroid, and reproductive organs were removed and weighed. Flutamide treatment resulted in a significant reduction in the weights of epididymides, ventral prostate, seminal vesicles plus coagulating glands and fluid (SVCGF), levator ani. bulbocarvenus muscles (LABC), Cowper's glands, and glans penis. The weight of adrenal glands decreased at % mg/kg/day, while testes and any other organ weights were unaffected. No microscopic changes were observed in the thyroid glands. Serum levels of testosterone wert significantly increased in the flutamide-treated groups and serum levels of estradiol were also increased. A significant reduction in the weights of testes, epididymides, ventral prostate, SVCGF, LABC, Cowpers glands, and glans penis of DES treated group. Serum testosterone and LH decreased significantly in DES group. Decrease of estradiol was observed, but not significant. These results indicate that flutamide and DES delay puberty in the male rat and its mode of action appears to be via altered secretion of steroids, which subsequently affect the development of the reproductive tract.   • In this paper, we analyze mathematically the performance of the gated service scheduling in the Interleaved Polling with Adaptive Cycle Time(IPACT) was proposed to control upstream traffic for Gigabit Ethernet-PONs. In the analysis, we model EPON MAC protocol as a polling system and use mean value analysis. We divide arrival rate λ into three regions and analyze each region accordingly In the first region in which λ value is very small, there are very few ONUs' data to be transmitted. In the second region in which λ has reasonably large value, ONUs have enough data for continuous transmission. In the third region, ONUs' buffers are always saturated with data since λ value is very large. We obtain average packet delay, average Queue size, average cycle time of the gated service. We compare analysis results with simulation to verify the accuracy of the mathematical analysis. Simulation requires much time and effort to evaluate the performance of EPONs. On the other hand, mathematical analysis can be widely used in the design of EPON systems because system designers can obtain various performance results rapidly. We can design appropriate EPON systems for varioustraffic property by adjusting control parameters.

Performance of active PNC Handover and PNC Heart Beat based Beacon Alignment Schemes for Wireless PAN Systems (WPAN에서의 신속한 망 복구를 위한 능동적인 PNC 핸드오버방법 및 PNC Heart Beat 의 비컨 프레임 정렬 방식의 성능분석)

  • For the legacy IEEE 802.15.3 WPAN protocol, an unpredictable piconet coordinator(PNC) leaving from a piconet without a proper handoff procedure causes an absence of PNC, and thus the piconet gets collapsed. In addition, several beacons from PNCs in adjacent piconets may be collided on a device(DEV) located between those piconets. This beacon collision eventually makes the DEV leave from the piconet. To remedy these two problems, we here propose an Active Seamless Coordinator Switching(ASCS) scheme and a PNC HB based Beacon Alignment(PHBA) one. In the ASCS scheme, a PNC assigns a number of DEVs as next possible PNCs in sequence for provisioning against the abrupt breakdown of the current active PNC. Each nominated DEV proactively sends a probe frame to confirm the operation status of the active PNC. For the case of no response from the PNC, the nominated DEV tries to become a new PNC immediately. In the second PHBA scheme, each PNC is allow to broadcast a special Heart Beat(HB) frame randomly during a superframe period. When a DEV receives a HB frame from other PNC, it promptly sends the related PNCs a special Hiccup Beat(HCB) frame with the superframe information of its associated PNC. As a result, the HCB frame makes both PNCs align their superframe beginning time in order to yield no more beacon collisions. For these two proposed schemes, we show the performance by simulations. We can confirm the enhancement of throughput for each superframe and average frame transfer delay, since each scheme can reduce the duration of piconet collapse. Finally, it is worth while to note that the proposed schemes can be operated with frames those are permitted in the legacy WPAN standard.

