  • Conventional DES has been not only shown to have a vulnerable drawback to attack method called 'Meet in the Middle', but also to be hard to use that it is because software implementation has a number of problem in real time processing. This paper describes the design and implementation of the expanded DES algorithm using VHDL for resolving the above problems. The main reason for hardware design of an encryption algorithm is to ensure a security against cryptographic attack because there is no physical protection for the algorithm written in software. Total key length of 352 bits is used for the proposed DES. The result of simulation shows that the inputted plaintext in cryptosystem are equal to the outputted that in decryptosystem.

  • Fault attacks are a powerful side channel analysis extracting secret information by analyzing the result after injecting faults physically during the implementation of a cryptographic algorithm. First, this paper analyses vulnerable points of existing Digital Signature Algorithm (DSA) schemes secure against fault attacks. Then we propose a new signature algorithm immune to all fault attacks. The proposed DSA scheme is designed to signature by using two nonce and an error diffusion method.

  • Random delay countermeasures introduce random delays into the execution flow to break the synchronization and increase the complexity of the side channel attack. A novel method for attacking devices with random delay countermeasures has been proposed by using a maximal overlap discrete wavelet transform (MODWT)-based power trace alignment algorithm. Firstly, the random delay in the power traces is sensitized using MODWT to the captured power traces. Secondly, it is detected using the proposed random delay detection algorithm. Thirdly, random delays are removed by circular shifting in the wavelet domain, and finally, the power analysis attack is successfully mounted in the wavelet domain. Experimental validation of the proposed method with the National Institute of Standards and Technology certified Advanced Encryption Standard-128 cryptographic algorithm and the SAKURA-G platform showed a 7.5× reduction in measurements to disclosure and a 3.14× improvement in maximum correlation value when compared with similar works in the literature.

  • This paper describes a design of cryptographic processor that implements the AES(Advanced Encryption Standard) block cipher algorithm "Rijndael". To achieve high throughput rate, a sub-pipeline stage is inserted into the round transformation block, resulting that the second half of current round function and the first half of next round function are being simultaneously operated. For area-efficient and low-power implementation, the round block is designed to share the hardware resources in encryption and decryption. An efficient scheme for on-the-fly key scheduling, which supports the three master-key lengths of 128-b/192-b/256-b, is devised to generate round keys in the first sub-pipeline stage of each round processing. The cryptoprocessor designed in Verilog-HDL was verified using Xilinx FPGA board and test system. The core synthesized using 0.35-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS cell library consists of about 25,000 gates. Simulation results show that it has a throughput of about 520-Mbits/sec with 220-MHz clock frequency at 2.5-V supply.-V supply.

  • Public-key cryptographic algorithms such as RSA and ECC, which are currently in use, have used mathematical problems that would take a long time to calculate with current computers for encryption. But those algorithms can be easily broken by the Shor algorithm using the quantum computer. Lattice-based cryptography is proposed as new public-key encryption for the post-quantum era. This cryptographic algorithm is performed in the Polynomial Ring, and polynomial multiplication requires the most processing time. Therefore, a hardware model module is needed to calculate polynomial multiplication faster. Number Theoretic Transform, which called NTT, is the FFT performed in the finite field. The logic verification was performed using HDL, and the proposed design at the transistor level using Hspice was compared and analyzed to see how much improvement in delay time and power consumption was achieved. In the proposed design, the average delay was improved by 30% and the power consumption was reduced by more than 8%.

  • The IoT market continues to expand and grow, but the security threat to IoT devices is also increasing. However, it is difficult to apply the security technology applied to the existing system to IoT devices that have a problem of resource limitation. Therefore, in this paper, we present a service that can improve the security of IoT devices by presenting authentication and lightweight cryptographic algorithms that can reduce the overhead of applying security features, taking into account the nature of resource limitations of IoT devices. We want to apply these service to home network IoT equipment to provide security. The authentication and lightweight cryptographic algorithm application protocols presented in this paper have secured the safety of the service through the use of LEA encryption algorithms and secret key generation by users, IoT devices and server in the IoT environment. Although there is no difference in speed from randomly generating secret keys in experiments, we verify that the problem of resource limitation of IoT devices can be solved by additionally not applying logic for secret key sharing to IoT devices.

