  • This paper studies on the noise reduction for a small automobile DC Motor (a window motor) using the 6 sigma process. The application of 6 sigma process suggested reliable and valuable statistical data for the quality of the DC motor at the production line. In the measurement step in 6 sigma process. the FMEA(failure mode effect analysis) were used for the detection of noise sources. The application of 6 sigma Process gave not only the improving method for the quality of the DC motor but also the confidence of improvement Itself since it was done on the basis of the test results for a number of DC motors at the production line. Consequently the 6 sigma process was proved very effective for the noise reduction at the production line.

  • In this paper, we present the design procedure of the synchronizer and the demodulator of a 13.56MHz RFID PJM tag, which was standardized in ISO 18000-3 mode 3. We optimize the algorithms in order to minimize the number of registers and implement them based on international standard. The designed module is simulated by Modelsim and FPGA. The synchronizer is composed of 3 correlators that is implemented by 1,024(16bit ${\times}$ 64cycle) registers. The demodulator is composed of 2 correlators that is implemented by 128(2bit ${\times}$ 64cycle) registers. The simulation performed with the demodulator integrated with the synchronizer shows that it works at about 87% success rate with the test data of SNR -2dB and 100% with those of SNR 4dB.

  • A simultaneous bidirectional inductively-coupled link is presented. In the conventional inductively-coupled link, data can be bidirectionally transmitted through channel, however not simultaneously. We propose simultaneous bidirectional link for higher data rate with effective echo cancellation technique. Each chip performs TX-mode and RX-mode simultaneously. Instead chip stacking for test, similar test enviroment is realized in a single chip that is fabricated in a $0.13-{\mu}m$ standard CMOS technology.

  • Pt-V catalytic converter was installed on a heavy duty diesel engine and the characteristics of the emission reduction were tested using a engine dynamometer at various operating conditions. The emission reduction performance of Pt-V catalyst was also compared with that of a commercialized Pt catalyst currently being used in some of the heavy duty diesel engines in advanced countries. The effects of Pt-V and Pt catalysts on regulated and unregulated emissions were investigated using a 0.05 weight percent sulfur content fuel with an engine dynamometer Experiments for gaseous emissions (CO, HC and aldehyde) as well as particulate emissions (TPM, SOF and sulfate) have been conducted at several operating conditions such as T-7 mode, D-13 mode and S-13 mode before and after installing the Pt-V and Pt catalysts in the exhaust system. The emission reduction performance of Pt catalyst with respect to CO, HC, SOF, PAHs and aldehyde was found to be a little higher than that of Pt-V catalyst, but the Pt catalyst showed innate disadvantage of causing an increase of PM due to the sulfate formation via high SO2 conversion at high exhaust temperature, especially above 45$0^{\circ}C$.

  • Several Pt-based oxidation catalysts with different loading were prepared with various metal precursor solutions and characterized with H$_2$ chemisorption and TEM for Pt particle size. V was added to Pt-based catalyst for inhibiting SO$_2$oxidation reaction, as result, Pt-V/Ti-Si catalyst prepared by ERMS(Free Reduced Metal in Solution) method showed high enough activity and better inhibition on SO$_2$oxidation than Pt only catalyst. Optimum Pt particle size for diesel oxidation reaction turned out to be the size of around 20 nm. A prototype catalyst was prepared for light=duty diesel passenger car, and teated for the emission reduction performance with Korean regulation test mode(CVS-75 mode) on chassis dynamometer. The catalyst shows the performance reduction of 75~94% for CO, 53~67% for HC and 10~31% for PM. In the case of heavy-duty diesel catalyst, the domestic formal regulation teat mode D-13 was adopted for both Na engine and Turbo engine. The conversions of CO and THC are high enough(86% and 41%) while the reductions of NOx and PM are relatively low(3~11%).

  • An experimental verification of multipactor(MP) discharge for S-band diplexer as a sample DUT for space application by an in-house MP test facility is proposed. The designed diplexer having two BPFs for Rx and Tx is applied to a design of five pole inter-digital cavity type band pass filter with chebyshev response, it has 2.7 % bandwidth centered at 2.232 and 2.055 GHz for Rx, Tx, respectively. To avoid the MP discharge, the accurate design and analysis methods based on 3D EM field analysis are considered. The proposed in-house MP test facility consists of a phase detecting system using a doubly balanced mixer as a simple, low cost and real time MP test method compared with results of previously well-known MP detection systems as cross reference methods. The calculated MP threshold RF input power is 43.13 dBm. The measured one is 43 dBm and 44 dBm for CW, pulsed mode test, respectively.

  • Nowadays it has been strongly required to control emissions from vehicles specially in diesel engines because of increasing number of vehicle in korea. This research aims to provide with some of deterioration factors on vehicles for emissions characteristics and the test was done on an electronically controlled heavy-duty diesel engine under severe driving conditions such as 1200 driving hours, 220,000 km driving distance and a full load. Under various driving conditions, CO, HC, $NO_{x}$, PM and Soots emissions were estimated under D-13 mode and D-3 mode respectively. CO emission was not changed until 500 running hours, and as engine aging is progressed THC was not changed until 500 running hours but it decreased to about $33\%,\;NO_{x}$ decreased constantly but on the other hand PM increased up to $6.9\%$ during the aging process.