  • This paper studied and introduced the aviation law cases in applying the treaties of the Warsaw System to the liability of the international air carrier by categorizing four main sections. Firstly, this paper handled the cases regarding the defining an international flight, exclusivity of the treaties as international air carrie's liability Convention, determining treaty relationship between the countries which one country has ratified only the Hague Protocol, an amended version of the Warsaw Convention, while the other has ratified only the original, unamended Warsaw Convention. Annotation assisted the case if it needed. Secondly, the cases relating to the issues of actual and contracting carrier, successive carrier, agents and servants of the carrier and others were studied. Thirdly, the issues relating to the accident in the course of any operations of embarking or disembarking of passengers, the occurrence during the transportation by air of baggage or goods and delay in the transportation by air of passengers, baggage or goods in addition to the cancellation of the flights were studied according to the applicable range. Fourthly, I studied the time issue with effective date of the treaties. Conclusively, it is not excessive to emphasize the importance of cases in Aviation Law like all other legal areas, therefore, a full-dress future reaserch of aviation cases is expected in here Korea with this paper as a foundation although it studied and introduced only a part of numerous aviation law cases.

Performance of an Authentication Proxy for Port Based Security Systems (포트레벨 보안을 위한 인증 프록시 시스템의 성능분석)

  • In this paper, we present an efficient authentication proxy for IEEE 802.1x systems based on the port-based access control mechanism. An IEEE 802.1x system consists of PC supplicants, a bridge with authentication client functions, and an authentication server. For the network security and user authentication purposes, a supplicant who wants to access Internet should be authorized to access the bridge port using the Extended Authentication Protocol (EAP) over LAN. The frame of EAP over LAN is then relayed to the authentication server by the bridge. After several transactions between the supplicant and the server via the bridge, the supplicant may be either authorized or not. Noting that the transactions between the relaying bridge and the server will be increased as the number of supplicants grows in public networks, we propose a scheme for reducing the transactions by employing an authentication proxy function at the bridge. The proxy is allowed to cache the supplicant's user ID and password during his first transaction with the server. For the next authentication procedure of the same supplicant, the proxy function of the bridge handles the authentication transactions using its cache on behalf of the authentication server. Since the main authentication server handles only the first authentication transaction of each supplicant, the processing load of the server can be reduced. Also, the authentication transaction delay experienced by a supplicant can be decreased compared with the conventional 802.1x system.

  • Power Line Communication(PLC) is need not additional communication line. So establishment expense is inexpensive and application is simple. Therefore, lower part network of various application field is possible. However, there are high subordinate interference and noise problem on limited transmission data and communication interference element. Wireless Sensor Network(WSN) is need not infrastructure, Self-regulating network architecture of sensor nodes is possible. So at short time, network construction is available. But, power consumption is increased by active sensing for QoS elevation and unnecessary information transmission, low electric power design and necessity of improve protocol are refered to life shortening problem and is studied. In this paper, supplement problem of power line communication and wireless sensor network mutually and because advantage becomes linkage integration control system using synergy effect of two technologies as more restriction be and tries to approach structurally control network that is improved for smooth network environment construction. Honeywell's hybrid sensor network does comparative analysis(benchmarking). Confirm performance elevation proposing teaming of power line communication and wireless sensor network. Through simulation, service delay decreases and confirms that performance elevation.

  • The growth of mobile devices in Internet of Things (IoT) leads to a number of intelligent buildings related IoT applications. For instance, home automation controlling system uses client system such web apps on smartphone or web service to access the home server by sending control commands. The home server receives the command, then controls for instance the light system. The gateway based RESTful technology responsible for handling clients' requests attests an internet latency in case a large number of clients' requests submit toward the gateway increases. In this paper, we propose the design tasks of the IoT gateway for handling concurrency events. In the procedure of designing tasks, concurrency is best understood by employing multiple levels of abstraction. The way that is eminently to accomplish concurrency is to build an object-oriented environment with support for messages passing between concurrent objects. We also investigate the performance of event-driven architecture for building IoT gateway using node.js on one side and communication protocol based message-oriented middleware known as XMPP to handle communications of intelligent building control devices connected to the gateway through a centralized hub. The Node.JS is 40% faster than the traditional web server side features thread-based approach. The use of Node.js server-side handles a large number of clients' requests, then therefore, reduces delay in performing predefined actions automatically in intelligent building IoT environment.

