  • Surface fog coating methods to porous pavements with a polymer, that contains MMA as a main ingredient, are being widely used in Japan and called 'Top-Coat Processes'. They have lots of effects such as to prevention of the pavement void choking, improvement of the water permeability of the pavements and so on. The purpose of this research is to show the characterization of the polymer to optimize the functions of the polymer fog-coat methods. This study focused on the difference of 'wetting' by water among polymers used for the fog coatings, and calculation the surface free energy from the water contact angle on each material. At the end, the water permeability test were conducted using porous asphalt mixtures that were coated with several kinds of polymers. The permeability was also measured on the specimens that were forcibly choked by muddy water and the resistance to choking was compared. It is concluded that the reduction of the surface free energy between water and a polymer improves the life of the permeability functions of porous pavements. Improvement of water permeation capacity and void-blocking controlling effects can be quantitatively evaluated using the interfacial tension ($\gamma$sl) with water for the coating material (high-viscosity asphalt and hardening resin binder). Consequently, the smaller the $\gamma$sl of the coating material the higher the water permeation capacity and void-blocking controlling effects of the porous asphalt pavements.

  • This study aims to analyze the determinants of macroeconomic and institutional stability on the development of the global sukuk market by controlling the effects of population. This study uses panel data namely GDP per-capita, exchange rate, and inflation as the proxies for macroeconomic stability sourced from the World Development Index, and six dimensions of Worldwide Governance Indicators (WGI) as institutional proxies sourced from WGI-World Bank. To make robust the relationship between macroeconomics and institutional on the global sukuk market, the population (POP) variable was included as a control variable. The development of sukuk uses a proxy for sukuk issuance in the International Islamic Financial Market, for the annual period from 2002-2017. The data was analyzed using the General Method of Moment, and the results show that by controlling the population effects that proved to be significant, GDP per-capita and the rule of law have a significant impact on the development of sukuk, especially when incorporating population effects as control variables, whereby further ascertaining the effect of each macroeconomic-stability variable and institutional stability on sukuk development, especially inflation, found not to affect sukuk development. These results also confirm the previous findings, whereby inflation remains controllable at a certain level for economic development.

  • In this study, we conducted an experiment with the 219 undergraduates to find out the controlling effects of the verbal anchoring (low, high, non) in the nostalgia ads and the consumers' responses according to the product types (emotional/rational). The results suggest the higher the standards of the effects of the verbal anchoring are, the more favorably the preferences to the ads and the purchasing intention are formed regardless of the existence of the nostalgia. The following reveals that the controlling effects of the verbal anchoring in the nostalgia ads have differences between the purchasing intention and the preferences to the ads as to both the nostalgia familiarity and the product types. In the preferences to the ads in case that the standards of the effects of the verbal anchoring are low, the differences between familiarity group and non familiarity one are not noticeable but in the purchasing intention the differences between the low case and non of the standards of the effects of the verbal anchoring are a little more noticeable.

  • This study examines how economic and psychological characteristics affect the quality of life (QoL) of elderly individuals age 60 and older, who live in the Seoul-metropolitan area. Relationships among socio-demographic status, economic conditions, psychological characteristics, family life, health status, and QoL are examined by t-test and ANOVA(Duncan's test as post hoc multiple comparisons), and the multiple regression analysis is used to estimate QoL determinants in the elderly. The major findings of the study are as follows. First, younger age, higher education levels, better health status, harmonious family relations, higher levels of household income, lower levels of loneliness, and higher self-esteems are related to higher QoL levels. Second, the impacts of factors on QoL are differentiated according to tercile groups that divide monthly allowance of respondents into three categories: below normal (threshold amount below 21MW), near normal (threshold amount between 21MW and 35MW), and above normal (threshold amount above 35MW). For each tercile group, poor health status or higher loneliness have negative effects on QoL, while harmonious family relationship has a positive effect. For the below-normal group, years of education or self-esteem have positive effects, while age or retirement status have negative effects when controlling for other factors. For the near-normal group, being married, or perceived financial insecurity create lower QoL levels, while higher self-esteem increases QoL levels. For the above-normal group, being widowed, employed, or retired have positive effects on QoL, when controlling for other variables. Third, even among elderly with high allowances, the effects of health status and family relationship are significant determinants that explain QoL levels. This result suggests that, for te elderly, poor health status and poor family relationships severely decrease QoL in later life, regardless of economic condition.

