The Effects of Major Satisfaction, Clinical Practice Satisfaction and Career Consciousness Maturity of Nursing Students on Job-Seeking Stress

  • This study was attempted to find out the effect of major satisfaction, maturation of career consciousness and clinical practice satisfaction of nursing college students on job-seeking stress. For this study, 157 3th, 4th grade students were participated from K University in K Province, using a self-reported questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 22.0. program. As a result of this study, it was revealed that there was a significant correlation between the job-seeking stress of nursing students on major satisfaction(r=-.270, p<.001), clinical practice satisfaction(r=-.283 p<.001), maturation of career consciousness(r=-.424, p<.001). Also, the factors affecting the job-seeking stress of nursing students were major satisfaction(β=-0.005, p<.05), clinical practice satisfaction(β=-0.126, p<.001), maturation of career consciousness(β=-0.369, p<.001) with a total explanatory power of 17.7%. Therefore consideration of educational programt be given to the s and support systems to reduced job seeking stress for nursing students.

The Relationships among Incivility, Coping, Career Identity and Burnout in Nursing Students during Clinical Practice (간호대학생이 임상실습에서 경험하는 무례함, 대처, 진로정체감 및 소진의 관계)

  • The Purpose of this study was to identify the relationship among incivility, coping, burnout and career identity to clinical practice. The subjects were 199 nursing students from two college in Gwang-ju. A self-report questionnaire was used to collect data on incivility, coping, career identity and burnout. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, independent t-test, ANOVA, and Multiple regression by SPSS ver. 23.0. 87.9% of subjects experiences incivility in clinical practice. Incivility was positively correlated with burnout(r=.27, p<.001). but Incivility was nagatively correlated with career identity(r=-.24, p=.001). Career identity was nagatively correlated with burnout(r=-.62, p<.001). The predictors on burnout were incivility, coping and career identity. These variables have total explanatory power of 48.6% on burnout.

The Effect of Needs for Professional Development and Organizational Climate on Organizational Socialization (병원간호사가 지각하는 성장욕구와 조직분위기가 조직사회화에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of needs for professional development and organizational climate on organizational socialization of clinical nurses. A cross-sectional analysis were performed to assess the factors affecting organizational socialization. Methods: The data used in this study were obtained from clinical nurses who were employed in a hospital (N=606). Using multiple regression, we tested variables to assess their effects on organizational socialization in this sample. The data were analyzed using descriptive test, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficiency and stepwise multivariate regression. SPSS 17.0 program was utilized for data analysis. Results: The mean scores of organizational socialization, needs for professional development and organizational climate were statistically differed by career ladder, educational level and position. Organizational socialization had significant positive correlations with the needs for professional development (r=.332, p<.01) and organizational climate (r=.523, p<.01). Those variables including career ladder explained 33.4% of organizational socialization. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that organizational socialization of clinical nurses could be enhanced by meeting the needs for professional development and organizational climate. Developing innovative educations for encouraging clinical nurses' carrier development and creating a positive organizational climate are mandated for clinical nurses to have constructive organizational socialization.

A Study on the Perception and Attitude of Korean Medical Students toward Career Choice as a Korean Medicine Doctor (1개 한의대 학생의 진로선택에 대한 인식과 태도 조사)

  • Objective : The purpose of this research is to investigate the perception and attitude of Korean medical students toward career choice as a Korean medicine doctor. Method : The subject were 89 Korean medical students. Question investigation was applied. The questionnaire in this study contained 20 questions to investigate the perception toward career choice as a Korean medicine doctor. Results : Korean medical students showed higher interest in clinical practice, most of students(80.9%) answered they have planning for life's work as practicing Korean medicine doctor. First ranking as career they want is the pay doctor(36.2%), second is the intern(27.0%) as Korean medicine doctor within one year. The average age of students who answered that they hope to be intern is lower than who did not. Female students who hope to be intern preferred internal medicine, gynecology and pediatrics. But male students who hope to be intern preferred department of acupuncture & moxibustion, ophthalmology, otolaryngology & dermatology and rehabilitation. Conclusion : The result suggests that Korean medical students have an affirmative perception toward clinical doctor, but they are not interested in the other career.

