  • This paper describes the development of a synthetic multi-agent called KMITL Cadence 2003. KMITL Cadence 2003 is a robotic soccer simulation team consisting of eleven autonomous software agents. Each agent operates in a physical soccer simulation model called Robocup Soccer Server which provides fully distributed and real-time multi-agent system environment. All teammates have to cooperate to achieve the common goal of winning the game. The simulation models many aspects of the football field such as noise in ball movements, noisy sensors, unreliable communication channel between teammates and actuators, limited physical abilities and restricted communication. This paper addresses the algorithm to develop the soccer agents to perform basic actions which are scoring, passing ball and blocking the opponents effectively. The result of this development is satisfactory because the successful scoring attempts is increased from 11.1% to 33.3%, successful passing ball attempts is increased from 22.08% to 63.64%, and also, successful intercepting attempts is increased from 88% to 97.73%.

  • The current Moon Jai-in administration in South Korea is facing serious challenges as a result of a scandal involving the manipulation of news online. Staff in Moon's camp are suspected of manipulating public opinion by creating millions of fake news comments online, contributing to Moon being elected president. This South Korean political scandal raises a number of theoretical issues with regard to new platform technologies and media manipulation. First, the incident exposes the technological limits of blocking manipulation of the news, partly because of the nature of social media and partly because of the nature of contemporary technology. Contemporary social media is often monopolistic in nature; with the majority of people are using the same platforms, and hence it is likely that they will be subject to forms of media manipulation. Second, the Korean case of news manipulation demonstrates a unique cultural aspect of Korean society. News comments and readers' replies have become a major channel of alternative news in Korea. This phenomenon is often designated as "reply journalism," since people are interested in reading the news replies of ordinary readers equally to reading news reports themselves. News replies are considered indicators of public opinion and are seen as affecting trias politica in Korean society. Third, the Korean incident of news manipulation implicates a new form of populism in the 21st century and the nature of democratic participation. This article aims to explicate key issues in media manipulation by including wider technological, cultural, and political aspects in the South Korean news media context.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance benefits of broadband ATM networks when the call control and management flows are separated from user data flows. The virtual path tunneling concept for control and management flows are applied to the same physical ATM networks. The behaviors of channel throughput and transfer delay are analyzed. It results that the proposed virtual short-cut paths can maintain the network being stable with acceptable bandwidth. They are very useful to provide the stable control and management capabilities for Internet and mobile applications in the broadband ATM networks. In our numerical results, the effective throughputs of the proposed virtual shout-ut channel are about three times than those of end-to-end user data channels with hop distances of 10, and about two times than those with hop distance of 5 when the link blocking probability increases to 0.1. It concludes that the effective channel bandwidth are greatly reduced down while physical links are not stable and user traffic flows are occasionally overflowed.

  • Inter-Satellite Links(ISL) technique in the Polar Orbit Satellite plays the key role in the communication methods in IRIDIUM system, where the ISL is commonly established between neighbor satellites. The system has major drawbacks in maintaining the multi-hopping link connectivities while the satellite nodes are communicating each other. The proposed system is newly designed to allow diagonal link connections between the satellites and shows how it does improve the performance. The optimized number of satellites in the terms of their altitudes and visible distance are calculated. The traffic parameters and the probability of blocking are analyzed to compare the visible satellite link method with the neighbor link method mathermatically.

  • As the internet traffic type and size have bun diversified in recent years, the GMPLS-based distributed control and management protocol have surfaced as a serious issue for dynamic optical lightpath setup. In this reason, we investigated and analyzed network performance and protocols using global information-based link state approach and local information based link state approach. We calculated connection setup time, required control bandwidth and setup blocking probability that made from network update period and threshold metrics according to traffic arrival rate. The evaluated results will be used in broadband network and adopted for high speed network in the future widely.

  • Optical module plays an important role in the construction of high speed communication network. Laser diode is a component of optical module, and its characteristics are dependent of temperature, so many researches are reported. In this paper, we proposed the electrical equivalent circuit of PBH-LD based on the rate equations. And, the two leakage paths exit outside the active region. One path is converted pn-diode and the other path is converted two transistors using npn-Tr and pnp-Tr. In order to reduce the leakage currents, we observed the dependence of carrier concentrations of current blocking layers using PSPICE simulator.

  • LTE-Advanced is the evolved version of LTE which is currently in progress at the 3GPP. At present, as the number of smart phone users is rapidly increasing, the demand for ever more capacity is driven largely by video usage and high quality data communication and so on, this let more researchers study about LTE-A all over the world. LTE-A aims to achieve improved service and communication quality over 3G system at the aspect of throughput, peak data rate, latency, and spectral efficiency. Among various features in LTE-A, the multi-user MIMO(MU-MIMO), in which the base station transmits several streams to multiple receivers, has expected to give better quality for system. In this paper, we investigate performances of various types of downlink receivers with fixed number of antennas. we first review the development process from LTE to LTE-A. Second we introduce TM9 which is adopted in Rel.10 for MU-MIMO system, including the MU-MIMO system model and the explanation on the algorithm used in system. We also have brief introduction about sub-blocking in turbo decoding, finally we compare the performance between the uncoded case and coded case which is using turbo encoding.

  • In this thesis, we propose a Speed Accommodation Priority Algorithm Scheme(SPAS) and Traffic Control Model Scheme (TCMS) to satisfy a desired handoff dropping probability and to reduce the blocking probability of new calls using mobility characteristics and handoff rate in mobile communication networks. The guard channels below threshold can guarantee the Quality of Service(QoS) in terms of the request handoff dropping probability and the guard channels above the threshold can be used to handle high priority new calls and high priority handoff calls. When the ratio of the handoff call arrival rate is less then the ratio of the new call arrival rate, the proposed method can guarantee the new call better than the previous guard channel scheme.

  • This paper analyzes the performance of the handover in an overlaid micro/macro cellular system suited for mobile communication environments. In proposed model, it is analyzed the performance of case that subscriber who move with high speed does handover to a macrocell instead of doing handover by microcell. For an easy analysis, a circle shaped cell model are assumed both in microcell and macrocell. The reservation channel scheme is adopted in microcell for a low-speed mobile while a scheme using queue is used in macrocell for a high-speed mobile. The analytic results show that the proposed scheme provides a lower handover failure relatively than in a non-overlaid cellular system with slightly increased new call blocking probability.

  • This paper investigates the problem of protecting multicast sessions in mesh wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) networks against single link failures, for example, a fiber cut in optical networks. First, we study the two characteristics of multicast sessions in mesh WDM networks with sparse light splitter configuration. Traditionally, a multicast tree does not contain any circles, and the first characteristic is that a multicast tree has better performance if it contains some circles. Note that a multicast tree has several branches. If a path is added between the leave nodes on different branches, the segment between them on the multicast tree is protected. Based the two characteristics, the survivable multicast sessions routing problem is formulated into an Integer Linear Programming (ILP). Then, a heuristic algorithm, named the adaptive shared segment protection (ASSP) algorithm, is proposed for multicast sessions. The ASSP algorithm need not previously identify the segments for a multicast tree. The segments are determined during the algorithm process. Comparisons are made between the ASSP and two other reported schemes, link disjoint trees (LDT) and shared disjoint paths (SDP), in terms of blocking probability and resource cost on CERNET and USNET topologies. Simulations show that the ASSP algorithm has better performance than other existing schemes.
