  • The objective of this study was to suggest conducting a preliminary investigation into renaming the clinical laboratory science degree by comparing the names of this degree used in Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and the United States. In Korea, students who graduate from clinical laboratory science departments at universities are awarded a Bachelor of Science in Health Science, a Bachelor of Science, or a Bachelor of Clinical Laboratory Science, while graduates of clinical laboratory science departments at colleges receive an Associate Degree in Health Science or an Associate Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science. The Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science and the Associate of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science are internationally accepted designations. They reflect the academic identity and professionalism of the occupation. The Bachelor of Science in Health Science and the Associate Degree in Health Science, being used by the Department of Clinical Laboratory Science in Korean schools, can be renamed to the Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science and the Associate of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, uniform names, respectively, through the revision of the school regulations.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the profile of graduates from accelerated second-degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs and to analyze the relative efficiency of nursing colleges using data envelopment analysis. Methods: An online survey link was emailed to the deans of nursing colleges, who were then asked to send the link to graduates of the respective colleges. The survey questionnaire included demographics, reasons for applying to the accelerated second-degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, employment after graduation, and nursing career satisfaction. Results: Sixty-two graduates of the accelerated second-degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing program responded to the survey. The mean age at admission was 24.28 (± 3.01) years. Reasons for applying to the accelerated second-degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing program were primarily increasing job security and using it as a stepping stone to another career. Nursing career job satisfaction was 4.81 (± 1.07) and more than 82% recommended this program. The data envelopment analysis found the average efficiency score to be 0.84 (± 0.20) and 4 nursing colleges to be relatively efficient. Conclusion: The accelerated second-degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing program can be considered to be an effective means to produce quality nurses with non-nursing bachelor degrees in a short time; however, outcomes of this program need to be systematically monitored to maintain quality level. Through this, competent nurses with knowledge of adjacent studies will be added to the nursing workforce.

Method: The subjects were 429 students completing the nursing courses (172 bachelor course students, and 257 associate course students). The study design was cross sectional. Results: Bachelor students showed a significant higher score in clinical competence than associate students. There were significant influencing factors on clinical competence including critical thinking disposition, professional conduct, communication skill, theoretical education satisfaction, and practice education satisfaction. The strongest factor influencing clinical competence was critical thinking disposition. All the factors mentioned above explained 49% of clinical competence in associate courses, and 40.0% in bachelor courses excluding the factor of practice education satisfaction. The level of theoretical and practice education satisfaction of bachelor courses was significantly lower than associate. Conclusion: It is recommended that associate course nursing students should be encouraged in critical thinking disposition, professional conduct, and communication skill. Bachelor course nursing students should be encouraged in practical education including practical environments, instruction methods, and content for improving clinical competence.

  • The aim of the study is to model demand for full-time Bachelor's Degree Programs in Hospitality and Catering, taking into account the influence of the main determinants in the COVID-19 pandemic. The research used methods of algorithms, correlation and regression analysis, ANOVA, graphical method, deduction and induction, abstraction, etc. It was found that the demand for full-time Bachelor's Degree Programs in Hospitality and Catering is price elastic. It has been argued that it is useful to consider both price and non-price determinants when modelling demand for full-time Bachelor's Degree Programs in Hospitality and Catering. It is proved that the main determinants of demand for full-time Bachelor's Degree Programs in Hospitality and Catering are full-time tuition fee, maximum government order, license volume and Consolidated Ranking of a higher education institution (HEI). In this case, the applicant decides to enrol in a full-time Bachelor's Degree Program in Hospitality and Catering, guided by the optimal ratio of tuition fee and the prestige of the HEI.

  • Purpose: The study aims to provide basic data for understanding the department of paramedicines' bachelor's degree courses to enable curriculum development and reorganization. Methods: The 2023 academic curricula for all eleven universities with active departments of paramedicine offering bachelor's degrees were investigated from April 25 to May 10, 2023. Results: The average courseload was 22.0 units. There were 7.73 major subjects, with 19.45 units on average. The culture subject was available in 7 colleges and was 2.55 units on the average 1.18 subject. Grouping the major subjects showed that 15.3% of subjects were related to advanced paramedicine (the most common course), followed by 11.8% related to research methodology and seminar, and 10.8% related to radiology and simulations. Related subjects in statistics, disaster, and forensic science were also offered. Conclusion: This study found that the curricula of the departments of paramedicine differed from that of the general bachelor's degree. Going forward, university leaders should organize the paramedicine curriculum considering the environmental changes in emergency medicine and the scalability of EMT-Paramedic jobs.

  • Lately, national hygiene & medical environment and its demand aspect have been rapidly changing, and market opening of hygiene and medical sector is accelerating. Due to the change in labor resulting from the wide range of change in industrial structure and the steady decrease in university applicants, most of colleges and universities have been strongly urged to establish hygiene medical manpower training courses or relative courses, which leaves the medical technician training courses in 4 year universities on the robust increase. Consequently, the medical technicians, graduating from 3 year colleges without bachelor's degree due to shortage of 20 credits for acquisition of degree, have had to compete with the graduates from 4 year universities and the bachelor's degree has been in continuous demand for the medical technicians of 3 year college. In the research for recognition of Credit Bank System prevalent across the colleges, enabling the systematic acquisition of bachelor's degree, 60.9% among the respondents are aware of Credit Bank System, and 46.9% are aware that Advanced Major Course is induced in the near future. Hence, there shall be active promotions of various programs allowing acquisition of bachelor's degree in the colleges. The social change in recognition of colleges by inducement of the two programs may authorize the college to have the scholastic attainments equivalent to the 4 year university, and the political initiative shall be deliberated across over the government and the academic world.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the experiences of nursing college students who are now pursuing a bachelor degree of nursing at a three year nursing school. Method: The study employs a Qualitative research method. For this study 19 nursing students of a reformed nursing college were interviewed. All of them are now taking the fourth-year classes. Results: The experiences of the interviewees are categorized into the following five themes: 1) Education reform news that could make the bachelor degree happen; 2) Relaxed but uncomfortably long winter break; 3) Looking forward to the fourth year of nursing education; 4) Facing the fourth year and possible double classes; and 5) Unregrettable choice. The study found that the students are putting their best effort forward for the fourth-year classes in a hope that the bachelor degree could rebuild their self-esteem and self-identity as a full-member of the nursing profession. They also hope that the existing societal prejudice and differential treatments toward them will disappear in future nursing practices. Conclusion: This study concludes with some practical implications for nursing education for reformed nursing schools.
