  • The number of searched nodes and the computation time in an index should be minimized for optimizing the processing cost of the nearest neighbor query. The Measurement of search distance considered a circular location property of objects is required to accurately select the nodes which will be searched in the nearest neighbor query. In this paper, we propose the processing method of the nearest neighbor query be considered a circular location property of object where the search space consists of a circular domain and show its performance by experiments. The proposed method uses the circular minimum distance and the circular optimal distance which are the search measurements for optimizing the processing cost of the nearest neighbor query.

  • In multimedia database systems, the nearest neighbor Query occurs frequently and requires the processing cost higher than other spatial Queries do. It needs the measurement of search distance that the number of searched nodes and the computation time in an index can be minimized for optimizing the cost of processing the nearest neighbor query. The circular location property of objects is considered to accurately select the nodes which will be searched in the nearest neighbor query. In this paper, we propose the processing method of nearest neighbor queries be considered a circular location property of object where the search space consists of a circular domain and show its characteristics. The proposed method uses the circular minimum distance and the circular optimal distance, the search measurement for optimizing the processing cost of nearest neighbor queries.

  • In this paper, an algorithm for determining the optimal resolution has been described for measuring the actual length of circular objects. As the resolution gets higher, the measurement error in general becomes smaller because of the reduced distance per pixel. However, the higher resolution makes circular objects enlarged, which may produce an ill-conditioned system. That is, a small error in the boundary positions may result in a large error in the analysis of the circular objects. Taking this fact into account, a new measure is proposed to determine the optimal resolution. The actual errors have been calculated with various resolutions and the resolution with the minimum error has been decided as the optimal resolution. The analysis using various circles with different sizes indicates that the minimum measurement error is obtained when the whole circle appears in the screen as large as possible, regardless of the size of circle. The experimental results using real images have verified the validity of our analysis.

  • The query of the K closest object pairs between two object sets frequently occurs at recently retrieval systems. The circular location property of objects should be considered for efficiently process queries finding such a K nearest object pair. In this paper, we propose the optimal algorithm finding the K object pairs which are closest to each other in a search space with a circular domain and show its performance by experiments. The proposed algorithm optimizes the cost of finding the K nearest object pairs by using the circular search distances which is much applied the circular location property.

  • For this study, the full-scale model of Chumsungdae was selected as an object, and various photographs were obtained with metric camera for forming circular strips and blocks. The accuracies were analyzed according to the change of object distance and different configuration of control points by bundle adjustment, and the characteristics of results obtained through combined strips were drawn. This thesis suggests optimal analysis technique of cylindrical structures requiring all-side analysis such as cultural properties. As a result, it is possible to use control points positioned on only any one-side for all-side analysis, and control configuration is more important rather than the number of control points for increasing accuracy. In addition, it is desirable to locate control points in X, Y and Z plane uniformly, and it was shown as object distance was shorten and the number of combined strips increases, the accuracy of results was improved considerably.

  • The offects of a small control rod (d=3mm) located near a main circular cylinder on the drag reduction and wake structure modification were investigated. The location of the small control rod mounted on a rod-like spring is self-adjusting according to the wake structure far optimal control of the flow around the main cylinder. The experiments were carried out at the Reynolds numbers based on the cylinder diameter (D=50mm) in the range $Re_{D}=1{\times}10^4{\~}6{\times}10^4$. Mean velocity and turbulent statistics were measured with varying the angle along the cylinder circumference ${\Theta}=15^{\circ},\;30^{\circ},\;45^{\circ}$ and the distance between the main and control rods L =0.7, 1. Compared with the bare cylinder, the main circular cylinder with the fixed and self-adjusting rods reduced drag coefficient by $10{\%}$ at the angle of ${\Theta}=45^{\circ}$. For the main cylinder with self-adjusting rot as the Reynolds numbers increase, the streamwise mean velocity is increased, however, the turbulence intensity is decreased. In addition, the control rods tested in this study are effective at higher Reynolds number than at lower Reynolds number.