  • This paper is to study for causality validation of relation of the repair justice and repair satisfaction, relation between repair satisfaction and re-purchasing with South Korea's most important express service users. Through this research, we would like to confirm to seriousness of the failure express service and effects of controlling effectively adjust in relation between repair impartiality and satisfaction of repairs. The results of the study show as below. First, the result shows the justice outcome in express service, interaction justice, outcome justice in the relation of satisfaction with repair have regardful effects to the satisfaction of repair. This result explains that interaction justice has a positive influence. Second, in the relations between the procedural justice in express service and the satisfaction of repair, it is presented that the procedural justice has not regardful effects and results show differences from other leading researches. This result explains that procedural justice has not a positive influence. Third, as analyzing seriousness of the failure express service, controlling regulation effect in the relation of repair justice and repair satisfaction, seriousness of interaction and controlling regulation effect are not regardful effect in this relationship. These results are explained that the seriousness or controlling of the failure express service have not a positive influence to the relation of repair justice and repair satisfaction. Finally, in the relation between repair satisfaction and the intention to use again, repair satisfaction has a regardful effect to intention to use again. This result explained that it has positive influence to repair satisfaction and the intention to use again.

  • Objectives: This study sought to explore the relationships between drinking problems and alcohol's harm to others with the moderating effects of alcohol expectancies on these relationships after controlling for demographic characteristics. Methods: Participants for this study were 1,859 men and women. We performed hierarchical regression analyses with sets of predictors (1) demographic characteristics, (2) drinking problems and alcohol expectancies, and (3) interaction terms between drinking problems and alcohol expectancies. Results: After controlling for demographic characteristics, drinking problems and alcohol expectancies had the significant effects on alcohol's harm to others in both men and women. However, the interactions between drinking problems and negative alcohol expectancy showed the significant impacts on alcohol's harm to others among men. When men had higher levels of negative alcohol expectancy, drinking problems showed stronger effects on alcohol's harm to others. Conclusions: As a result, findings from the study highlight the importance of more sophisticated public policy to prevent and to intervene drinking problems and to support those around drinkers and drinkers themselves.

  • The rate-controlling mechanisms for time-dependent plastic deformation of eutectoid and hyper-eutectoid pearlitic steels at low $T/T_m$ temperatures were explored. The strain rate - stress data obtained from a series of constant load tensile tests at $0.25{\sim}0.30T/T_m$ were applied to the power law, the lattice friction controlled plasticity, and the obstacle controlled plasticity. Of these models, the obstacle controlled plasticity was found to best-describe the rate-controlling mechanism for time-dependent plastic deformation of two steels at low $T/T_m$ temperatures in terms of the activation energy for overcoming the obstacles against dislocation glide in ferrite. The deformed microstructures revealed the dislocation forests of a high density as the main obstacles. In addition, the obstacle controlled plasticity well-explained the effects of cementite on the $0^{\circ}K$ flow stress of two steels.

  • A digital preview controller is designed for tandem cold mills to achieve a better improvement of the thickness accuracy. And simultaneously a blocked noniteracting controller is synthesized for rejecting the interactive effects among adjacent stands and for controlling independently each roll stand of landem cold mills. The performance effects and characteristics of the suggested roll control system are discussed in the practical view points. The simulation results show that the thickness accuracy of tandem cold mills can be largely improved by the blocked noninteracting and digital preview contoller.

  • In the epidermis of skin, a fine balance exists between proliferating progenitor cells and terminally differentiating cells. We examined the effects of TGF-betas and retinoic acid (RA) on controlling this balance in normal human epidermal keratinocytes cultured under conditions where most morphological and biochemical features of epidermis in vivo are retained. Our results revealed marked and pleiotropic effects of both TGF-beta and RA on kerationcytes. In contrast to retinoids, TGF-betas acted on mitotically active basal cells to retard cell proliferation.
