Implementation of High Reliable Fault-Tolerant Digital Filter Using Self-Checking Pulse-Train Residue Arithmetic Circuits (자기검사 Pulse별 잉여수연산회로를 이용한 고신뢰화 Fault Tolerant 디지털필터의 구성에 관한 연구)

  • The residue number system offers the possibility of high-speed operation and error detection/correction because of the separability of arithmetic operations on each digit. A compact residue arithmetic module named the self-checking pulse-train residue arithmetic circuit is effectively employed as the basic module, and an efficient error detection/correction algorithm in which error detection is performed in each basic module and error correction is performed based on the parallelism of residue arithmetic is also employed. In this case, the error correcting circuit is imposed in series to non-redundant system. This design method has an advantage of compact hardware. Following the proposed method, a 2nd-order recursive fault-tolerant digital filter is practically implemented, and its fault-tolerant ability is proved by noise injection testing.

  • Deep comprehension of basic mathematical notions and concepts is a basic condition of a successful teaching. Some elements of algebraic thinking belong to the elementary school mathematics. The question "What stays the same and what changes?" link arithmetic problems with algebraic conception of variable. We have studied beliefs and comprehensions of future elementary school mathematics teachers on early algebra. Pre-service teachers from three academic pedagogical colleges deal with mathematical problems from the pre-algebra point of view, with the emphasis on changes and invariants. The idea is that the intensive use of non-formal algebra may help learners to construct a better understanding of fundamental ideas of arithmetic on the strong basis of algebraic thinking. In this article the study concerning arithmetic series is described. Considerable number of pre-service teachers moved from formulas to deep comprehension of the subject. Additionally, there are indications of ability to apply the conception of change and invariance in other mathematical and didactical contexts.

The Effects of Small-Group Mathematical Word Problem Activity with Concrete Materials on 5 Years Old Children's Mathematical Abilities and Attitudes (구체물을 이용한 소집단 문장제 수학활동이 유아의 수학 능력과 태도에 미치는 영향)

  • Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of small-group arithmetic word problem activities with concrete materials on 5 year old children's mathematical ability and attitude. Methods: A total of 34 five-year-old children (control group 16 children, experimental group18 children) attending two kindergartens in P city participated in this study. Fifteen small-group arithmetic word problem activities with concrete materials were conducted in the classroom of the experimental group twice a week for eight weeks. Before and after the activities, all the participants individually took a basic arithmetic test, mathematical word problem solving test, and mathematical attitudes test. Results: First, we observed that the children in the experimental group achieved significantly higher scores on the mathematical ability tests, including the basic arithmetic test and mathematical word problems solving test when compared to the children in the control group. Second, we also found that children in the experimental group showed higher improvement in the mathematical attitudes test than their counterparts. Conclusion/Implications: The results of this study suggest that small-group arithmetic word problem activities with concrete materials are effective in improving children's mathematical ability and attitudes.

  • This paper propose the method of constructing the improved hardware arithmetic operation unit over galois fields. The proposed the hardware arithmetic operation unit have advantage which is more regularity and extensibility compare with earlier method. Also it is able to apply to any multimedia hardware which is the basic arithmetic operation unit. For the future we will research the processor which is the processing arithmetic and logical operation.

  • In 1613 the official-scholar LI Zhi-zao (李之藻) of the Ming Dynasty, in collaboration with the Italian Jesuit Matteo RICCI (利瑪竇), compiled the treatise Tongwen Suanzhi (同文算指). This is the first book which transmitted into China in a systematic and comprehensive way the art of written calculation that had been in common practice in Europe since the sixteenth century. This paper tries to see what pedagogical lessons can be gleaned from the book, in particular on the basic operations in arithmetic and related applications in various types of problems which form the content of modern day mathematics in elementary school education.

  • This paper propose the method of constructing the highly efficiency adder and multiplier systems over finite fields. The addition arithmetic operation over finite field is simple comparatively because that addition arithmetic operation is analyzed by each digit modP summation independently. But in case of multiplication arithmetic operation, we generate maximum k=2m-2 degree of ${\alpha}^k$ terms, therefore we decrease k into m-1 degree using irreducible primitive polynomial. We propose two method of control signal generation for the purpose of performing above decrease process. One method is the combinational logic expression and the other method is universal signal generation. The proposed method of constructing the highly adder/multiplier systems is as following. First of all, we obtain algorithms for addition and multiplication arithmetic operation based on the mathematical properties over finite fields, next we construct basic cell of A-cell and M-cell using T-gate and modP cyclic gate. Finally we construct adder module and multiplier module over finite fields after synthesizing ${\alpha}^k$ generation module and control signal CSt generation module with A-cell and M-cell. Next, we constructing the arithmetic operation unit over finite fields. Then, we propose the future research and prospects.

Effects of Game-Based-Digital Textbook on the Basic Arithmetic Abilities and the Task Attention of Students with Mental Retardation (게임기반 디지털 교과서 활용이 정신지체 학생의 기초연산 수행능력 및 과제집중에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of game-based-digital textbook on the basic arithmetic abilities and the task attention of students with mental retardation. To do this, 38 students with mental retardation participated and were assigned to the three groups. The first group only used the traditional text book, the second group only used the game-based-digital textbook, and the third group used both the traditional textbook and the game-based-digital textbook. The third group using both the traditional textbook and the game-based-digital textbook revealed more higher improvement than the other two groups in the basic arithmetic and the task attention.

  • This paper presents a method of constructing the highly efficiency arithmetic operation unit systems(AOUS) based on fields. The proposed AOUS is more regularity and extensibility than previous methods. Also, the proposed AOUS be able to apply basic multimedia hardware. The future research is demanded to more compact and advanced arithmetic operation algorithm.

  • This paper presents a method of constructing an Arithmetic Operation Unit Systems (A.O.U.S.) over Galois Field GF(2**m) for the purpose of the four arithmetical operation(addition, subtraction, multiplication and division between two elements in GF(2**mm). The proposed A.O.U.S. is constructed by following procedure. First of all, we obtained each four arithmetical operation algorithms for performing the four arithmetical operations using by mathematical properties over GF(2**m). Next, for the purpose of realizing the four arithmetical unit module (adder module, subtracter module, multiplier module and divider module), we constructed basic cells using the four arithmetical operation algorithms. Then, we realized the four Arithmetical Operation Unit Modules(A.O.U.M.) using basic cells and we constructd distributor modules for the purpose of merging A.O.U.M. with distributor modules. Finally, we constructed the A.O.U.S. over GF(2**m) by synthesizing A.O.U.M. with distributor modules. We prospect that we are able to construct an Arithmetic & Logical Operation Unit Systems (A.L.O.U.S.) if we will merge the proposed A.O.U.S. in this paper with Logical Operation Unit Systems (L.O.U.S.).

An Analysis of the Effects of Zero on Children's Arithmetic Performances (영(0)이 초등학생들의 계산 수행에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • Many articles have reported that zero causes children's arithmetic errors. This article was designed to measure the effect of zero on children's arithmetic performances. For this, 222 of 3,4,5,6 graders in elementary school were tested with pencil and paper. The test were categorized into four parts: basic number fact, column subtraction, column multiplication, and column division. These data showed that the negative effect of zero on children's arithmetic was limited to several areas, concretely, multiplication facts with zero, column subtraction with numbers which have two successive zeros, column multiplication with numbers which have zero in a middle position, long division with zeros. But there was no evidence that students could self-control these negative effects of zero as grade went up. It implies that we should keep attention to children's arithmetic performance with zero in some special areas.
