The purpose of this study is to explore the general trends and the correlations of parent-child conflicts, copings, and psychological well-being of single mothers and their children, and to analyze the variables explaining relationships between single mothers and their children. The subjects were 196 dyads of single mothers and their children who reside in Gwangju city and Jeonnam area. The data were analyzed with frequency, t-Test, Pearsons' r, and multiple regression by SPSS. The major findings are as follows: 1. Scores of single mothers and their children had conflicts and emotion-focused copings lower than median. Another scores of single mothers and their children had significantly higher problem solving focused copings and emotion-focused copings than their children except life satisfaction; 2. Conflicts, copings, life satisfaction, and depression of a single mother were positively related to those of children; 3. Life satisfaction of single mothers depends on the reason for spouse-loss, their own education background, and problem solving-focused copings. Also, that of children depends on problem solving-focused copings, mother-child conflicts, and the mothers' education. Depression of single mothers is dependent upon mother-child conflicts, emotion-focused copings, and mothers' education. Also, that of children is upon mother-child conflicts, emotion-focused copings, mothers' education, and problem solving-focused copings.
This research focused on the examination of a "Goodness of Fit" model with reference to the interaction effects of temperament and context. Two hundred forty 5th graders from urban and rural areas were administered the EAS (Emotionality, Activity, Sociability) and the Perceived Competence scales. The degree of satisfaction of mothers with their children's temperament was assessed for the context measure. Results of hierarchical multiple regression analyses showed that the interaction of children's emotion and mothers' satisfaction with children's emotion explained perceived social competence and general self-worth. This result supported the goodness of fit model. However, interaction effects were not found in children's perception of cognitive and physical competence. Also, children's activity and sociability showed strong main effects on perceived competence. It implies that activity and sociability should be applied to the personological model. The implication of the findings for following studies of goodness of fit model were discussed.
This study was to examine the effects of young child's temperament, emotion regulation and teacher-child relationships on young children's prosocial behavior. The subjects of this study were 374 3- 5-year old children and their teachers. The collected data were analyzed by t-test, correlations and pathway analysis. The results were as follows: First, girls' prosocial behavior was found to be higher than boys'. Second, boys' and girls' temperament were found to affect young children's prosocial behavior directly and indirectly through teacher-child relationship and emotion regulation. Third, teacher-child relationships was found to affect boys' prosocial behavior directly and to mediate between boys' temperament and emotion regulation and prosocial behavior. Additionally emotion regulation was found to be the most important variable predicting boys' and girls' prosocial behavior and to mediate between temperament and teacher-child relationship and prosocial behavior.
This study examined the effects of perfectionism and cognitive-emotion regulation strategies on the test anxiety. The participants in this study were 423(227 boys, 196 girls) 6th graders recruited from four elementary schools in Seoul, Korea. The participants completed the Test Anxiety Inventory-Korea(Kim, 1991), the Child and Adolescent Perfectionism Scale(CAPS; Flett at al, 2000), and the Cognitive-Emotion Regulation Questionnaire(CERQ; Garnefski, 2001). The results of this study were as follows. First, self-oriented perfectionism and socially prescribed perfectionism were both positively associated with test anxiety. Additionally, the children who used more adaptive cognitive-emotion regulation strategies reported lower test anxiety, whereas the children who used more maladaptive cognitive-emotion regulation strategies reported higher test anxiety. Secondly, there was an interactional effect between self-oriented perfectionism and maladaptive cognitive-emotion regulation strategies on test anxiety. Lastly, socially prescribed perfectionism and cognitive-emotion regulation strategies had a significant effect on children's test anxiety. However, there were no interactional effects observed between socially prescribed perfectionism and cognitive-emotion regulation strategies on test anxiety.

