In this work, the catalytic reduction mechanisms of NO over ACFs/copper prepared by electrolytic copper plating has been studied. It was found that copper content on carbon surfaces increased with increasing the plating time. However, a slightly gradual decrease of adsorption properties, such as, BET specific surface area, was observed in increasing the plating times within the range of well-developed micropore structures. As experimental results, nitric oxide was converted into the nitrogen and oxygen on ACFs and ACFs/copper catalyst surfaces at $500^{\circ}C$. Especially, the surfaces of ACFs/copper catalyst were found to scavenge the oxygen released by catalytic reduction of NO, which could be explained by the presence of another nitric oxide reduction mechanism between ACFs and ACFs/copper catalysts.

To prevent or reduce air pollutant from methanol fueled vehicles, methanol oxidation reaction was carried out using a heteropoly acid catalysts. Catalytic activities of catalysts have been experimented at atmospheric pressure in a fixed bed flow reactor. Catalysts were characterized by XRD, IR, thermal analysis, N $H_{3}$-TPD and GC pulse technique. Acidities of catalysts were highly affected by poly-atoms. Methanol conversion was much higher on catalyst with W than on catalyst with Mo as a poly-atoms. With the increase of copper content(X) in C $u_{x}$$H_{{3-2x}}$PMo catalyst, acidity was decreased and oxidation ability was increased. Methanol conversion and product distribution were affected by the acidity and oxidation ability of catalyst. Especially, supported PdSiW(1wt%) catalyst has a very good methanol conversion and C $O_{2}$ selectivity as high as a commertial 3-way catalyst.t.

A rapid and selective copper-catalyzed amination of aryl halides with sodium azide was established by using 10 mol % of CuI, and 20 mol % of N,N'-dimethylethylenediamine in DMSO under microwave irradiation for 10 min. The catalytic system with 4-substituted aryl iodides was found to be the most effective leading to a nearly complete conversion.
Cu/PET film composites were prepared by electroless copper plating method. In order to improve adhesion between electroless Cu plated layer and polyester (PET) film, the effect of pretreatment conditions such as etching method and mixed catalyst composition, and accelerator was investigated. Compared to NaOH etching medium, PET film was more finely etched by HCl solution, resulting in an improvement in adhesion between Cu layer and PET film. However, there were no significant differences in electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness as a function of etching medium. The surface morphology of Cu plated PET film revealed that Pd/Sn colloidal particles became more evenly distributed in the smaller size by increasing the molar ratio of PdCl$_2$ : SnCl$_2$ from 1 : 4 to 1 : 16. With increasing the molar ratio of mixed catalyst, the adhesion and the shielding effectiveness of Cu plated PET film were increased. Furthermore, HCl was turned out to be a better accelerator than NaOH in order to enhance the activity of the mixed PdCl$_2$/SnCl$_2$ catalyst, which facilitated the formation of more uniform copper deposit on the PET film.
The reaction rate of a catalyst for producing hydrogen using the methanol steam reforming reaction was studied. It was prepared by impregnating copper, which is often used in methanol synthesis, as the main active metal, using hydrotalcite, which has excellent porosity and thermal stability, high specific surface area, weak Lewis acid point, and basicity, as a support. Activation energy and Pre-exponential factors were identified. In this study, the activation energy of the hydrotalcite catalyst impregnated with 20 wt% copper was calculated to be 97.4 kJ/mol and the Pre-exponential was 5.904 × 1010. Process simulation was performed using the calculated values and showed a similar tendency to the experimental results.
Fixed-bed reactor Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation of methanol steam reforming reaction was performed using the intrinsic kinetic data of the copper-impregnated hydrotalcite catalyst. The activation energy of the copper hydrotalcite catalyst obtained from the previous study results was 97.4 kJ/mol, and the pre-exponential was 5.904 × 1010. Process simulation was performed using the calculated values and showed a similar tendency to the experimental results. And the conversion rate according to the change of the reaction temperature (200 - 450 ℃) and the molar ratio of methanol and water was observed using the intrinsic kinetic data. In addition, mass and heat transfer phenomena analysis of a commercial reactor (I.D. 0.05 - 0.1m, Length 1m) was predicted through axial 2D Symmetry simulation using the power law model of the above kinetic constants.
Efficient copper removal from water was achieved by using surface modified silica spheres with 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTMS) using base catalyst. The surface modification of silica spheres was performed by hydrolysis and condensation reactions of the MPTMS. The characteristic infrared absorption peaks at 2929, 1454, and 1343 cm−1 represent the −CH2 stretching vibration, asymmetric deformation, and deformation, respectively. The absorption peaks at 2580 and 693 cm−1 corresponding the −SH stretching vibration and the C-S stretching vibration indicate the incorporation of MPTMS to the surface of silica spheres. Field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) image of the surface modified silica sphere (SMSS) shows nano-particles of MPTMS on the surface of silica spheres. High concentration of copper solution (1000 ppm) was used to test the copper removal efficiency and uptake capacity. The FESEM image of SMSS treated with the copper solution shows large number of copper lumps on the surface of SMSS. The copper concentration drastically decreased with increasing the amount of SMSS. The residual copper concentrations were analyzed using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer. The copper removal efficiency and uptake capacity with 1000 ppm of copper solution were 99.99 % and 125 mg/g, respectively.
