Welding distortion is more serious problem than any other problems caused by welding process, especially, in the heavy-industrial place. These welding distortions are caused by nonuniform heating and cooling of metal during and after welding operations. And these distortion quantities are must be known to worker in production line because distorions are important role in assembling part. Therefore an analytical model to explain and predict the welding distortion are needed. A numerical analysis of welding distortion which is inelastic behavior of weldment would require the three dimensional calculation. But computing time and memory would be very large, and the resulting cost might be unacceptable. Therefore we use a numerical technique for two dimensional analysis in the section normal to the weld direction of weldment under an assumption of quasi-stationary conditions. But the result of the calculation under two dimensional(plane strain) assumption was not satisfied as compared with experimental result. This paper proposed a technique for analysing the welding angular distortion by using a constraint boundary condition on the two dimensional finite element model. The simulation results revealed that the constraint boundary model could more reasonably describe the welding distortion than the plane strain model did.

The system such as railway bridge can be modelled as the restrained beam with intermediate supports. This kind of structures are subject to the moving load, which has a great effect on dynamic stresses and can cause sever motions, especially at high velocities. Therefore, to analyze the dynamic characteristics of the system due to the moving load is very important. In this paper, the governing equation of motion of a restrained beam subjected to the moving load is derived by using the Hamilton's principle. The orthogonal polynomial functions, which are trial functions and satisfying the geometric and dynamic boundary conditions, are obtained through simple procedure. The dynamic response of the system subjected to the moving loads is obtained by using the Galerkin's method and the numerical time integration technique. The numerical tests for various constraint, velocity and boundary conditions were preformed. Furthermore, the effects of mass of the moving load are studied in detail.

Given a number of training data, a traditional BPN is normally trained by minimizing the absolute difference between target outputs and approximate outputs. When BPN is used as a meta-model for inequality constraint function, approximate optimal solutions are sometimes actually infeasible in a case where they are active at the constraint boundary. The paper describes the development of the efficient BPN based meta-model that enhances the constraint feasibility of approximate optimal solution. The modified BPN based meta-model is obtained by including the decision condition between lower/upper bounds of a constraint and an approximate value. The proposed approach is verified through a simple mathematical function and a ten-bar planar truss problem.
Rectangular box type structures are used in many fields of civil, mechanical and marine engineering. Especially, Most ship structures are often in contact with inner or outer fluid, like ballast, fuel and stem tanks. Fatigue damages are sometimes observed in these tanks which seem to be caused by resonance with exciting force of engine and propeller. Vibration characteristics of these thin walled tanks in contact with fluid near engine and propeller are strongly affected by added mass of containing fluid. Therefore it is essentially important to estimate the added mass effect to predict vibration of the tanks. Many authors have studied vibration of rectangular tanks containing fluid. Few research on dynamic interaction among tank walls filled with fluid are reported in the vibration of rectangular tanks recently. In case of rectangular tanks, structural coupling between adjacent panels and effect of vibration modes of multiple panels on added mass of water have to be considered. In the previous report, a numerical analysis is performed for the coupling effect between panels of a tank on added mass of containing fluid, the effect of structural constraint between panels on each vibration mode for fluid region, and mode characteristics in accordance with changing breadth of the plates by using finite element method for plates and boundary element method for fluid region. In this paper, the coupling effect between panels of a tank on added mass of containing fluid, the effect of structural constraint between panels on each vibration mode for fluid region, and mode characteristics in accordance with changing length, thickness, and boundary condition of the plates are investigated numerically and discussed.
This paper investigate the optimum thickness distribution of plate structure with different essential boundary conditions in the fundamental natural frequency maximization problem. In this study, the fundamental natural frequency is considered as the objective function to be maximized and the initial volume of structures is used as the constraint function. The computer-aided geometric design (CAGD) such as Coon's patch representation is used to represent the thickness distribution of plates. A reliable degenerated shell finite element is adopted calculate the accurate fundamental natural frequency of the plates. Robust optimization algorithms implemented in the optimizer DoT are adopted to search optimum thickness values during the optimization iteration. Finally, the optimum thickness distribution with respect to different boundary condition

This study is object to structural analysis of high pressure injection nozzle. The finite element model was developed to compute the stress, strain for high pressure injection nozzle. For structural analysis using result from FEM code. This structural analysis results, many variables such as internal pressure, boundary condition, constraint condition and load condition are considered.
In this study, we presented a novel method to calculate unknown voltages on the floating electrodes introduced in a unit pixel of TFT-LCDs using three-dimensional molecular director simulation. For the simulation of the potential distribution profiles generated under the influence of the floating electrodes, we used the floating boundary condition on the surface enclosing the floating electrodes. The constraint for the floating boundary condition was derived from the charge neutrality condition about the floating electrodes disconnected from voltage sources. For the pixel with the floating electrodes patterned between the pixel and the data electrodes, we simulated the molecular director and the potential distribution in three-dimension, and then observed the location of the disclination lines around the edge of the pixel electrode. As a result, it was revealed that the floating electrodes significantly affect the electro-optical characteristics such as the location of the disclination line.

Mechanical designers often make mistakes that result in unwanted over-constraints, causing difficulty in assembly operations and residual stress due to interference among parts. This study is concerned with detection and elimination of over-constraints. Screw theory is a general method that is used for constraint analysis of an assembly and motion analysis of a mechanism. Mechanical assemblies with plane-plane, pin-hole, and pin-slot constraint pairs are analyzed using screw theory to illustrate its utility. As a real-world problem, a ball valve design is analyzed using the same method, and several unwanted over-constraints are detected. Elimination measures are proposed. Nominal dimensions of some parts are adjusted, and dimensions and tolerances of the pins and holes are modified using the virtual condition boundary concept. The revised design is free of over-constraints. General procedure for applying screw theory to constraint analysis is established and demonstrated; it will contribute to improving quality of assembly designs.

Robust optimization algorithms provided in the optimizer DOT are adopted to search the optimum thickness values during the optimization iteration. Finally, the square plate is used to find out the optimum thickness distribution of plates according to different essential boundary condition.

The solution of shape design problems based on variational analysis has been approached by using the domain adaptive method. The objective of the structural shape design is to minimize the weight within a bound on local stress measure, or to minimize the maximum local stress measure within a bound on the weight. A derived optimality condition in both design problems requires that the unit mutual energy has constant value along the design boundary. However, the condition for constant stress on the design boundary was used in computation since the computed mutual energy oscillates severely on the boundary. A two step iteration scheme using domain adaptation was presented as a computational method to slove the example designs of elastic structures. It was also shown that remeshing by grid adaptation was effective to reduce oscillatory behavior on the design boundary.