  • This study compared and analyzed the performance of a distributed area search algorithm and a distributed probability search algorithm based on information exchange between ships. The distributed algorithm is a method that can search for an optimal avoidance route based on information exchange between ships. In the distributed area search algorithm, only a ship with the maximum cost reduction among neighboring ships has priority, so the next expected location can be changed. The distributed stochastic search algorithm allows a non-optimal value to be searched with a certain probability so that a new value can be searched. A circular-based ship collision avoidance model was used for the ship-to-ship collision avoidance experiment. The experimental method simulated the distributed area search algorithm and the distributed stochastic search algorithm while increasing the number of ships from 2 to 50 that were the same distance from the center of the circle. The calculation time required for each algorithm, sailing distance, and number of message exchanges were compared and analyzed. As a result of the experiment, the DSSA(Distributed Stochastic Search Algorithm) recorded a 25%calculation time, 88% navigation distance, and 84% of number of message exchange rate compared to DLSA.

  • Nowadays, composite plates are widely used as high-strength structures to fabricate a dynamic loading-resistant armours. In this study, the shock load is applied by an explosion of spherical TNT charge at a specified distance from the circular composite plate. The composite plate contains a two-layer ceramic-metal armour and a poly-methyl methacrylate (PMMA) target layer. The dynamic behavior of the composite armour has been investigated by measuring the transferred effective stress and maximum deflection into the target layer. For this purpose, the simulation of the blast loading upon the composite structure was performed by using the load-blast enhanced (LBE) procedure in Ls-Dyna software. The effect of main process parameters such as the thickness of layers, and scaled distance has been examined on the specific stiffness of the structure using response surface method. After validating the results by comparing with the experimental results, the optimal values for these parameters along with the regression equations for transferred effective stress and displacement to the target have been obtained. Finally, the optimal values of input parameters have been specified to achieve minimum transferred stress and displacement, simultaneously with reducing the weight of the structure.

  • Dielectric barrier discharge plasma is a new technique in water pollutant degradation, which that is characterized by the production of chemically active species such as hydroxyl radicals, ozone, hydrogen peroxide, etc. If dissolving of plasma gas generated in the plasma reaction has increased, it is possible to increase the contaminant removal capacity. In this study, the improvement on the dissolving performance of plasma gas was evaluated by the indirect method measuring the overall oxygen transfer coefficient. Experiments were conducted to examine the effects of nozzle type, distance from water surface, air supply rate and liquid circulation rate. The experimental results showed that the $K_{La}$ value of the 3-prong nozzle is 2.67 times higher than the diffuser. The order of $K_{La}$ value with nozzle type ranked in the following order: 3-prong nozzle (inner diameter, less 1 mm) > circular nozzle (inner diameter, 1.5 mm) > ellipse nozzle (short diameter 1 mm, long diameter 2.5 mm) > circular nozzle (inner diameter, 3 mm). Optimal liquid circulation rate was appeared to be 1.7 L/min, the value of $K_{La}$ was 0.510 1/min. The value of $K_{La}$ with increasing air supply rate was revealed in the form of an exponential such as $K_{La}=0.3581e^{0.2919^*air\;flow\;rate}$.

  • In this paper, we present arc-length estimations for quadratic rational B$\acute{e}$zier curves using the length of polygon and distance between both end points. Our arc-length estimations coincide with the arc-length of the quadratic rational B$\acute{e}$zier curve exactly when the weight ${\omega}$ is 0, 1 and ${\infty}$. We show that for all ${\omega}$ > 0 our estimations are strictly increasing with respect to ${\omega}$. Moreover, we find the parameter ${\mu}^*$ which makes our estimation coincide with the arc-length of the quadratic rational B$\acute{e}$zier curve when it is a circular arc too. We also show that ${\mu}^*$ has a special limit, which is used for optimal estimation. We present some numerical examples, and the numerical results illustrates that the estimation with the limit value of ${\mu}^*$ is an optimal estimation.