A Method for Reducing Path Recovery Overhead of Clustering-based, Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc Routing Protocol (클러스터링 기반 인지 무선 애드혹 라우팅 프로토콜의 경로 복구 오버헤드 감소 기법)

  • In the CR-enabled MANET, routing paths can be easily destroyed due to node mobility and channel unavailability (due to the emergence of the PU of a channel), resulting in significant overhead to maintain/recover the routing path. In this paper, network caching is actively used for route maintenance, taking into account the properties of the CR. In the proposed scheme, even if a node detects that a path becomes unavailable, it does not generate control messages to establish an alternative path. Instead, the node stores the packets in its local cache and 1) waits for a certain amount of time for the PU to disappear; 2) waits for a little longer while overhearing messages from other flow; 3) after that, the node applies local route recovery process or delay tolerant forwarding strategy. According to the simulation study using the OPNET simulator, it is shown that the proposed scheme successfully reduces the amount of control messages for path recovery and the service latency for the time-sensitive traffic by 13.8% and 45.4%, respectively, compared to the existing scheme. Nevertheless, the delivery ratio of the time-insensitive traffic is improved 14.5% in the proposed scheme.

A Multi-Dimensional Node Pairing Scheme for NOMA in Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks (수중 음향 센서 네트워크에서 비직교 다중 접속을 위한 다차원 노드 페어링 기법)

  • The interest in underwater acoustic sensor networks (UWASNs), along with the rapid development of underwater industries, has increased. To operate UWASNs efficiently, it is important to adopt well-designed medium access control (MAC) protocols that prevent collisions and allow the sharing of resources between nodes efficiently. On the other hand, underwater channels suffer from a narrow bandwidth, long propagation delay, and low data rate, so existing terrestrial node pairing schemes for non orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) cannot be applied directly to underwater environments. Therefore, a multi-dimensional node pairing scheme is proposed to consider the unique underwater channel in UWASNs. Conventional NOMA schemes have considered the channel quality only in node pairing. Unlike previous schemes, the proposed scheme considers the channel gain and many other features, such as node fairness, traffic load, and the age of data packets to find the best node-pair. In addition, the sender employs a list of candidates for node-pairs rather than path loss to reduce the computational complexity. The simulation results showed that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional scheme by considering the fairness factor with 23.8% increases in throughput, 28% decreases in latency, and 5.7% improvements in fairness at best.

Epidemiology of cleft lip and palate charity mission surgery at Bandung Cleft Lip and Palate Center, Indonesia: a 14-year institutional review

  • Background: The management of cleft lip and palate aims at improving the patient's aesthetic and functional outcomes. Delaying primary repair can disrupt the patient's functional status. Long-term follow-up is essential to evaluate the need for secondary repair or revision surgery. This article presents the epidemiology of cleft lip and palate, including comprehensive patient characteristics, the extent of delay, and secondary repair at our institutional center, the Bandung Cleft Lip and Palate Center, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Padjadjaran, Bandung, Indonesia. Methods: This retrospective study aimed to determine the epidemiology and recurrence rates of cleft lip and palate at the Bandung Cleft Lip and Palate Center, Indonesia, from January 2007 to December 2021. The inclusion criteria were patients diagnosed with cleft lip and/or palate. Procedures such as labioplasty, palatoplasty, secondary lip and nasal repair, and alveolar bone grafting were performed, and data on recurrence were available. Results: In total, there were 3,618 patients with cleft lip and palate, with an age range of 12 months to 67 years. The mean age was 4.33 years, and the median age was 1.35 years. Males predominated over females in all cleft types (60.4%), and the cleft lip was on the left side in 1,677 patients (46.4%). Most cases were unilateral (2,531; 70.0%) and complete (2,349; 64.9%), and involved a diagnosis of cleft lip and palate (1,981; 54.8%). Conclusion: Delayed primary labioplasty can affect daily functioning. Primary repair for patients with cleft lip and palate may be postponed due to limited awareness, socioeconomic factors, inadequate facilities, and varying adherence to treatment guidelines. Despite variations in the timing of primary cleft lip repair (not adhering to the recommended protocol), only 10% of these patients undergo reoperation. Healthcare providers should prioritize the importance of the ideal timing for primary repair in order to optimize physiological function without compromising the aesthetic results.
