  • This paper is aimed to analyze the determinants and their relative importance that affect regional competitiveness in the era of globalization and climate change. The panel model was set by a balanced panel data for 7 metropolitan areas & 9 provinces and for the period of 2001~2010. Gross regional income per capita is used as the dependent variable and competitiveness-based factors, economic production factors, and climate change adaptation factors are selected as the explanatory variables. In this study, Model 1(typical regional competitiveness model) and Model 2 (added adaptation to climate change adaptation factors) were compared. The important findings can be summarized as follows. The most influential determinants on regional competitiveness are the ratio of knowledge-based industries and human capital and energy inefficiencies decrease the regional competitiveness. Compared to Model 1, Model 2 showed that the effects of the regional openness and the technology innovation capital are relatively more influential in Model 2. The results of this empirical study provide policy implications to strengthen the regional competitiveness in the future of the era of globalization and climate change.

  • Objective: This study investigated 5-year-old children's developmental levels for creative and social personalities according to gender, and whether participation in STEAM-based unplugged robotic activities can improve their creative and social personalities. Methods: Participants were 5-year-old children (N=125) from 11 child care centers. The experimental group included 29 boys and 24 girls enrolled in classrooms that implemented an unplugged activities curriculum over five weeks. The control group consisted of 38 boys and 34 girls. Data were analyzed using a t-test and analysis of covariance, and Hedges' g was used to measure effect size. Results: First, the participating children's mean scores on creative and social personalities were 3.20 and 3.53 on a 5-point Likert scale, respectively. Girls scored higher than boys in sensitivity-various interests and imagination-playfulness domains of creative personality and all three domains of social personality. Second, children in the experimental group showed improvement in all domains of social personality and the effect size was large. They also improved in three domains (openness-humor, imagination-playfulness, independency-immersion) of creative personality, although the effect size was small. Conclusion/Implications: The results imply that implementing a robotics curriculum with unplugged play activities in early childhood classrooms contributes to 5-year-old children's development of creative and social personalities.

  • Nowadays, the development of wireless communications provides a convenience for many people. On the other hand, the openness of wireless communications poses serious security threats and the security of wireless communications is necessary to support the secure communication channel. The common security method on wireless is the stream cipher that generates the pseudorandom number. In this paper, we propose the usage of the nonlinear function S-box and the mechanism according to it in stream cipher as the study to securely protect data transferred on wireless communications. Besides, it goes abreast a study on S-box with the best random characteristic among the used S-boxes on wireless communications. By means of test, we investigate the most appropriate S-box of DES on wireless communications environment and prove the efficiency of the proposed model by comparing and analysis of the randomness of the based stream cipher and the proposed model.

  • The age of the $4^{th}$ Industrial revolution characterized with artificial intelligence leads to increased interest in emotional aspects representing humanity as counterpart competence to the digital literacy, As the educational model to foster emotional intelligence, noticed is 'maker education based on design thinking process,' since it cultivates the spirits of empathy, intuitive thinking, collaboration, communication, sharing, and openness. In this context, this study aimed to examine relationship between the educational model and emotional intelligence. For this purpose, a case study has been conducted with 37 undergraduate students in an University general education class, and the results of data collection and analysis confirmed positive influences of the program in enhancing most components of the emotional intelligence.

  • The purpose of this paper is to make a close inquiry into the relationship between width and length of crack as a method to maximize compensation effect by grouting discontinuity within weak bedrock, together with emphasis on application of the basic data to the reformation of weak bedrock in a construction site. The result reveals that the length of trace at each fracture averages $1.5{\sim}3.0mm$. Based on analysis of openness distribution pattern at each fracture, the estimated values are quite well in agreement with those of the experiment, with a negative trend in the distribution of aperture width.

  • Objectives; The purpose of the present study is to investigate workplace satisfaction level of dental technicians and the differences between that of dental lab owner's and that of employed dental technicians, who are working in dental laboratories. Methods; Samples were comprised of 137 dental technicians working in dental laboratories. Data were collected through self-administered questionnaires and analyzed to frequency distribution, correlation, t-test and multiple regression analysis. Results; 1) Dental technicians generally are 'somewhat or a bit satisfied' with their workplace situations, regardless of position, sex, and individual career. 2) Mean values of 4 items out of 11 work situation factors of employed dental technicians were significantly lower than those of lab owner's. The 4 items are the openness of management, working environment, pay, and policy in promotion and raise. They would be sources of dissatisfaction and conflict. 3) Level of satisfaction was significantly correlated with 2 subordinate variables, i.e. working conditions and administration policy. There is a tendency that administration policy is a bit more important for lab owners, while working conditions are a bit more important for employed dental technicians. Conclusion; The employer-employee relationship of dental technicians seems to be sound, as no signs of troublesome problem is detected. But the discrepancy revealed in the above results is telling that there certainly exist some disagreement in the viewpoints of the two groups. It is necessary for the dental technicians to find ways to deal with the possible triggers of discord and discontent.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship among fatigue, personality, learning strategies, and academic achievement of medical students. 146 students from year 1 to year 4 at one medical school participated in this study. Students completed the fatigue, Big Five personality traits(Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness), learning, strategies. The academic achievement of students measured by GPA. The data were analyzed by t-test and stepwise multiple regression. The student's fatigue differed by grade, and the students of low grade had higher scores than high grade. But personality traits and learning strategies were not significantly different by grade. The factors that affect on academic achievement differ by grade. In low grade, neuroticism, extraversion, and rehearsal affected students' academic achievement. In high grade, conscientiousness and extraversion had an effect on the academic achievement of students. These results could guide the design of medical education improvement, and be useful in developing a supporting program for medical students.

  • This paper presents the path model that defines a causal relationship between the construction workers' personal characteristics and their safety behavior at job-site. The personal characteristics and the safety behaviors which should be incorporated into the theoretical model were identified and established by conducting literature survey.. The model was verified by administrating survey questionnaires to the 399 construction workers who are actively engaged in construction job-sites located in Daegu metropolitan city and Kyungpook province. The data obtained from the respondents were statistically analyzed using SPSS18 and AMOS18. It is confirmed that safety behavior is directly affected by sincerity, openness, and extroversions. In addition, it is indirectly affected by stress reaction, safety motivation, and safety knowledge as well.

  • I. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study lies in examining following items: 1. Difference in creativity between boys and girls 2. Inter correlation of the sub-variables of creativity 3. Correlation between parent-child relationship and creativity 4. The relationship between creativity and number of siblings 5. Creativity and birth-order II. METHODS & PROCED URES 1. Instruments: Standardized Creativity Test and Parent-Child Relationship Test for children 2. Objects: 118 boys and 97 girls enrolled in primary schools in Seoul who were selected by random sampling 3. Procedure: (1) The data of the boy group and the girl group were analized by means of M,t, SD. (2)The relationships between creativity and the number of siblings as well as the relationship between creativity and birth order were analyzed by M. (3) Inter-correlations among the sub-factors of creativity were obtained in boys and girls. (4) Complex-correlations between creativity and parent child relationship were produced. III. RESULTS 1.
