Background: The current lack of the number of nurses and high nurse turnover rate leads to major problems for the health-care system in terms of cost, patient care ability, and quality of care. Theoretically, burnout may help link emotional labor with turnover intention. The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effect of burnout in the association between emotional labor and turnover intention in Korean clinical nurses. Methods: Using data collected from a sample of 606 nurses from six Korean hospitals, we conducted a multiple regression analysis to determine the relationships among clinical nurses' emotional labor, burnout, and turnover intention, looking at burnout as a mediator. Results: The results fully and partially support the mediating role of burnout in the relationship between the subfactors of emotional labor and turnover intention. In particular, burnout partially mediated the relationship between emotional disharmony and hurt, organizational surveillance and monitoring, and lack of a supportive and protective system in the organization. In addition, we found that burnout has a significant full mediation effect on the relationship between overload and conflicts in customer service and turnover intention. Although the mediating effect of burnout was significantly associated with the demands and regulation of emotions, no significant effects on turnover intention were found. Conclusion: To reduce nurses' turnover, we recommend developing strategies that target both burnout and emotional labor, given that burnout fully and partially mediated the effects of emotional labor on turnover intention, and emotional labor was directly associated with turnover intention.
This study was conducted to identify the impact of burnout on job satisfaction of school health teachers (school nurses) and the mediating effects of self-leadership on the relationship between burnout and job satisfaction. Methods: The research is a cross-sectional survey. The participants were 131 school health teachers (school nurses) in Korea. Data was collected using a self-reporting questionnaire covering demographic characteristics, self-leadership, burnout, and job satisfaction. The collected data was analyzed through t-test, ANOVA, correlation, and multiple regression using SPSS/WIN (ver. 23). Results: Significant positive correlations were found between self-leadership and job satisfaction (r=.384, p<.001). Significant negative correlations were found between burnout and job satisfaction (r=-.748, p<.001) and between burnout and self-leadership (r=-.308, p<.001). The factors that enhance job satisfaction were found to be lower burnout and higher self-leadership. The results of the 3-step regression are as follows: First, burnout had a significant negative effect on self-leadership. Second, burnout had a significant negative effect on job satisfaction. Third, self-leadership had a significant positive effect on job satisfaction and had a mediating effect on the relationship between burnout and job satisfaction (Zab=3.271, p<.001). Conclusion: Based on these results, self-leadership is needed in order to raise job satisfaction and reduce burnout.
Background: The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating effect of resilience and social support to analyze that call center consultants' emotional labor impacts on the burnout. Methods: A survey questionnaire was conducted to people who work at call center in Gwangju and Deagu. The data from 444 were analyzed. Results: The result from the hierarchical multiple regression is as follows. First, deep acting decreased burnout, but surface acting of emotional labor increased burnout. Also, frequency of emotion display, variety of emotion required to be expressed and attentiveness to required display rules increased burnout. Second, Resilience had moderating effect between deep acting and burnout. Third, the moderate effect of interaction of social support from leader with surface action was found at burnout. Also, moderating effect of social support from leader were shown in frequency of emotion display with burnout and attentiveness to required display rules with burnout. Fourth, social support from colleague did not have buffering effect on emotional labor and burnout. Conclusions: It is expected that the moderator variables identified in this study can be used for prevention and treatment of burnout caused by emotional labor.

Purpose: This study was done to identify the mediating effect of emotional dissonance in the relationship between emotional labor and burnout among clinical nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was used. The participants were 257 nurses working at three general hospitals located in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. Data were collected by convenience sampling using self-report questionnaires that consisted of general characteristics, and measures of emotional labor, emotional dissonance and burnout. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, correlation, and multiple regression. Results: The findings of the multiple regression were as follows. First, surface acting of emotional labor showed significant positive effects on emotional dissonance and burnout. Second, when surface acting and emotional dissonance were entered into the regression model at the same time, surface acting showed an insignificant effect on burnout, however, emotional dissonance showed a significant effect. Finally, emotional dissonance had a mediating effect only between surface acting of emotional labor and burnout, not between deep acting and burnout. Conclusion: Results of the study suggest that as a way to reduce burnout, nursing administrators should develop educational programs for nurses to perform deep acting of emotional labor instead of surface acting at the moment of truth.