Evaluation of Pharmacy Students' Attitudes Toward Pharmaceutical Care and Career Choices Following Interdisciplinary Inpatient Clerkships (약대생의 약료에 대한 인식과 실무실습-진로선택의 상관성에 관한 연구)

  • The study objectives were to investigate the attitude of Ajou University pharmacy students toward pharmaceutical care and to identify their perceived barriers to its provision. Secondarily, their career choices and influential factors for career decision were assessed. Method: A cross-sectional survey of Ajou University pharmacy students in all professional years was conducted in May 2014. Results: Over 2 weeks, a total of 123 students participated in the study (100% response rate). All respondents agreed that pharmaceutical care is the right direction for the provision to be headed and that pharmaceutical care will improve patient health. However, professional year was inversely associated with the degree of positive attitude toward pharmaceutical care. Highly perceived barriers to pharmaceutical care included poor image of pharmacist's role in society (67%) and lack of access to the patient medical record in the pharmacy (65%). Work environment, benefits, and salary were top three influential factors for career plans, and $6^{th}$ year students considered salary most important. Patient-oriented practices (hospital and community pharmacy) were the most preferred career choices among $6^{th}$ year students. Conclusion: Pharmacy clerkships appeared to have a positive influence on career choices of those students. Efforts should be exerted to improve pharmacy clerkships and to promote pharmaceutical care.

Influence of the perceived educational environment on future career planning among nursing students in Egypt

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine attitudes and knowledge regarding career planning after graduation, as well as the perceived educational environment of a pediatric clinical course, among nursing students at Menoufia University in Egypt. This study also investigated the influence of the perceived educational environment on future career planning among nursing students. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was used, with a structured interview questionnaire that included demographic characteristics, a section that measured students' attitudes and knowledge toward their career planning, and the Dundee Ready Educational Environment Measure Scale (DREEM). Results: The mean total score for the DREEM scale was 109.61, and most students perceived many areas within the program as more positive than negative. However, they had low levels of knowledge regarding career planning. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, further efforts should be made to stimulate students' interest in pediatric nursing, to integrate theoretical content with practice, and to improve their planning activities early during their study. It is important to engage students in discussions concerning their ideas and worries about factors they perceive as less enhancing and more threatening in clinical settings.

Approach Toward Integrated Curriculum for Dental Hygienist (치과위생사 통합교육과정을 위한 접근)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine what the role of denial hygienist was. The subjects were 751 dental hygienists from dental clinics, dental hospitals, general hospitals, public dental clinics and their branches throughout the nation. After a survey was conducted, the collected data were analyzed with SPSS WIN 10.0, and variance analysis and post-analysis were implemented. And Forgarty's 8th integrated model, out of 10 ones, was selected to delve into the practical role of dental hygienist in detail. The findings of this study were as follows: 1. The three age groups had a significantly different opinion on the significance of individual subjects. The dental hygienists of thirty six and over found the basic and preventive public dental care courses most important, and the 31~35 age group placed most stock in education and research. Overall, the post-analysis results showed that prevention and clinical courses were considered most vital, followed by education and fundamental courses. 2. There was a significant gap between four groups from the different work places in their view of the weight of the individual subjects. According to the post-analysis, the dental hygienists from the general hospitals, public dental clinics and their branches gave more weight to fundamental, education and research areas. Those who were with the dental clinics, dental hospitals and general hospitals put higher value on clinical course than the dental hygienists from the public dental clinics and their branches. 3. Two groups with a different career also had a different outlook on the importance of the individual subjects. The post-analysis results illustrated that the dental hygienists who had worked for three years or more put higher stress on the fundamental course than those with a less career, and the dental hygienists with a five-year or higher career attached more importance to the education and research field than those with a smaller career. 4. There was a significant difference between the three age groups in their clinical role. The post-analysis results indicated thai the younger dental hygienists were more of assistants than of professionals, as they chiefly took X-ray photograph, handled treatment materials or performed treatment-related works. Overall, handling treatment materials was most common. 5. The three groups from the different work places significantly varied in their clinical role. According to the post-analysis, those from the dental clinics and dental hospitals took more x-ray photographs, handled more treatment materials and performed more relevant works, compared to those from the general hospitals, public dental clinics and their branches. 6. The two groups with a different career differed significantly in their clinical role. The post-analysis results suggested that the dental hygienists with a less career played an assistant role more, which handled treatment materials or carried out other relevant works. 7. The fundamental courses (I) and (II), preventive class (I) and (II) and its practice course were regarded as integrated subjects that they should take 10 offer preventive treatment, which was one of the dental hygienist missions. What's needed to act as dental-care educators was the basic courses (I) and (II), dental hygiene education and its practice. Finally, integrated clinical courses (I) and (II) and clinical practice were viewed as necessary for their role performance as dental treatment collaborators.