  • An integrated cryptographic processor that efficiently integrates ARIA, AES block ciphers and Whirlpool hash function into a single hardware architecture is described. Based on the algorithm characteristics of ARIA, AES, and Whirlpool, we optimized the design so that the hardware resources of the substitution layer and the diffusion layer were shared. The round block was designed to operate in a time-division manner for the round transformation and the round key expansion of the Whirlpool hash, resulting in a lightweight hardware implementation. The hardware operation of the integrated ARIA-AES-Whirlpool crypto-processor was verified by Virtex5 FPGA implementation, and it occupied 68,531 gate equivalents (GEs) with a 0.18um CMOS cell library. When operating at 80 MHz clock frequency, it was estimated that the throughputs of ARIA, AES block ciphers, and Whirlpool hash were 602~787 Mbps, 682~930 Mbps, and 512 Mbps, respectively.

  • This paper proposes a novel arithmetic unit over GF(2$^{m}$ ) for low-area elliptic curve cryptographic processor. The proposed arithmetic unit, which is linear feed back shift register (LFSR) architecture, is designed by using hardware sharing between the binary GCD algorithm and the most significant bit (MSB)-first multiplication scheme, and it can perform both division and multiplication in GF(2$^{m}$ ). In other word, the proposed architecture produce division results at a rate of one per 2m-1 clock cycles in division mode and multiplication results at a rate of one per m clock cycles in multiplication mode. Analysis shows that the computational delay time of the proposed architecture, for division, is less than previously proposed dividers with reduced transistor counts. In addition, since the proposed arithmetic unit does not restrict the choice of irreducible polynomials and has regularity and modularity, it provides a high flexibility and scalability with respect to the field size m. Therefore, the proposed novel architecture can be used for both division and multiplication circuit of elliptic curve cryptographic processor. Specially, it is well suited to low-area applications such as smart cards and hand held devices.

  • In order to solve the well-known drawback of reduced flexibility that is associate with ASIC implementations, this paper proposes a novel arithmetic unit over GF(2$^{m}$ ) for field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) implementations of elliptic curve cryptographic processor. The proposed arithmetic unit is based on the binary extended GCD algorithm and the MSB-first multiplication scheme, and designed as systolic architecture to remove global signals broadcasting. The proposed architecture can perform both division and multiplication in GF(2$^{m}$ ). In other word, when input data come in continuously, it produces division results at a rate of one per m clock cycles after an initial delay of 5m-2 in division mode and multiplication results at a rate of one per m clock cycles after an initial delay of 3m in multiplication mode respectively. Analysis shows that while previously proposed dividers have area complexity of Ο(m$^2$) or Ο(mㆍ(log$_2$$^{m}$ )), the Proposed architecture has area complexity of Ο(m), In addition, the proposed architecture has significantly less computational delay time compared with the divider which has area complexity of Ο(mㆍ(log$_2$$^{m}$ )). FPGA implementation results of the proposed arithmetic unit, in which Altera's EP2A70F1508C-7 was used as the target device, show that it ran at maximum 121MHz and utilized 52% of the chip area in GF(2$^{571}$ ). Therefore, when elliptic curve cryptographic processor is implemented on FPGAs, the proposed arithmetic unit is well suited for both division and multiplication circuit.

  • Recently, as the use of the applications like online banking and stock trading is increasing by the rapid development of the network, security of data content is becoming more and more important. Accordingly, public key or symmetric key encryption algorithm is widely used in open networks such as the internet for the protection of data. Generally, public key cryptographic systems is based on two famous number theoretic problems namely factoring or discrete logarithm problem. So, public key cryptographic systems is relatively slow compared to symmetric key cryptography systems. Among public key cryptographic systems, the advantage of ECC compared to RSA is that it offers equal security for a far smaller key. For this reason, ECC is faster than RSA. In this paper, we propose a efficient key generation method for elliptic curve cryptography system based on the real number field.