Purpose: The purposes of this study was to identify the effects of nursing practice environment, compassion fatigue and compassion satisfaction on burnout in clinical nurses. Methods: Participants selected for the final analysis were 208 nurses working in 2 general hospitals in Busan and Masan. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation and Hierarchial Multiple Regression with SPSS/WIN 18.0. Results: Compassion fatigue had a significant positive effect on burnout, while Compassion satisfaction had a negative effect on burnout, but Nursing practice environment had no effect on burnout. The explained variance for burnout was 61% and compassion satisfaction was the most significant factor in burnout of nurses. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that to reduce burnout in clinical nurses it is necessary to develop programs to increase nurses' compassion satisfaction and decrease compassion fatigue.
Purpose. The purposed of this study was done to identify correlates and variables predicting burnout among hospital nurses. Methods. The participants were 172 nurses working in hospital nurses in D and P, K cities. Data on compassion fatigue and burnout were collected via questionnaire between May 2011 and July 2011. Data analysis was done with PASW 18.0 program and included one-way ANOVA, independent t-test, Pearson correlation, and stepwise multiple regression. Result. Compassion fatigue of participants in this study were shown to have high levels (compassion fatigue: M=58.34/115, SD=12.85). Burnout of participants in this study were shown to have poor levels (burnout: M=30.73/85, SD=6.84). The burnout by nurses was positively to compassion fatigue(r=.482, p<.000). The variables predicting burnout were compassion fatigue, total period of nursing job, nursing part and job period of present part. These factors accounted for 31%((F=20.39, p<.000) of the variance of burnout in hospital nurses. Conclusion. The results of this study indicate that it is necessary to reduce compassion fatigue and to encourage compassion satisfaction among hospital nurses.
Purpose - This study has its purpose to identify the correlation between factors and moderating variables that can reduce job burnout by setting a positive relationship with a leader and ethicality of the leader as factors reducing job burnout and helping behavior as a moderating variable. Research design, data, and methodology - The research design would make theoretical perceived ethical leadership and LMX toward helping assistance, and job burnout using by structural equation method. Results - As a result, both positive behaviors and recognition on ethical leadership of a leader have been confirmed to influence on mitigation of job burnout. Especially, among the two factors, ethicality has shown to be more efficient to alleviate exhaust compared with positive behavior of a leader. Conclusions - Theoretical perceived ethical leadership and LMX toward a leader, helping assistance, and job burnout are statistically significant, however, the helping behavior of members is the factor increasing a job burnout. These results can be interpreted as the difficulties of relation setting with the members for the leader, and although loyalty and responsibility toward right leader may induce helping behavior, and positive behavior for organization can impact on the job burnout. It can be concluded that the ethicality of a leader is an essential factor for the development of organization.
Purpose: This descriptive study was conducted to identify burnout and factors influencing burnout in clinical nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was conducted by administering a structured questionnaire to 195 nurses working at hospitals, from August to September 2017. This study used scales to measure burnout (20 items), job satisfaction (16 items), and perfectionism (40 items). Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0, descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results: Burnout of participants was correlated with job satisfaction and perfectionism. Factors identified to have influence on burnout were job satisfaction (${\beta}=-.35$, p<.001), perfectionism-fail avoidance (${\beta}=.26$, p=.001), perceived health status (${\beta}=-.26$, p<.001), and intention of department relocation (${\beta}=-.23$, p<.001). The regression model explained approximately 48% of nurses' burnout. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to improve job satisfaction and organizational support to decrease dysfunctional perfectionism that could cause burnout in nurses. It is also necessary to establish a psychological support program in hospitals.