In a society undergoing rapid change, modern individuals are facing various stresses, and there's a noticeable increase in mental health treatments for children as well. For the psychological well-being of children, it's crucial to swiftly discern their emotional states. However, this proves challenging as young children often articulate their emotions using limited vocabulary. This paper aims to categorize children's psychological states into four emotions: depression, anxiety, loneliness, and aggression. We propose a method for constructing an emotion dictionary tailored for children based on assessments from child psychology experts.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore socio-demographic factors, personality factors, socio-psychological factors, and relationship factors related to happiness of young children's fathers. Method: Subjects of this study were fathers who had 3, 4 and 5 years old children attending childcare centers. Data were analyzed by SPSS 18.0 program. Results: First, father's subjective well-being was predicted by father's extraversion of personality, job satisfaction, satisfaction of economic status, marital intimacy, and relationship with child. Marital intimacy was the strongest predictor of father's subjective well-being. Second, father's global life satisfaction was associated with occupational status, family monthly income, father's extraversion of personality, satisfaction of economic status, marital intimacy, and relationship with child. Father's global life satisfaction was explained by satisfaction of economic status the most. Third, father's meaning of life was related to father's educational level, father's extraversion of personality, job satisfaction, satisfaction of economic status, marital intimacy, and relationship with child. Father's meaning of life was explained by relationship with child the most. Fourth, father's positive emotion was predicted by father's extraversion of personality, job satisfaction, satisfaction of economic status, marital intimacy, and relationship with child. Extraversion of personality was the strongest predictor for father's positive emotion. Fifth, neuroticism of personality and marital intimacy were related to father's negative emotion, and neuroticism of personality was the strongest predictor for father's negative emotion. Conclusions: The findings of this research provide the fundamental source for increasing father's happiness which can be used to establish the educational programs, counseling, and policy on general public's happiness.
The present study aims to examine the relations between emotion regulation, aggression and school adjustment of boys and girls. A total of 321 5th-6th grades students were selected for the study. The data was collected via questionnaires. As results, there were some significant differences between boys and girls in overt aggression and peer adjustment. It was also found that emotion regulation, aggression and school adjustment were significantly correlated. And school adjustment was influenced by emotion regulation as well as overt and relational aggressions. Finally, only for boys, the relations between children's emotion regulation and school adjustment were mediated by their aggression.
This study tested the relationship between mothers' beliefs about their children's emotions and the children's emotional regulation, using the mothers' positive and negative emotional expressiveness as mediators. The participants comprised 511 mothers with children whose ages ranged from 3 to 5 years, from 11 early childhood educational institutions located in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. The survey data were analyzed using the SPSS 21.0, AMOS 21.0 and Mplus 6.12 programs. The main results were as follows. First, there were significant correlations among the three variables (i.e., mothers' beliefs about their children's emotions, the children's emotional regulation, and the mothers' emotional expressiveness). Second, both the mothers' beliefs about their children's emotions and the mothers' emotional expressiveness predicted in a significant manner the children's degree of emotional regulation. Third, the mediating effects of the mothers' emotional expressiveness were found to be significant. This indicated that the mothers' emotional expressiveness can be one means by which their children's emotional regulation can be increased, and this needs to be taken into account when designing educational and counseling programs.
This study examines child emotional intelligence in relation to mother's emotional expressiveness and reaction to child negative emotions. A sample of 352 children and mothers from 4 elementary schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi participated in the study. Child emotional intelligence and mother's reaction to child negative emotions were evaluated by child-report, and mother's emotional expressiveness was assessed by mother-report. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, two-way analysis of variances, Pearson's correlation and multiple regression analyses. The findings were as follows. First, mothers of boys showed more oversensitive-reaction to child negative emotions than mothers of girls. Mothers of 6th-graders showed more emotion-minimizin-greaction to child negative emotions than mothers of 5th-graders. Second, girls showed a higher level of overall emotional intelligence than boys. Girls showed a higher level of emotion expression and emotion regulation than boys. The 5th-graders showed higher level of emotion expression than 6th-graders; however, 6th graders showed a higher level of emotion perception than 5th-graders. Third, more emotion-coaching-reaction and less oversensitive-reaction by mothers predicted a better emotional intelligence of children. A mother's appropriate emotional socialization behaviors associated with child emotional intelligence were discussed.
To identify interest of primary school children and find the correlations between their interest and school achievement and emotion. Cluster-sampled 410 primary school children in Seoul were interviewed by the standardized questionnaire and data were analyzed statistically by computer system. 1) High SES has positive influence on school achievement. 2) children in higher SES tend to like more in-door-play or instrumental play. 30 More spending their times with in-door-play or instrumental play, children make better school achievement. 4) There is no significant relationships between the TV watching time and emotional stability. 5) More interest I social, natural science and arithmetic, children make higher achievement in all subjects above average. 6) Children's emotion has no association with school achievement, playing types and TV watching time but has positive association with SES.