Structural Model of Nurses' Career Commitment (간호사의 경력몰입에 관한 구조모형)

  • Purpose: This study was done to construct a hypothetical model to explain the factors influencing career commitment of nurses. Methods: Three factors (individual internal-, job- and career-characteristics) and 8 sub-factors were measured with Likert scales. Data collection was conducted from Jan. 11 to 31, 2011 using self-report questionnaires. Participants(738 nurses) were selected from 6 hospitals in 2 metropolitan cities of South Korea. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS Window 16.0 and Amos 19.0. Results: 1) Among the 3 factors, career commitment was most strongly influenced by career-characteristics. 2) Career commitment wasinfluenced by organizational-career-management but not by personal-career-management. 3) Career commitment was influenced by individual internal-characteristics but not by job-characteristics. 4) Of the 8 sub-factors, career commitment was most strongly influenced by desire-for-growth but not by self-efficiency. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that in order to improve career commitment of nurses it is necessary to implement custom-made career development policies considering individual characteristics in the organizational level.

Analysis of the Relationship between Career Anchors, Job Embeddedness, Career Motivation, and Retention Intention of Clinical Nurses (임상간호사의 경력 닻, 직무배태성, 경력동기 및 재직의도와의 관계 분석)

  • This study is a descriptive research study for clinical nurses to understand the relationship between career anchor, job embeddedness, career motivation and retention intention, and to identify factors that can affect retention intention. A study was conducted between November 1, 2022 and December 30, 2022 with 155 nurses from C and G Regional General Hospitals. Nurses' intention to work was statically correlated with job embeddedness and career motivation. A factor influencing nurses' intention to work was job embeddedness, and the explanatory power of the variable was 25%. We propose repeated studies that diversified the study subjects to identify nurses' career anchor types, which are influencing factors of nurses' job embeddedness, and follow-up studies to develop training and personnel management programs according to career anchor types and verify their effectiveness.

Effects of Emotional Intelligence and Convergent Nurses' Work Environment on Nursing Performance among Clinical Nurses as Career-beginners (사회초년기 종합병원간호사의 감성지능과 융·복합 간호업무환경이 간호업무성과에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the levels of emotional intelligence, and convergent nurses' work environment and to identify the effects of emotional intelligence and convergent nurses' work environment on nursing performance among clinical nurses as career-beginners. The study subject was a total of 95 clinical nurses as career-beginners that were recruited from three hospitals. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS 21.0 program were used to analyze the data. The study results had shown significant correlations of emotional intelligence, and convergent nurses' work environment and regulator of emotional and leadership had explanation power 28.0% of nursing performance. We should consider the methods to enhance regulator of personal emotional and improve leadership of administrators for nursing performance. Therefore, the results can be used as basic data to develop nursing performance improvement program and the strategies for clinical nurses as career-beginners.
